"We were meeting up with out of town family, but we never got to talk because we had to shout even to the person next to us. Though the food was excellent, I'd probably pass next time because it was just too hard to be social with more than one person. I guess restaurants with only hard surfaces: concrete, brick, and no carpet or tablecloths are the thing now because it makes the place feel bustling, but it is pretty annoying after 10 minutes"

"I made a dinner reservation for a group of 4 for on Monday. We met at the bar first and recommend the Old Fashioned for all the bourbon drinkers out there. The special that evening was a roasted duck breast which was exceptionally tender and delicious. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu and was attentive without being obtrusive. This was my second visit to District Kitchen and there will definitely be a third."

"The menu was different from the one posted at the Open Table website. The waiter seemed to be unfamiliar with some of the menu items. The assistance of another waitress was helpful."

"District Kitchen provides a wonderful set of food and drink options. All items ordered were wonderful and unique. Cheese and pickled veggie selections were impressive. Wine choices were good by the glass or bottle. Parking can be challenging - but if you live in DC this does not need to be stated."

"DK is part of the farm-to-table movement (like Founding Farmers) but doesn't take itself too seriously about it. They have well-crafted cocktails and decent wine by the glass. The menu changes constantly with fresh and innovative dishes. The restaurant is extremely loud, so don't plan a romantic date here. The service is attentive and well-informed."

"Service as slow. four people at the table ordered salads, two wanted them with their entre the other two wanted them before the entre. Because of the volume of the noise no one at the table knew what the other ordered. The two that wanted the salads with the entre got them first. Other two had to ask for their salads, which appeared to delay the entres even longer.
It was difficult to get the waitress to ensure the needs of the table were being addressed. It took a long time to get the bill and even longer to have the waitress take payment."

"Love the fresh and organic ingredients. Real American preparations. Good food you can feel good about. Toad in a hole - wonderful appetizer. Roast chicken, which can be boring was anything but, it was moist and very flavorful. Service - hmm, waitress was working hard but perhaps they need more wait staff. Service was a bit slow and inattentive."

"Our service was pretty bad. Took them 30 mins just to bring out bread, for which they actually charge $4, and an additional 15 minutes (after we asked gently) for them to bring us our wine. Then another 30 mins for the entre.
Also, it would be nice, when I am spending $30 on an entree (over 100 on the whole check for 2 people), that my waiter be wearing something significantly nicer than ratty jeans and a wrinkled t-shirt. Take some pride in your presentation!
I will say the food was delicious, and the portions were ample. But in such a foodie city as DC, that's nothing special. When they fix their service I'll gladly bring them more of my business. Until then, they're just a woodley park tourist-trap."

"While I use Open Table a great deal, I rarely write a review. This is an exception because this restaurant really deserves kudos. It is located on a block usually associated with tourist restaurants. But this should become a local staple and is worth jockying for a parking space, which isn't easy. The artisan cheeses were wonderful. I had two small dishes -- the lamb and veal meatballs and the wild boar sausage -- both mouthwatering. My wife had a tasty and moist halibut. We practically licked the plates. I also greatly appreciate the fact that they could have squeezed in a few more tables, but instead have left enough room that one can have a private conversation. And, finally, the service was very attentive and professional. Bravo."

"We were a large party of ten and they reserved a table right by the door, seats which in any other restaurant are kept for walk ins. There was a larger area in back which couldhave been ours but was broken up into fours and twos. Poor mgmt The service was slow - more than 20 minutes before any wine came. We really felt that since the gratuity was guaranteed we could be and were ignored. The food was a mixed bag - ok salads, varied reviews on the apps, ok mains and some very unsuccesful sides. After another 20 minute wait to take dessert orders, we were all just ready to go so only one guest had dessert. Most of us were New Yorkers and felt that District Kitchen was provincial in most of the worst ways. There are much better places in"

"The menu is unique and fresh- it is nice to find variation in the menu throughout the year. We loved the wine list and the cocktails. The atmosphere is relaxed and beautiful-- the outdoor patio is wonderful in the spring. The GM/owner is great, he is very engaged in all aspects of the restaurant. Excellent service and quality of food. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been!"

