A cool celebration of the culture and cuisine of Mexico City, serving shareable plates and contemporary interpretations of regional Mexican favorites, the restaurant goes beyond classics to offer the full range of exciting and flavorful cuisine served in the Distrito Federal, as it is known by residents.
With over 100 varieties of tequila, our margarita bar offers an exciting array of fresh fruit margaritas and featuring classic cocktails with a twist. Try our Mezcal Mule!
"A wonderful meal – the menu is really exciting, with a variety of greatly balanced flavors. Everything we were severed was a pleasure to eat from the little bits of joy that were the mini tacos to the beautifully cooked entrées (tender fish and succulent lamb), and it was all served by friendly and attentive staff. We’ll definitely be back to this spot!"

"Everything about Distrito is fantastic. The management, led by Nils and Michael have created a perfect and attentive stmosphere. We had Ben as a waiter and he was excellent at catering to whatever we asked for. I look to the whole experience when dining out and Distrito never fails to exceed all expectations. Now, my favorite restaurant!!!!"

"My friends & I relaxed while indulging in some great food for Cinco de Mayo! Being vegetarian I was very happy with their selection of entrees that fit me and my carnivore friends. The stuffed poblano pepper I had was good & flavorful, very different since it was roasted not fried with breading like a typical chile relleno. Also had the seafood stew, scallops were done to perfection & melted in my mouth, the sauce had a wonderful smoky flavor that was good to the last spoonful. One friend had the giant prawns, and did not shut up about how good they were all meal long. Will definitely bring people here again who enjoy an exceptional meal in a great environment."

"We have eaten here before and loved it. I like the outdoor patio, as they are 'dog friendly'. The food is fantastic. Service was okay. Nice, but slow. There were only 3 tables on the patio dining."

"My companion and I found Distrito to be both exciting and innovative. The cuisine rather than the ordinary Mexican or Mexican influenced, had many lovely twists while keeping to the south of the border flavors. Besides the more pricey entrees , there was much to choose from in the small plate category and much of that we shared. The Margeritas were excellent though I thought them filled up with more ice than neccesary. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the patio and would most certainly return to try to sample more of the chefs offerings."

"Fun atmosphere. Staff not very engaged with us or the food. Great menu...overpriced. I'd go back for happy hour. Tamale, guacamole, tacos...flavor great. Shrimp salad bitter, probably due to the fact that tomatoes were not sweet enough to balance the flavors."

"Great bar & expert bartenders - even though they closed Old Town Whiskey (sob). Delicious tacos (the best handmade tortillas- anywhere!).All of the food we've had here has been beautifully prepared, and the flavors and textures leave you wanting more.Service very friendly & willing to make suggestions, but a tad slow at times.Love the ambiance and outdoor dining. Wish the outdoor fireplace on the back patio by the couches had been lit. We would've lingered there a while longer."

"My husband wanted to try this place since we had just been nearby the night before at the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts, and it looked lively and nice indoor/outdoor dining options. Food was miniscule for what we paid so quite the shock. We both ordered tacos, mine the grilled fish and his pulled pork. The lovely 3 ringed, attached plates each held 3 tiny corn or flour tortillas with the fillings which were tasty and artful, But.
The fish in each of my tacos was about a one inch chunk, my spouse at at least had a larger portion of shredded meat with colorful radish shreds. We had an order of chips before at separate charge but still, this was $12 each and no side salad or anything included. Nice waiter, nice sunny day, but."

"VERY over-priced for the SIZE of the plates. Beware: if you want to eat enough to actually feel like you have eaten you'll spend a bundle. The food is generally excellent, just take $$$$$$$ with you. The interior can be very noisy. Head for the patio if you want to hear each other talk. Some of the waiters can be a bit pretentious."

"Location is great for attending functions at Scottsdale Performing Arts Center. We've been to the restaurant several times and conclude that the prices are just too high for the amount of food you get. Love the atmosphere but will return just occasionally."

"The food was great and the server was great. That said, it seemed hat something was off on the night we were there. The host seemed overwhelmed and we had to wait about 15 minutes past our reservation time for a table even though the restaurant was at best half full. They were out f a number of itmes (the server told us some when we sat down and others we learned about 20 minutes after ordering them). Hopefully it was just a bad night for the staff."

