"Upon arrival it was quiet, however it filled up soon... Glad I took the time to make a reservation as quite a few people had the same place in mind. Cozy and welcoming, and the food was fantastic. I had the bacon burger, and mom had the Lancaster, their own version of eggs Benedict....which were excellent. The service was a bit slow toward the end, but like I said, business had picked up quite a bit. Oh, and the waitstaff brought all the moms roses. What a nice touch!"

"We had our in-laws in town & wanted a nice dinner close to Jones Hall. The Bistro at the Lancaster Hotel has great ambiance (this is an historic hotel, after all). The food was very good, and we were all able to find something that fit with everyone's varying diet needs. Overall, I would recommend this place for a nice night out in Downtown Houston."

"We usually dine at The Bistro Lancaster when attending a performance in the Houston arts complex, and did so this time. We weren't disappointed as the food was delicious. We shared a goat cheesecake appetizer, and I had the shrimp with corn tamale while my wife had seared sea bass. We had a beautiful bottle of Sancerre that wasn't overpriced. The wait staff are well used to serving per-theater meals and we had plenty of time without being rushed. Plenty of others had the same idea as the restaurant was full as usual. Let's face it, the Bistro is a bit staid and dated while still being a lovely spot for a meal. We were excited to hear from the waiter that the restaurant was going to get an updating soon."

"A virtually empty restaurant on a Sunday afternoon before a Houston Symphony concert. We stood waiting at the maitre d' station without anyone acknowledging our presence. Finally, the young lady at the bar came and seated us. We waited and waited for menus, drinks, etc watching the waitress chat with a woman who was now at the maitre' d station. Nothing happened. Finally, we waved at her, and the waitress came over. Service was desultory. Meal was fine. We ordered dessert. We waited. Waitress brought the check. My husband asked about his dessert. Waitress brought the dessert and saying that she has comped it. We don't care about free desserts; we care about efficient, professional service.
An absolutely irritating experience."

"Overall, the experience was good, not great. The food was inconsistent. I had the crab cakes which were excellent. My husband's steak was overdone and fairly bland. The salads were OK and the baked opyster appetizer was very good. There were only 3 other tables of patrons there on a Sat. night so no people watching to speak of. The restaurant is small wih very low ceilings- cozy almost to the point of claustrophobic. Ther service was very good but didn't quite make up for the boring atmosphere."

"One of our favorite places to go before the Alley theater. Menu is always season and a nice balance of small and large items. Last time we went we all ordered seafood: it was all delicious except the scallops, which were mediocher. Service is pleasant and efficient without making you feel rushed, but if you are on a time schedule--to get to the theater--they take good care of you and make sure you get out on time. We also come here post theater for drinks: a great late night place. Not a big place, but the intimate enviornment is part of the charm."

"This restaurant presents very measured service and adequate menu and quality to meet your expectations. Sad to say, there are not an abundance of interesting restaurants within the theatre district and folks tend to gravitate to the same few restaurants and this is one of those on any given theatre night. They will get you out the door for your performance but menu needs some updating. If you go there often, nothing ever changes on the menu so very formula driven. Please give us veterans a few new items! Quality is fine, just introduce some variety."

"We had reservations for dinner at 8:00PM, after the pre-theatre crowd had left. We basically had the restaurant all to our selves, just a few other couples. The food was all very well prepared. The chilean sea bass was excellent and the hot chocolate cake was devine. The service was attentive enough. The wine list is a tad limited, but they made a great cosmopolitan."

"We arrived on time for a 5PM reservation and noticed the place didn't fill up until after 6PM and even then there were at least two table available. The only reservation time slots available on your site were 5Pm and 8PM when I made my reservation. Perhaps the Lancaster only alots a few times for Open Table? I would have prefered a 5:30 or 5:45 slot, but had a great time anyway."

"Bistro Lancaster is in such an ideal situation particularly if you're going to the Alley (like I was!). Food is always delicious - I had the shrimp & corn tamale; previous visit a couple of months ago, I had the jumbo scallops. Love the bustling, sophisticated ambience!"

"We dined before a concert at Jones Hall and every table was occupied. Too few waiters for the number of clients, all wanting service before a concert or other event. Lancaster has too many tables for the available area and the space is uncomfortably crowded. Overcrowding with tables spoils the décor of the room. Food was very good, but atmosphere dampened the evening."

"prices have gone up considerably since my last visit. Food was good, but no better than could be enjoyed at another comparable place for less money.
Very irritating new policy about parking--Valet parking is $15. The restaurant will validate, which allows for a 50% reduction in the fee. So, it costs $8 on top of the meal. That's ridiculous, when street parking or parking in adjacent lots could be had for much less."

"This was my first time at this place. We had Opera tickets. Good spot for before theatre dining. Food is good but the wait staff was nothing to boast about. My guest was 10 minutes late. While I waited in an empty restaurant no one really greeted me or offered me a drink while I waited. Even when we both were at the table. The staff was not very attentive at all and I do not see that they were that busy. When asking the waitress to describe a dish, she simply read me the menu. I definitely won't go there for a special occasion. It was good but nothing special."

"We made reservations after symphony, bistro was full. We didn't see any one at front door so we proceeded to bar. It was so busy at bar and restaurant . We decided to stay at bar, Dino acknowledged us and came right away.
We order appetizers and wine. He gave us taste of wine before poring glass. It was great watching him making drink one by one smiling and talking from waiters to customers. My wife loved service and special drink he made for her. This is our new bar every time we go to show."

"The food is always the constant - rather high quality and perfect portions. However, - and this is new - they added tables in the lobby of the hotel for dinner and really spread the staff very thin. The only time we had wait service was when we stopped our waitress. That is too bad as I would have rated this restaurant higher based on bistro-like ambiance and good food. Also, tip of the hat to good bartender."