"Food was terrific. Service was attentive, knowledgeable and personable. We had small plates and salads only. Spinach with figs and al almonds was amazing as was shirred egg on mushroom and potato hash."

"Dinner was great. Every dish we got was really exceptional. I'd especially recommend the scallops, the squid ink pasta, and the risotto. The menu had a great selection, and the sizeable small plates section allowed our group to try a number of the items on the menu. I will definitely be back!"

"Consistently good food, and marvelous service. We had the sea scallops and the Amish chicken this time (recommend both), and look forward to returning to try more of the small plates. Great menu -- diverse, interesting, well executed."

"Booked dinner for an informal business meeting. Guest was held up so we sat at the bar for happy hour and then just stayed for an assortment of wonderful little plates. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The food was not your typical bar fare, and the wine selections were very good. The tab ended a little high, but that's what happens when you start at the bar and all those little treat options get more and more appealing."

"We had reservations at 7:30 on Saturday, March 2. The food and service were great, but it turned out that there was no heat and the restaurant was ridiculously cold while we were there. The restaurant called us that afternoon to confirm the reservation, and if the problem was apparent by then, we should have been told of the problem when we arrived and given the choice to stay or not. At the very least, we should have been told there was no heat when we arrived."

"Upon seating it took over 12-minutes for someone to 'touch' our table, not even our water glasses were filled until after the noted time period. That said, once the server arrived his attentiveness was excellent; and our overall meal was most enjoyable."

"The food was wonderful and the service was great. Nice menu too with interesting combinations and very fresh ingredients. The ambience however was awful. It was freezing in the restaurant and we asked at least 3 times if it was possible to turn the heat up and were told that it had been, not the case. We ate as fast as we could and left. Still on ambience, there was no music. It just felt weird."

"Absolutely fabulous menu -- and the dishes served tasted as good than they sounded. Lots of options (small plates and full-size entrees) - the day's special Tomato Curry Soup was amazing, and even loved by those at our table who don't like tomato soup! Our table tried every one of their specialty cocktails, and each one was spectacular! Doesn't hurt any to be only steps away from the Woodley Park Metro station - we will be back soon!"

"If you're visiting in the winter, be prepared for the restaurant to be cold. The Mexican meatballs and desserts were good, though the pork chop was mediocre. It was also disappointing that the online menu was not the menu we were offered onsite. Our group had all chosen dishes to order that were no longer on the menu. I had expected more variety to choose from for the entrees. Overall it was ok, but I probably would have chosen somewhere else to visit for Restaurant Week."

"We had a great dinner with out of town family - we all got different dishes and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. In a perfect world, I wish it was a tad less expensive, but it's typical DC prices and at least what you get seems really worth it.
Cocktails were very good, but took awhile to come out.
I like the ambiance a lot. They gave us a great table right in the window. Only complaint is that it was a tad chilly where we sat...not sure if they can do anything about that, maybe the window is just drafty."

"It’s impossible to make skirt steak jerky look pretty. The same could have been said of me in fifth grade, but the jerky had the advantage of Malbec softening its rough edges, or at least our perception of them. After a standard march of appetizers came a parade of entrees, but no matter what anyone ordered–mussels, risotto, fish collarbone–someone else’s plate always look better. No matter; whatever else our mothers might say of us, we were at least good at sharing. This held true through dessert, when we politely parceled out spoonfuls of cinnamon ice cream, slices of roasted apples, and soft chunks of oatmeal cookie."

"The entrees and opening courses were exceptional. Not being a foodie, I thought the menu was very interesting and adventurous for DC. I definitely commend the chef for taking a risk, and getting away from standard fare for Washington. I went with the whole fish special, which was amazing. My date had the mushroom "French Dip" sandwich, which she loved. Next time, we'll stay for dessert. The service was both attentive and informative. All around great!"
