"Pretty restaurant with doors that open to the sidewalk. Very pleasant hostesses. The menu was varied and the food was great. I liked the vibe and ambiance. The service was efficient but not very engaged. It was a nice experience pretty much all around. I would definitely recommend it but would suggest making a reservation."

"The Smith is a 100% reliable go-to neighborhood bistro. The food is very good, I especially like the smoked salmon eggs benedict at brunch. It's not outrageously noisy despite the subway tile walls .Always a good idea to make reservations in advance. I always look forward to a meal at The Smith."

"There was a private party in the back part of the restaurant so a dividing wall was put up. The party was fine but we sat against the fake wall and every loud voice in the place seemed to echo and intensify off the wall, making our experience less than optimal. Food and service was great as always!"

"Some dishes were better than others but overall very good. The noise level is very high but once you get into your own groove with your party you don't notice it anymore. The service was quite good and I really liked it and am going back next week with other friends. I would recommend it as well."

"An early weekday dinner for 4 of us was great. Nice, though limited, selection of craft beers on tap and wines by the glass was welcome. The variety of choices for appetizers and main dishes was good. A couple of us enjoyed the fried oyster sliders, and the steak salad was tasty and HUGE."

"Waiter forgot to put our order in. So after 45 minutes of not receiving the shirmp cocktail, we became concerned. We reminded him and miraculously it arrived ten mins later. Food was good however my friend ordered brussel sprouts which never arrived and the salmon tartar which arrived fullly cooked. That experience certainly left something to be desired."

"Took a date here for brunch. Service was great, as was the food. We both loved everything. My steak and eggs was unbelievably good as was the candied bacon. Highly recommend this place to anyone in need of a good brunch place. The ease of making reservations is a huge plus since the lines for walk-ins can get pretty long."

"Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the Smith. The restaurant was lively with a great bar as you enter. The food was lovely with lots of choice for all tastes. Service was good too even though the restaurant was really busy and the cost of the meal was very reasonable. All in all a lovely evening. Would thoroughly recommend."

"The Smith isn't a high end restaurant, but it's a cut above so many others. Great food, a good list of beers, extensive drinks menu, decent wine list, excellent service. And go ahead and place a reservation because it does get busy and sometimes tables are hard to come by."

"Had brunch eeservations for 6. We were seated promptly and the waitress was attentive. Most items were decent but two dishes had to be sent back to be cooked further ( eggs ordered cooked through we're runny, steak ordered well done was medium rare). Once properly cooked, Sicilian eggs with burrata was delicious. Oyster sliders had too much bread, too little oysters. Overall a decent meal."

"Have been here many times. Love the food. Don't miss the chips with bleu cheese to share. My only criticism is the noise level. It is difficult, at best, to have a conversation due to loud nature of dining in a restaurant where walls and floors are all tiles."

"Unfortunately due to extensive drilling and placing us on top of the drilling to start before we requested a move. Couldn't really think after that. The hostesses should have been more prepared for this. Service was somewhat absent though bus boys were great with water and bread. The waitress also cleaned up as I was finishing my food. The restaurant was half empty so I didn't appreciate being rushed."

"Went for lunch and getting a reservation was relatively easy. If we hadn't have had one though we never would have got in! This place was in full swing and rightfully so. My friend and I split the mussels and fries, tuna tartare, and jalapeno grits. We're both from the south and are usually grits snobs, but at the Smith they do them justice! I will certainly be returning for lunch and after work drinks."

"Love this place for brunch! Awesome neighborhood spot... my favorite has to be the vanilla bean french toast... their rancheros scramble is really good also, they give like a whole avocado - love it! free mimosas with select entrees, who doesnt want that? plus their fresh squeezed orange juice is really good also.. great crowd, wonderful waitstaff and super busy...reservations are recommended since its busy - i make reservations everywhere i go on opentable so i get points = cash! i think this place is good for kids, i bring my baby here and i see others bringing kids also"

"Our friends started us off at The Smith a month ago on a Sun, my wife and I have been back 2 more times on a Sun for Brunch. Last weekend we went on Sat, we did not look at the menu since by now we thought we knew it, on our previous Brunches on Sun. A drink was included, not on Sat. I don't understand why, everything else is the same, it is not the extra $10 per drink so much as we would have ordered different drinks if we had known that. Then from the time we were done with our meal, our waitress never came back, the table was cleared by the bus staff, after 30 minutes expired I had to get up and ask for our check."

