Vivolo, the family name, long associated with fine dining and Italian cuisine, is located at 140 east 74th street, New York. Vivolo, established in 1977 by owner Angelo Vivolo, is nestled in a charming 1875 townhouse occupying two floors.
You enter into a rich English redwood paneled dining room and antique oak bar with a working fireplace. Ceilings beamed with dark wood create an overall intimate, friendly and romantic atmosphere. A "café" alcove offers several secluded tables or the perfect setting for dinners for 10.
The second floor of Vivolo has the look of a turn-of-the-century parlor with a gold leaf trimmed ceiling and working fireplace. The parlor floor is also a favorite for private parties.
"Had lunch with four friends at Vivolo after a Met exhibition. Food, service and ambiance were great. Would recommend to others. Think it would be particularly fun on a snowy night with the fireplace and dark wood paneling. Great find!"

"Another excellent dinner at Vivolo. Our party of 5 was seated in the enclosed front porch enabling us to enjoy a superb meal and lively conversation. The "Neighborhood Menu" was refreshingly priced with lots of good choices. Veal, vegetables, desserts all were first rate."

"Vivolo is typically a dinner spot, and a very good one. In order to attract lunch guests, they're running a fine value prix fixe menu. The food is good, the quantity a bit scarce, but suitable. Overall a nice lunch experience in a very good restuarant"

"We had always enjoyed going to Vivolo for many years when we lived in NY but moved away to Florida a few years ago. On a recent trip to NY we got to revisit Vivolo and were quite happy to see that it had lost none of it's charm, great food, service and a special mention for David the Maitre D who was very accomodating for a large group of 8. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant, you won't be disappointed."

"I work and live on the upper east side. It is difficult to find a venue appropriate for a business dinner where the food and service are good AND you are able to hear yourself speak! Vivolo was the perfect spot. I remembered their upstairs dining room (which is not always open, depends on how busy they are on a given night). When I arrived, the maitre d' was very gracious and seated me upstairs despite the fact that my table was the only one occupied at that time upstairs. My guests were very impressed--by the room, the service, and how accommodating the staff was to special requests re the food. Great choice."

"Really pretty townhouse. Very romantic, especially upstairs. Very warm and welcoming with good service and very good food and appropriate prices. Scallop and polenta appetizer was wonderful. Vongole with linguine, paccheri and meatballs was excellent. Ricotta cheesecake excellent and light. Wine by quartino was great!. My new go to Italian restaurant. Romantic as well."

"I recently celebrated my 50th birthday here with five friends. Although the restaurant was not told ahead of time that it was a celebration, they treated us like royalty. I had mentioned in my Open Table reservation that three of us were vegetarians, and the manager came over to tell us a list of dishes the chef could make for us. He checked in again throughout the meal, genuinely concerned that we were satisfied with our selections. The meal was well-paced, and all the selections delicious. See if you can get the pappardelle with mushrooms made especially for the vegetarians. Don't miss the sparkling dessert wine."

"I had the veal with a creamy risotto which was a special for that night. The waiter was extremely helpful and explained the menu in detail. Any questions my friend or I had were answered with a smile. The ambiance was very quiet and private. It would be perfect for a romntic dinner. Overall, the food and dessert were delicous and full of flavor. I would definitely be returning again."

"Vivolo is more than a Neighborhood Gem... The food and the service are exceptional. From the moment you enter and greeted warmly by the MD you are in a warm and inviting place. The waitstaff are terrific, too ! The food selection is diverse and everything is wonderfully presented and delicious. The wine list is varied in price and selection and the cocktails are expertly prepared. We love the French Martinis ! Both the upstairs and ground level dining rooms are nicely attended. You really do feel you are in a 'grown-ups' restaurant as the patrons are polite, well-dressed and happy to be at Vivolo for an outstanding meal and service."

"Reasonably priced for the area -- this is not saying much, since it's the Upper East Side of Manhattan -- but too expensive for the quality of the food, which was good but not great. Our wine, recommended by the waiter, was excellent. The atmosphere is charming, and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Still, would not have gone there (and would not go there) except that we needed a place right in that neighborhood, which, for folks who are not rich, are hard to find."

"The food was delicious although I found their portions to be on the small side for the price. We were there on an early Sat evening so the restaurant was pretty quiet but by he time we left say 8:30 ish it was bustling. The service was by far 5star. Staff was extremely attentive and accomodating. My only criticism would be that although we didn't have to wait, there is no lobby or waiting area should you have to wait for a table.....otherwise definitely check it out."

"Very good. My favorite place in the neighborhood for a quick, un-fussy dinner. Everything on the menu is good. All the food is very reasonably priced, as is the wine. My particular recs would be: baked clams, any special pasta dish, linguine w/ clams, and veal scallopine. Also, the spinach side is to die for, though probably not for the health conscious, and the brussels sprouts are also very good."

"Love this place! It is obviously a favorite of the denizens of the surroundng upscale Upper East Side neighborhood, but as out-of-towners, we are always welcomed just as warmly as the locals. The food is very good and reasonably priced (especially the pre-theater menu) and the wait staff is friendly and attentive, and not at all stuffy. We have tried many other NY restaurants but we always come back to Vivolo."