"Distrito was really fun - great small dishes and environment is lively. We had the mahi-mahi tacos they have an excellent sauce that reminded us of our trip to La Paz. The guacamole is very fresh and chunky. The lamp chop was generous and the sauces were really rich and tasty. The meatballs were good and spicy and the crab claws were interesting. All in all - excellent food and lots of fun."

"Service was impeccable. I was surprised that the execution on some dishes wasn't as precise as I had anticipated. Menu was great, if not a little bit disjointed. All in all, a very good restaurant that I had hoped would be great. One big plus, the gimlet served was spectacular."

"The new menu is not as good as the old menu. The whole point of Distrito used to be getting dishes to share and taste among friends. Now, they have many single-serving entrees which are small and not equipped to be shared, even though the waiter advised they were. The salads were tiny.
Some of the wait staff is phenomenal. One waiter named Keith (don't know last name) is especially great. We had a waiter who knew little about the menu, less about the tequila, and who didn't take our order for the first 45 minutes.
I'm not sure I'll go back unless they offer a better sharing menu. I can go pay $25-30 for a small, single-serve entree somewhere else."

"What a great night. Looking for a great date for my wife and I while the kids were away. We traveled to Scottsdale for a night on the town. First I have to admit, I'm addicted to Ceviches right now, and this place didn't disappoint. Started with the Atun ceviche, and then bumped it up with a little more aggressive spice with the Hiramasa. In a word, amazing. Both had great complex flavors that continued to reveal themselves as you savored every bite. Second we pushed on to the Steak and Pork tacos. Again a unique taste that exceeded expectations on both cases. Dinner was the short ribs and while good, not the star of the dinner. Finished with the Churros with two dipping sauces. Muy Bien."

"I do realize that this is a high-end Mexican restaurant and the dishes need to sound exotic, but Distrito needs to make the menu so a guest can tell what the dishes are. I also found that the description of the ingredients in a dish did not always match up to the dish itself. The menue needs to get more user friendly."

"Disappointed. Have eaten here several times in past & loved it. The nachos are still pretty good. Everything else tastes like they are cutting corners. Wondering if it may have changed hands. Margaritas are ok, except on the menu it says the Jefe is made with lime juice & it definitely tasted like mix. Once a favorite of mine, not so much now."

"I have taken my family to Distrito many times. This is my favorite restaurant in Scottsdale. Finely crafted Mexican food with great ingredients. Our server was so thoroughly informed, he went over the entire menu, including the seasoning for each dish, and we didn't even ask him. This is a fantastic restaurant."

"We dined on a Monday evening. Restaurant was fairly slow. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu, but as slow as the night was, it was evident that he wasn't overly happy to be there. On the other hand, the food was very good. We chose to go with the small items and tacos to get a taste of everything. All of the food had big flavors in little portions. The churros for dessert were fantastic. Great way to end the meal."

"Our first dining experience at Distrito was outstanding; which is what brought us back for an encore; unfortunately the Menu has been dramatically scaled down and many of our favorites are now missing on the new menu. The original menu offered "Mexico City Street Foods", which were very authentic and very tasty. We are not as impressed with the new menu, and hope they revert to the original concept and food offerings.
The service on the 14th was marginal at best; the server seemed new and unsure of himself. We were not told of any specials, nor were any of the dishes explained in any detail; we did note that other servers seemed much more engaged and informed than our server was."

"We went during the launch of a new menu and I understand there may be some bugs; however, I seriously doubt the chef tasted any of the food that went out. The dish I ordered was so heavily salted that I had to send it back, another dish was almost completely cold.
Our waiter was nice and very friendly but did not offer a ton of detail regarding the menu. We still do not know if the Taco bar or the tasting menu was even offered the night we went.
The restaurant manager was very good! Once he found out about our issues, he made it right. The staff overall is pretty good, nice people.
Not every dish was bad, some were very good. I have read other review and most folks say that it is hit or miss...I would agree with that."

"We are big fans of Jose Garces and love all of his other restaurants. This one was a great disappointment. Cocktails were weak and watery. Queso fundido was more than half peppers and onions, with very little cheese. Chorizo sausage was overcooked and displayed in a very unattractive way. The tacos were all lukewarm and bland except for the pork one which was delicious. Server was pleasant but unconcerned about our dislike for our meal - she seemed confused that we were upset the food was not hot. As we were leaving the manager came to speak to us but it was really too little, too late. Dining was probably attractive but it was so dark it was hard to tell. Really a miss - very disappointing."
