Family-owned, Spanish restaurant, and gem of the UES, El Porron prides itself with serving classic and signature tapas in a casual elegant setting. An endless menu of perfect portions leaves your palate begging for more. With a wine list equally as impressive and just as much a part of the program as the cuisine, Mr. G and his son Diego Bermeo front of the house Manager/Wine Director will make you feel like you have slipped away to San Sebastian from the first bite to the last sip.
"We went for lunch last Saturday and ordered a number of specials recommended by staff. Everything was fresh, interesting and delicious. We really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back."

"My friends and I tried El Porron since a) it was in the neighborhood b) it was in between lunch and dinner (3pm) and tapas seemed like the right choice. Host and staff were helpful and polite. The decor was comfortable with nice details such as attractive, accommodating, wide bar. We chose to sit at the bar for happy hour specials (3 tapas plates for $18). We ordered 9 different plates in total. All food was beautifully prepared and tasty. Sangria, especially the red, was delicious. I would definitely go back and try one of the main entrees. Highly recommend and happy to have them in the neighborhood."

"A fine, fairly typical, tapas restaurant. The group I was with didn't try any of the large plates, so I can't comment on them. We shared about a dozen tapas. These ranged from the very good (the octopus was especially nice) to the somewhat weak (the quail was a little disappointing), but overall, they were pretty solid. Prices were about what one expects at tapas places. The wine list is reasonably priced and seemed well-chosen; we drank sangria, which, again, was pretty good, and reasonably priced."

"Both the small plates and the entrees are excellent. Many classic spanish tapas as well chef G's personal take on them. The wine list is almost entirely Spanish but very good if you ask for help and reasonably priced"

"Compared to other Spanish places I've tried, this one didn't quite measure up. The food for the most part was good, although I would have liked the gambas in chili and oil to be a bit more of the traditional style (it was more broth than oil). The service also improved as the night went on - I felt like it took the servers and host a bit of time to warm up to us but by the time we left, they were friendly. I'm sure we'll be back since it is so convenient for us, but not sure I would travel any great distance to go back. We just did tapas this time, so will give the paella a try next time."

"Every bite was exquisite, and the waitstaff was very helpful. I didn't say good for groups, because I was there at lunchtime and it was very quiet, so it's a bit hard to assess, but it seems like it would be. I look forward to my next visit - for dinner with four this time!"

"This is very convenient restaurant for those who want to have a meal of tapas. The quality and variety and the reasonable prices make it an enjoyable experience. the only complaint is that the wine list is very limited."

"Went to el porron for my 1 year anniversary with my girlfriend and was very pleased. The waitress was accommodating letting us try several wines before we decided on a bottle. She had good knowledge of the menu and her recommendations for food were on point. Garlic shrimp and steak empanadas were delicious. My lady had the seafood paiella and though it was excellent and I had theiramb special which was cooked to a nice mid rare and had good flavor. Volcano dessert also excellent. Definatly planning a return visit."

"They were great and very accommodating to us. We showed up about 15 minutes late and had our friend's 6 month old child with us and they were cool with it, providing us a high chair - though he just slept in his dad's lap the whole time. Waiter spouted off like 9 specials at once, very impressive. The food was excellent. Chicken croquettes, the salmon, and the scallops tapas were the big winners with me. You can't go wrong with any of it though. We will definitely be back."

"Beautiful simple Tapas - good for both vegetarian and non-vegetarians. The only drawback was that it was very noisy - you can hear every conversation in the restaurant, tables are small and very close, and there was a large group at a big table which made it even noisier. But it was still a really great meal, great wine selection too. And really fantastic service!"

"We were a party of four, and all had a wonderful evening at El Porron. Overall, the tapas were excellent, although a couple of us were wanting a bit more flavor. The entrees, especially the scallops were also very good. The wine pairing was also perfect. Jose, our waiter, could not have been more helpful -- he was there immediately when needed and provided very helpful suggestions."
