"The good food is outstanding, but it took three hours for all of the courses to be served. There was a lot of time waiting for the next course. Something not controllable by the restaurant was heavy wind out the windows which sounded like a hurricane. We will definitely go back because the food is so good."

"Among the many fixed price, multi course restaurants in San Francisco, Keiko a Nob Hill holds its own. It's not the trendiest, or hottest or most over-the-top, but the dishes are creative the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. Price-wise, Keiko is less expensive than most but after adding an extra course that was offered, plus corkage, the price was more inline with others.
Something to note is that their wine list is superb, one of the best we'd ever seen, and reasonably priced to boot! A first growth Bordeaux can be had for less than $300, which if you've bought any of that lately, will impress you as a bargain."

"This dining experience was amazing. The individual courses were elegant, like poetry on a platter. All were very flavorful with the finest ingredients I've tasted in a while. The portions were small but filling. We chose the wine pairing with our 7 course meal and found that they perfectly complimented each course. They were from boutique vineyards and were quite delicious. The servers were very attentive and were willing to make adjustments for food preferences, if needed, from the main menu. This is definitely a special occasion restaurant. (A little pricey but well worth the experience.)We will be returning again."

"The food here is wonderful: Michelin worthy, Californian cuisine with French and Japanese undertones. The dining room is relatively small, only 7 tables, dark chocolate mocha color, elegant (i.e., "old money" nob hill) and comfortable. We did not want to eat the lamb which was on the prix fix menu and they happily accommodated. This was our fault since they called me the night before just to make sure, but I never retrieved that voicemail (so please make sure to contact them the night before by phone and verify if the items in the menu is acceptable to you palette). The salad was spectacular! Each vegetable was intentionally accounted for as they were placed atop a thin circle of tiny bread crumbs which added to the texture. One of best!"

"The tasting menu at Keiko is fresh, surprising and stunning. Allow at least three hours from start to finish. After six or seven courses, my husband and I agreed that there wasn't a miss in the lineup. He was wowed by the carmelized onion mousse with osetra caviar and scallop tartare, and my favorite was the cheese course, which included Keiko's signature gorganzola ice cream on black (or red?) pepper breadcrumbs and some sort of savory "cheesecake." The lobster ravioli, which is now included in the tasting menu and no longer an extra, was terrific, as well. The wine list is impressive, with many older vintages, and equally expensive, but there are some reasonable options, not many, but enough. We'll be back."

"Food is very inventive, delicious and well balanced. It isn't overly salty, so we can taste the ingredients. Each dish has it's own unique characteristics, which we appreciated. Of the fine restaurants we've been to (Benu, Gary Danko, Melisse in Santa Monica, The Dining Room, Charles Nob Hill-predecessor at this location-,...) this is one of the best. Of course it's no French Laundry, but for less than 1/2 the price it's certainly worth the trip. The dining room is very cozy with only a few tables, so it's easy to overhear other people's conversations. We had a very enthusiatic and flirty lady next to us, which was a bit annoying, but overall it was a great experience for a nice evening out with the hubby without kids. :)"

"This is the second time in three weeks we've eaten at Keiko. Let me tell you, this is the best restaurant in SF, in our estimation. I don't know where to begin. The inventive food is out of this world. It has subtle Japanese influence, which we love. The presentation is unreal, and the flavors of each dish are clearly carefully created. This time, we came back to try a rare bottle of wine that the Sommalier told us he had and we were not disappointed in the least. The menu was exactly the same as it was three weeks ago, and that wasn't a disappointment in the least. In fact, we were so impressed the first visit, we were delighted that it was the same. This is a beautiful, quiet, quintessential SF restaurant. An ABSOLUTE MUST."

""You get what you pay for" has never been more true than at Keiko a Nob Hill. Absolutely stunning food at stunning prices makes this place a special occasion spot for me but if I had the cash I would eat here as much as possible. Little edible works of art combined with an expansive wine list makes for a wonderful evening."

