eat here - Sarasota
Eat Here offers chef-driven, American artisan cookery. Our emphasis is on local product and fresh Gulf seafood served in presentations suitable for sharing and tasting. A casual neighborhood place, with a community table, featuring craft beers and wines. The rooftop bar, overlooking the fountain courtyard and the city of Sarasota, features specialty cocktails, classic martinis, charcuterie, and live music.
While we are accepting reservations, we also keep tables open each evening to allow lots of walk in availability.

"It was delightful to find a meal choice for our vegan guest at Eat Here. For me, the onion soup is a must--the best I have tasted anywhere! The panko encrusted shrimp is equally delightful-- as is everything the four of us ordered--from the Vegan dish to the fish and meat entrees. Eat Here has something for everyone! We highly recommend the restaurant for anyone that truly enjoys healthy, tasty and superbly prepared and presented meals!"

"the food was good but the service was terrible. Very slow and long waits for drinks, appetizers, refills and food. Noise level is so bad it is impossible to have a conversation at one's table.

"Great food, but, the place setting and silverware were what one would expect at a "diner" not a restaurant connected to The Beach Bistro - sad, makes me wonder , do the patrons steal the cutlery? :)

"We had a wonderful time. I took my Mother for her birthday. Our server's name was Kelly and she was AMAZING! She was so kind and helpful to my mom and step dad, who had never eaten there before. The food was exceptional as usual. And Kelly even had the staff sing happy birthday to my mom! You could tell they don't do that often, and it was so very sweet. This is my 4th time eating here. I have brought someone new every time I come and everyone loves it. Great place over all. And Kelly deserves a raise!"

"I have eaten at Eat Here four times and have always been pleased. However, I think the menu items need to be freshened. The standards are good, but the selection is becoming boring and tired. We visited on a Saturday night and the specials were mahi and chicken tacos. Wahoo was the fish of the night, with no special preparation. There was also a surf and turf and duck...but the preparations lacked interest for this diner. I had a hard time deciding what to eat. That said, all food ordered was good. The attention paid to us by our waiter was just OK. Not what I've experienced in the past. I would definitely opt to try a new or different dining experience in downtown Sarasota."

"The food was very good and the wait staff excellent. Items on the menu were somewhat different such as the fried beets. Very good but different (at least to us). Glad we found the restaurant and believe it is a keeper on our list. Parking was also confusing. If you went into the garage there were many empty spaces reserved for "Eat Here Employees". However there was a sign in the garage that said Open Parking after 5PM. Didn't know what to do. Didn't think that there that many employees who were not at work during the evening dinner and cocktail hour."

"Ate here with my family before seeing a show at the Asolo. Right in downtown Sarasota, so parking is street or garage, but we were able to get a spot very close to the restaurant. Nice outdoor area. The waitstaff serves everyone so service was quick and efficient. Food comes out very quickly and plates smallish, so meant to order several and share. Some things are a little pricey for the size of the dish, but all of the food was tasty and delicious. We had the beef tacos, shrimp tacos, grilled cheese, French onion soup, pot roast, mussels and ribs. Everyone enjoyed the creative and flavorful food."

"The decision to pair shrimp with the filet for the "surf and Turf" and to use shrimp in the "fish tacos" showed little imagination. One of our party wanted the tacos but selected her second choice. The waitress was asked if the chef would substitute Mahi for the shrimp, and was told that he wouldn't do that. Not very acommodating! Another in our party wanted the surf and turf, but also selected his second choice. The quality of the food was excellent as was the service and ambiance."

"We were there 6:30 PM and sat outside. Service very slow and after asking the waiter for a drink...he acted like he was doing us a favor. Servers very snooty and food only mediocre. Sun was setting and directly in one of our party's eyes and we asked the waiter to lower shade and instead of doing it...said he'd ask the manager. When we mentioned it again...they very reluctantly did it. Only then did they suggested we move. Very poor dining experience.

"Very good, as usual. We arrived promptly but had to wait a few minutes for a table. We were offered a complimentary glass of wine while we waited---a nice touch (other restaurants take note!). We shared a mediterranean platter, which was good but not great. For main courses, I had the duck (a generous portion) and my wife had lobster tacos---both were very good. We shared a pineapple cake for dessert. It was very good. The beer and wine by the glass were reasonably priced. Overall, a pleasant experience."

"This is fun, lively (pretty noisy) place full of families and groups having fun. We had reservations at 7 on a Saturday night and the place was nearly full. My husband and I split the Helluva Tomato Soup and it was plenty to share for an appetizer and came with a nice piece of garlic bread. I had the ribs--yummy a bit sweet and very meaty. They came with good fries. My husband got the veal meatloaf--fantastic--with the best mashed potatoes. Not mashed potatoes loaded with cheese and other stuff, they just tasted like fantastic potatoes. I had a glass of decent $6 wine and my husband had good coffee. We wished we would have had time to sit at the rooftop bar and listen to live music. Bill for 2 was $55.64 plus tip. Friendly service."

"The waitstaff are very friendly and quite helpful explaining menu choices. The food was not great but certainly good. Portions are just right - we left feeling comfortably full, not overstuffed or still hungry. Like that they serve bottled wines by the 1/2 carafe. The disconcerting part was that food items are brought to the table as they prepared so one person in our party had their food while the other three waited. Even tho' you are told upfront this is what to expect, it wasn't a comfortable scenario for us so not sure we'll go back again."

"We had an excelllent meal at Eat Here. My husband had the meat loaf, I had the pot roast, and our friends had duck and mahi mahi. All were delicious. We loved the chicken and kale soup. On Thursdays, ladies' night, the first drink was free, an added bonus."

"Very busy resturant. We had a reservation and we were very upset when we got there and they wanted to seat us at a high top right inside the front door (cold night out). The whole dining room is very cramped but I don't think they should force people to sit at high tops unless they request them. I told them I did not want the high top and after much discussion between us and a few restaurant staff they finally were able to get us a better table. Food was good, but I guess the atmosphere is a bit too loud and cramped for my taste"

"It was a cool night, no outside dining, even though there were heaters. We arrived for 5 pm. The restaurant quickly filled up. My husband had the wedge salad & fish stew. I had onion soup & ribs. All were delish! We also enjoyed a glass of wine. Tables were a little close together. The service was great"

"We ate here with 2 friends. One ordered the salad, two had pizza and the last the house special mahi mahi. Everything was delicious. The salad was delivered, then about 10 minutes later the pizzas and after another 10 minutes the fish special. We asked the waiter about the special as our pizza sat getting cold waiting for everyone to be served. His comment was we serve it as it comes out of the kitchen and the pizza doesn't take as long."

"The waiter, Brian, was not well trained. I asked for a 'twist' with my scotch, which was not received I asked Brian again for a 'twist of lemon'. Again, not received. Finally, the third time I asked, He brought a 'wedge' of lemon!
My first drink was in a glass filled with shaved ice... That was not Brian's fault, but for the second drink I asked Brian to 'just add the scotch to the glass' and pointed out that no more ice was necessary. My second drink returned with the glass overflowing with shaved ice! This time it WAS Brian's fault. Had he wanted to he could have removed the offending ice...just as I had to. As we were exposed to other wait staff we know they were they were there, so Brian was just the luck of the draw."
