The name "Land of Vines" was given to the South of Italy upon its discovery by the Greeks, for it's great expanse of vines across its rich & fertile country sides to seaside cliffs along the coast.
Master Chef Massimo Navarretta was raised farming & making wine at its heart, the region of Campania. At "Onotria," savor the gastronomy & oenology of wine producing regions of the world.
True to a farmer's spirit, all our food products are 100% natural, hormone-free, antibiotic-free, & of the highest quality of organic & biodynamic seasonal offerings.
"First timer and very impressed. Celebrating birthdays for two special friends and they loved it! Wonderful food and service. Planning to return soon."

"Repeat diners/have always enjoyed. Especially love the sustainable garden & spying the sous chef tip toeing around harvesting fresh herbs & veggies. Appetizers presented table side tempting. All looked scrumptious! Had my dining companion have bigger appetite, would have indulged. Shared tomato & avocado salad, a nice split size portion, REFRESHING! My companion ordered the pork medallions & enjoyed the sauce & flavors tremendously although was a bit disappointed w/the toughness of the pork. I opted for the penne w/wild boar ragu as it sounded so promisingly full of flavor. Was good, though not as anticipated, really nothing special. Did not really seem like an Onotria entrée. For the cost of our meal, this visit fell a little short."

"The restaurant was very quiet as only a few people dined during the lunch hour. For us this was perfect as we could have a conversation. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendly staff. The food is good and is a bit on the high end for lunch time dining. For an Italian restaurant I was expecting more pasta dishes and I don't remember any on the menu. The menu is different but that is what makes this restaurant quaint and different."

"Great ambiance and feel. Really good food. If you love wine pairings with the right food; this is your place. We went with another couple and had a great time sharing and tasting the different dishes. The wait staff was very friendly and fun. Wines are pricey, food is reasonable."

"Fun dinner before the theater. I had the octopus (with fennel and artichoke) - tender and good. My wife chose the scallop special, with pasta and saffron. Everything was delicious!"

"I have been to Onotria for several work and charitable events but never as a casual diner. My husband had read some previous reviews as he had never been there before and was skeptical. He said we were either going to love it or hate it! I knew it would be the former and it certainly was! The menu is simple but pleasing to everyone! We had the stuffed zucchini blossoms that took us back to our recent trip to Sorrento! The wine list was extensive and reasonable. We had an amazing bottle which complemented the wonderful rib eye and filet that we each had. Their bread is amazing too! We will certainly be back and bring our friends!"

"This restaurant is right on busy Bristol Street, and is not much to look at from the outside. Complimentary valet parking. Atmosphere nice inside, and service was good. Menu hard to follow, as it is listed according to suggested wine pairings, and descriptions of dishes did not match food that was served. Food was so-so (papardelle with duck and dried figs came with a curry sauce, which was not mentioned on the menu, and wild boar penne pasta had an overpowering red sauce that did not allow the flavor of the boar to shine through). Dessert (creme caramel) was excellent, but could not detect any flavor of amaretto, as was mentioned on the menu. Overall, restaurant somewhat overpriced for quality of the food. Excellent wines."

"It was just a gem, that not many people seem to have heard of. Wine list was extensive. Suggested pairings for each foood item on menu. That was a nice touch. We had Sergio for waiter. Very Italian! I intend to go back when I am next in Orange County. PS, the front of the restaurant looks very unkempt, until you realize they have their orange herb and vegetable garden."

"First time at restaurant. Celebrating Valentine's Day the Saturday after Valentine's Day. I expected it to be noisy with the hard surface decor. Very hard to hear waiter announce dinner specials.
We were not given a wine list even though we asked for one. We brought two bottles of wine to share with the 4 of us, yet we would of liked to seen the wine list also...since it was our first time.
The waiter did not provide the proper service, and even though we paid a corkage fee of $25 per bottle, we found ourselves pouring our own wine on occasion.
The menu had a wide selection. Yet, our meals were not very good for the price."

"The inside of the place is nice, but from the outside it doesn't seem so appealing. The food was very average. What totally amazed me was for an Italian restaurant to charge you $4 for 2 spoonfuls of olive oil!!! Imagine going to a hamburger joint and be charged for Ketchup :) I had never seen an Italian restaurant charge an outrageous amount for olive oil! I had to order it because I thought it would be the best olive oil on earth, but it was very average :( Our waiter, although friendly, was also the bartender and had to keep running back and forth! The view is just the view of under the freeway! Overall, C-"

"I really enjoyed our Valentine dinner with friends. The appetizer of a soft cheese topping blood oranges with balsamic vinaigrette was excellent. Our table had the filet and sea bass. The risotto with pomegranate seeds was great. Ask for Sergio."

"Great dining! Excellent chef! Good wine selection! The only down side is the noise. It's always very loud. They should try to implement ways to absorb the noise."

"This was not our first time and the wine flight deals in the bar keep bringing us back. Oh and the awesome pizza!! The staff seemed overwhelmed this time though. Very confused. No idea where food was going. The bartender had help, but clearly not enough. Even after our food eventually found us, we had to wait to get his attention and ask for napkins/silverware. Again, the food is always good. But, they appear to be understaffed or newly staffed, not sure which, maybe both."

"The atmosphere was very nice and lively on the Friday we went. They had a huge wine selection and were moderate to slightly over priced on their bottles. The food itself was very good but the portions are European style and are small for the price, so don't go there extremely hungry if you don't want to spend the money. Our waiter was very friendly and the service was great. I would recommend Onotria more for a special occasion than just a normal dinner."

"I had a group of very important clients in town who also happened to be high level restaurant executives and I wanted to do something really special for dinner. Chef Massimo crated a delicious five course menu paired with some great wine. My clients were very impressed which is hard to do when it comes to very discerning veteran restauranteurs. The staff prepared a some of the dishes table side and everything was perfectly seasoned only with fresh local organically grown herbs (from their garden in front of the restaurant) and cooked expertly. I would recommend this restaurant for groups, business dinners or just a regular night out with friends or family. It was truly a special experience!"

"The exterior is unassuming however, the minute you step in the door, my guests found it charming with a relaxed ambiance. I want to describe the interior as Country French, but it is Italian. Risotto with truffles is delicious."

"Met the owner/chef. He is great to talk to: he genuinely loves food. The service leaves a lot to be desired. We had several problems that could have been easily resolved or avoided. A strong general manager presence can do a lot to match the service to its intended audience."