"I brought a group of 13 business travelers to The Smith and was thrilled with our experience. Our server was fantastic- maybe a bit overcommited- but her recommendations were SPOT ON! Starters were great- not too greasy or pub-like. The noise level was as other diners reported- but okay for our needs. Even eating early (6:15) it was hard to carry on a conversation just 2 seats away- and supposedly we were in the 'quiet' room in the back- can't imagine what the bar was like. Pleasantly surprised with final bill- about $50/person- with plenty of starters, drinks, and even shared desserts. Overall great experience, food and service are what you'd expect in NYC."

"Good, solid brunch place. They are smart and only serve eggs one way to reduce wait times, but also get the impression it's very turn and burn - not the place for a leisurely brunch or conversation. We felt a little rushed - were in and out in 45 min and had two cocktails each, appetizers, and two entrees. Very loud - mostly tiled atmosphere enhances noise level. Be sure to have a res. they're very busy, and have a team of 4-5 hosts ready to seat the constant stream of guests (but too bad they don't have a friendlier greeting with that large of a front door team). Will try for dinner at a quieter time and hope the staff is more enthusiastic in their customer service roles when we return."

"The Smith is an institution in NY. Always reliable + always faithful. This was my first time having brunch there and I wasn't let down. Possibly the best home fries I've ever had. My girlfriend got the poached eggs + gravy over chicken sausage and spicy cornbread. Her meal was much better than mine which left a little to be desired. I wasn't crazy about my Fried Oyster Sliders. They just didn't do that much for me...I should have stuck with a burger! I'm not too upset though...it's probably one of their few failures out of the five times I've been there."

"Had brunch with 4 other people, great customer service, and food was outstanding. French toast is a must try along with egg white omelet with goat cheese. Smores in a jar was also great. A bit loud, but not unbearable."

"Fried oyster slider and jalapeno grits were the only things that were too salty... friend green beans, bone-in rib eye, and sauteed spinach w/ garlic were too salty! I actually ate chunks of salt, yuck!"

"Had lunch here with 8 friends. I chose The Smith because of location and reviews. Food was excellent and the menu was extensive with something to please everyone in our group. Our only complaint was the noise. With tile floors and walls the noise was really bothersome. It's pretty but not sound muffling. It's a busy place--obviously popular and the food is the reason. The noise is pretty ypical for Manhattan restaurants these days."

"This is a trendy restaurant but the service was outstanding. Our waiter was very friendly and not at all pushy or hurrying us even though we were pretty slow to order and leave (we drank a lot, that usually helps). The food was pretty good, not quite as great as I had hoped (maybe I ordered the wrong things and I think I was so full from the delish mac and cheese app and delish deviled eggs app, that I couldnt properly appreciate my meal). My trout meal was okay, but a little dry and a little heavy. My bf's pork chop was really good and all apps were delish. My favorite part was the smores jar dessert, that was amazing! I would definitely go back, loved the trendy but laid back vibe. Its a huge space! I recommend"

"The food at Sunday Brunch was fine; however, even on the early side (10:45am), the noise-level was terrible. We were a party of only two at a small table and had to basically yell at each other. The acoustics throughout are just too "live." Made for a very unpleasant dining experience."

"The Smith Midtown is in my neighborhood and I eat there at least once a week. Always fresh oysters, well cooked meals, nice cocktails, pleasant waiters and reasonable prices. Not a place to just drop by, even hard to get a seat at the bar if coming normal brunch, lunch and dinner times. Reservations are almost a must! The wine by carafe can definitely be better. Recommend choosing the bottled wines or beer rather than the carafe wine."

"Visiting NY for the weekend, we wanted a good brunch spot for us and two friends. We got exactly what we wanted. Great drinks (spicy bloody mary) and great food. We had a mix of breakfast and lunch staples and all were cooked perfectly, tasted amazing, and satisfied us greatly. Will definitely recommend and go back for dinner or lunch."