"I enjoyed the food immensely. This restaurant is a safe bet with very exquisitely prepared and presented food. Amazing taste and the first restaurant in SF that I enjoyed all courses of the meal. Our server Robbie was great and was very attentive to any of our needs and was the perfect level of chattiness that made the experience enjoyable.
The sommelier on the other hand was very attentive to another table and was least attentive to our table. Didn't really bother to explain the wine nor how he selected it to pair with the food. Terrible! I just suggest getting a good bottle of wine and not doing the wine pairing in the end.
Aside from that Keiko and her husband has done a smashing job and I look forward to dining with them again."

"I've been fortunate to eat at some really great restaurants in my life. Keiko a Nob Hill might be the best. I honestly don't know enough superlatives and descriptors to accurately describe this truly special dining experience. I will say that with every dish you can see the level of thought and care that with each dish and each of my eight courses was perfectly made. I can't recommend it enough."

"The ambiance is very cold, and the service rather cool as well. The food is art. It is meticulously presented and beautiful, but all the plates are very small. Of the 7 courses, the salad and desert (variations on creme brulee) left a lasting impression as far as taste is concerned. A lobster ravioli was tasty but not truly special and gone in a couple of bites. The cheese plate was attractive to look at but I found this the most disappointing dish - we both thought the central piece of cheese was quite bland. The wine list is very impressive and reasonably priced for the amazing wines you can get. The memorable bottle of wine we had was the best part of the experience."

"Slightly mixed review. Still a multi-small-roomed gem, familiar feel with luxe decor updates from Charles/Nob Hill days; exquisite, meticulous, perfect cuisine, presentations beyond reproach, friendly service. $95 for a tasting menu at this rarified level is expected, but optional extras were a whopping $65 for 2 oz kobe extra course (per person), and $45 for generous black truffle shaves per person on an existing course. We could not find any fault with any course, but only one elicited a 'wow' reaction. We're experienced fine diners (but not smug!) and expect more wow moments from an haute cuisine restaurant. Most cities would be lucky to have Keiko, but it's different here with the likes of Campton and Benu. We would happily return."

"The food was for the most part quite imaginative and delicious. The wine list is extensive but notably short on whites. The big problem was the service: the sommelier was abrupt, pushy and rude and his attitude detracted from the experience. The rest of the waitstaff were nicer but there was something unpolished about all of them.. For prices like these this is unforgivable. Back to the food, some of the dishes were just amazing: beautiful balances of flavor. One -- a vegetable medley -- was insipid. The portions are quite small to the point where I feared I might even still be hungry afterwards. Fortunately not the case but it was borderline. "Very good restaurant with amazing food. They try hard to sell the add ons black truffles($45 for one course) and Wagyu Beef($65 as an extra course). We had both but for only one patron each(we were in 3), so everyone could try. The wine pairing is excellent, a must have. We had the regular one for 2 people and the grand for 1. It is not a great difference except for a Hungarian Sweet wine that was absolutely amazing. Service had ups and down, the women who presented our dishes speaks very bad english and the sommelier was a tiny bit rude when we had different pairings and only the ad ons for one people only. The wine presentation and water refilling were excellent, and the timing between the dishes and the amount od food, perfect."

"The ambiance was cozy, charming and modestly refined. We sat in the room that was more "romantic" and intimate, it felt like one was dining in someone's house. The courses were presented at a good pace, and every dish was a feast for eyes and stomach. The flavors were complex and artful presentations to match. The fusion of fundamental french methods with japanese ingredients and garnishing was an adventure you cannot miss!"

"We did the pre-fixe meal and wine pairing. Outstanding food and food delivery from both the waitress and the Sommelier. We liked all the wines and all but the Rose complemented the accompanying course. The timing of the wine delivery and course was well done. The noise level was quiet since the tables were spread out and we were among the earlier arrivals for the evening.
The only issue we ran into is that 2 tables finished their meals at roughly the same time. Our bills & credit cards were exchanged. We switched the bills, but ours still needed updating, which was promptly done. No doubt the restaurant was slightly embarassed over this, given the their numerous apologies. We found it a little bit amusing in the scheme of thing."
