"A friend and i went for lunch on Monday were NOT impressed. The service was poor, waiter not attentive. We pointed out the white napkins left lots of lint on our pants and asked to have others. Yes, he did bring brown napkins bit they too were covered in white lint. One of our salads came out without dressing and we had to ask where the other meal was. I was excited to try this restaurant and was disappointed to say the least."

"Came here for Mother's Day brunch, it was fantastic. Service was really friendly. We got the pork belly slider's, greg's meatballs, eggs benedict, and french toast. The eggs benedict was some of the best I've ever had! the pork belly sliders were amazing as well. I didn't really like Greg's Meatballs. They tasted more like breakfast sausage than an italian meatball...maybe it's just something I didn't expect. Would def go back for brunch and would love to try dinner."

"I almost don't want to write this review because it was such a great River North lunch find, and I don't want it to become too crowded for us :) I had been here for a bustling dinner before, and decided to try it for lunch with coworkers. We arrived at noon on a Friday, and were surprised to find it not terribly crowded, loud or obnoxious. The food and service were exceptional, and we were in and out within an hour. We went with sandwiches instead of shared plates. The burger was perfection, fish BLT was light and flaky, the meatball sub was a deliciously different take on something so traditional. Great fries, and a hearty side salad accompaniment. Prices are reasonable for River North; we'll be back for sure."

Problems with service. Not all of our ordered food items were served to us. We told the waiter, waited another 15 minutes, and the rest of our order was still not ready. Since we had theater tickets, we had to leave."

"The food was pretty good and the grilled shrimp linguini was AMAZINGLY good! I loved the service at the bar and the white sangria was quite tasty. However, my server was quite pushy and the hostess at the door weren't that welcoming. The server, however, was good at making recommendations for what to eat, but he just didn't have much of a friendly vibe."

"Food was very good. Specialty drinks at the bar were very good as well. Only two complaints: 1. We made a reservation for two people for 8:45 pm on Opentable and were not seated until almost 9:30. Restaurant was crowded with bachelorette parties on the night we visited. Hostess said she would cover a round of drinks for us but we had already purchased our own at the bar. Restaurant ended up bringing complimentary dessert at the end of our meal instead for our longer than expected wait. 2. The bar on the front of the restaurant turns into a night club later in the evening. It is hard to have a conversation with the person sitting across the table from you because it gets very noisy. I would still recommend the restaurant to others."

"Food here is never that great... my favorite lunch item is the burger, but I decided to try something new. I got the meatball sub. NOT good. The cheese sauce on the meatball sub had the same appearance as cheese whiz... tasted better for sure, but still I thought it wouldve had a marinara or something more classic. The fries are always good though. My friend had the chicken sandwich and said it was SUPER greasy. Probably won't go back here for lunch. Dinner s good though. Not sure why they don't have a more similar menu to the dinner items."

"This is a total group outing where you want to have some drinks and chat it up. The dining room is very loud but most people seem to know that coming in. The food was good, but nothing that stood out. My wife made a point of saying that it is a "restaurant that thinks it is cooler than it really is." I felt that pinned it pretty well. "Host was not friendly. Restaurant was empty, yet he seated us right next to the kitchen - with a view to the kitchen door. We asked to be moved which he rolled his eyes.
Shortly after, he then sat a couple with a baby right next to us - the restaurant was still empty at that time. We felt this was done intentionally. Food was good. Flat bread and corn pudding were great. Did not care for the potatoes with the sauce(too much) and fried egg but had heard this was a signature dish so ordered it. The runner of the food was excellent as his timing was precise and smooth. His explanation of each dish was terrific and informative. Our server came off a little pushy. Told us what to order versus making recommendations."

"This past Saturday was our first visit and we've added to our list of favorite restaurants, and a must visit when we our out-of-town guests visit. The service was excellent from the time you walked in the doors, friendly, inviting and upbeat. The waitress knew the menu, helped identify best picks for first time visitors. Food was excellent, love the small dish sharing because it gave us all an opportunity to select somehthing and try something new from each plate. We highly recommend and plan to go again."

"We were a party of four. Went for brunch --- 11:30 am last Sunday.
The food was disappointing.....the chilaquiles were a heap of scrambled eggs tossed on top of a bunch of tortilla chips... Not much else. Not a thoughtful dish at all.

"This is the 3rd or 4rth trip to Tavernita for us.. I have to say, we were disappointed.. They said they changed their menu a bit.. we went specifically for the steak they have..it was NOT at all how it used to be.. cooking method has changed, quality of meat has changed.. we don't know but it definitely was NOT the awesome steak we had the 3 times prior!
The drinks are still stellar... it also seems like business is down, wonder if it's due to the menu..

"The food at Tavernita is wonderful. The portion sizes are ideal for sharing, and allow for a broad tasting.
The servers, on the other hand, are passive at best. Excluding the servers, the staff is attentive. The servers are indifferent. You may wait 3 minutes, you may wait more than 10 minutes for a server. Then, even if the restaurant is not busy, they are non-attentive and uninvolved.
The solution, I have found, is to dine at the bar, thus removing the servers as an issue."

"I brought some friends from out of town here for a bachelorette party. Although we had a reservation, we had to wait about 30 minutes, but management bought us a round of drinks to make up for the wait. The food was delicious and pleased everyone of my guests -- from the pickiest eater to the foodie. We even ordered a few extras of our favorite tapas. The drinks were also fantastic and unique. I highly recommend Tavernita for any size group."

Taverinta's bar, Barcito, is a great, fun place as well.

"The food was really good. The service was prompt and attentive. The cocktails were diverse and delish. The decor was imaginative, with table placed at the strange I between place of "not on top of each other, but almost needing to be a contortionist to exit the banquette". . The pork sliders were incredible. If I ate only those everyday for the rest of my life I would be happy. It was a little loud. I would have enjoyed having conversation at our table of 4 with out the need to yell."

"I went to Tavernita on a Friday night with a few girlfriends while our fellas were at a Bulls game. Upon arrival, I could tell Tavernita had all the elements of a happening place, which is always the kind of place I gravitate to...We were a few minutes late for our reservation, so I was a bit surprised our table had already been given away to another party, but that didn't dampen our spirits. We took to the bar, where our knowledgeable bartender took good care of us. We finally were taken to our table, which had a great view of the whole place. When orders were placed and food started arriving, I cannot tell you how pleased all of us were with the various dishes: colorful, flavourful, wonderful! Tavernita deserves its great reputation."

"The tapas here are wonderful. I came with a group of 7 friends and even though we didn't have 8 people, they allowed us to try the sharing menu. We opted for $45 per person option and tried a lot of different menu items. My personal favorite were the pork belly sliders, the meatballs, and the flatbread with ham. We also tried the steak tartare which was delicious (although I'm not the biggest fan of raw meat). The ceviche was also really good as well as the artichoke salad. I would recommend to go when you're feeling like spending (the drinks are pricey!!!)"
