Citrus features an innovative New American menu in a dramatic setting along the River Walk. Chef Jeffery Balfour, recognized as a rising star in Texas’ culinary scene, has developed an ever-changing menu that takes the finest ingredients available and prepares them in elegant, imaginative ways. Gulf Shrimp, Prime Tenderloin, and other seafood, beef and wild game are house specialties. Chef Balfour seeks out Texas-based game and seafood along with locally grown produce, and combines these with ingredients from around the globe. Located in downtown San Antonio’s theater district only footsteps from the Majestic and Empire Theatres, Citrus is the ideal place to begin an evening on the town. Theater-goers can take advantage of Citrus’ prix fixe Pre-Theatre Menu, a three-course meal designed to get diners well-fed and on to the show. Stop by often — the menu is continuously updated to reflect the freshest ingredients in season.
"My wife and I and one other couple dined at Citrus prior to attending the Majestic. The 3 course meal had a wide variety of choices and the portions were large The staff was attentive without being obtrusive and we were able to enjoy a leisurely meal and made it to the performance on time. I highly recommend them. We will be returning"

"I was here years ago and loved the restaurant. Unfortunately, this time we had a waitress who didn't know the special, but she "thought" it might be halibut. After checking, she returned, but then didn't know the sides and said, "I'd try it." It took almost 30 minutes to get appetizers and 45 minutes to get the check. It may have taken longer, but I finally asked the hostess.
The prices are very high for the quality. If the pricing had been reasonable, I might not be so harsh with the ratings. The servers need training and a tasting of specials at the beginning of the night. Some simple training goes a long way. I can see why the restaurant was empty on a Wednesday night."

"We had specifically reserved a table on the patio, but they were all full and unable to seat us outside. It was highly disappointing and the hostess didn't really seem to care. Our service took WAY too long between courses, making the meal last well over two hours - Despite the fact that the place was almost empty. The food was very good, but the overall ambivalence to us as customers was disappointing."

"Fresh, seasonal menu items are even better than described by the attentive, but unobtrusive wait staff. Scallop and crab cake appetizers were exceptional as were the Bronzini and Snapper entrees. Order the oxtail with aioli slaw appetizer- incredibly good despite how it might sound. A dessert described as a kind of cheesecake was not appreciated by the child who ordered it, but the adults at the table practically fought over it. It might just be the best meal we've had in San Antonio, even though we've been to many perhaps more well-known chefs' restaurants."

"Food was great. Our waiter Michael made the experience even better. He gave great recommendations for food and wine. Do yourself a favor and get the banana spring rolls dessert and crab cake appetizer. You won't regret it."

"On a Saturday (03/30/13) at noon we were the single table of 6 at the restaurant. It took an 1 1/2 for lunch and we had to remind the staff we were there twice. The food was good but the experience was very odd and not worth repeating. Staff said they were not use to having noon business and that the kitchen was small even though it is a large place."

"Ahh, it's always refreshing to go to Citrus. It was 2 of us for dinner and we dined outside on the patio on the river. We were going to a Play so we had a good hour and half but would suggest 2 hours to really take your time and enjoy. The staff are very attentive to your time and what you want to do, in accordance to having your food on time. We had the appetizers, crab cakes (fabulous) and the rock shrimp (fried and tasty). Then for the entrees we both had the Beef Filet. Delicious! The presentation of the dishes, the Chef must be very proud! Don't forget about this wonderful downtown place! Have fun!"

"Everyone (party of five) loved their appetizers. I had the diver scallops and they were perfect. The entrées and desserts were very good also. The server was great, the staff were accommodating. They even had my favorite martini gin which most restaurant bars do not serve. Overall a very pleasurable dining experience."

"The restaurant was very gracious when my table for one became a table for 8, at the very last minute, due to an unexpected weather delay that stranded the rest of our conference team. We immediately noted the beautiful ambience when we walked in and we received a prime table in the middle of the restaurant that made our group feel very special. The meal was wonderful: I enjoyed the scallop appetizer, the bronzini entree and the trio of homemade ice creams for dessert. The wine list had some very good values including the Loire Valley savignon blanc we enjoyed with our fish dishes. The prix fixe option was a good one for most of us, and yet one of our diners with a smaller appetite could also be satisfied with the a la carte option."

"Overall we had a good experience- great seating overlooking Riverwalk and wonderful food. Unfortunately there were some loud, inebriated diners outside as well. This ruined the ambiance and made it difficult for our party of 5 to hear each other. Also, our server could not light the portable fireplace. it made for a slightly chilly meal. I still recommend the place, and hopefully we will not have the same dining companions when we return on our next visit to San Antonio."

"This place was absolutely Phenomenal! The way they had the restaurant set up for Valentines Day couldn't have been any more perfect. The staff was very friendly and courteous to the idea that it was a special night, and our waiter was extremely helpful with clarifying our best options with the menu. There was not one part of the food that couldn't be argued as some of the best I have ever had. Was ridiculously delicious! The Best Dinner I Have Ever Had!"

"How very special...romantic, unusual and classic fresh foods, artistically prepared and served. It was out last night of a lovely few days in San Antonio, and we wanted a special night -- it surpassed our wishes. We were seated on the terrace, overlooking the Riverwalk...so romantic! I dined on antelope; my sweetheart ate snapper. We shared an outstanding crabcake salad. Sadly, we were too well-filled to sample dessert...but we look forward to another visit to remedy that situation!"

"Went for dinner on our anniversary 2/13. Had a nice quiet table, but could still hear the flameco guitar. Very nice. Our waiter brought out a lovely anniversary dessert for us. The brazini were quite good."

"Tonight's meal was exceptional! The meal was OUTSTANDING (I don't say that very often!) and our server Kristi was simply awesome. The restaurant was not super busy and we were a bit "worried" as many other places on the riverwalk were booked. We were seated immediately and given bread and water quickly. The rest of the meal was slow paced--perfect for our group of 4 that were hoping to enjoy a long evening together. The filet was delicious, the pork was even better! Everything from salads to dessert could not have been better. We mentioned that it was someone's birthday in our group--his dessert was made personal with a chocolate little message. If you are looking for outstanding, unusual food, with wonderful service, this is it!"

"Indoors smelled moldy and decor was bland, so we asked to be seated outdoors which was nice. Food looked great but neither entree tasted as we expected. One was too bland, other too salty."
