The original Reata Restaurant located in the scenic Davis Mountains of west Texas offers the same fine dining and Legendary Texas Cuisine you can find at the Fort Worth location. Alpine, home to Sul Ross State University is near Texas tourist destination Big Bend National Park and the towns of Marathon, Fort Davis and Lajitas. Alpine is also a short drive from Marfa, Texas renowned both for the mysterious Marfa Lights and Donald Judd's Chinati Foundation.
Reata, named after the legendary ranch in the James Dean classic movie, "Giant", which was filmed in nearby Marfa, boasts the same high quality Southwestern dining you can find in Fort Worth. This is not food for the faint of heart, from Chicken Fried Steak to Calf Fries or the Pepper Crusted Tenderloin and Cowboy Rib Eye Steak, this is a dining experience not to miss.
"Dined here with a group of eight and everyone was delighted. Food was fantastic including some creative special requests and off the menu items - like quail nachos. Service was fun, prompt and very friendly."

"My wife and I recently dined at Reata Alpine in early April 2013. It was a gorgeous day in West TX and our 5:30pm dinner sitting was incredible. We chose to sit outside under a canopy of beautiful trees; the drinks were cool, the salads were indescribably delicious, esp. after a warm day of hiking. Our main courses were the Pork shank special and Reata's Carne Asada. Both were delicious. Our server, Missy, couldn't have been better; she was fantastic and friendly. Overall, a great experience."

"Enjoyed our visit - Reata is lovely with great atmosphere. Not a big place (10-12 tables, I think) - make reservation for weekends/holidays. Service outstanding (Emily S, our server, is juggling school, work & competition riding (just won her 36th or 38th buckle), yet was so cheerful and friendly that she made us smile lots). Food was mixed. We had soup (broccoli-cheddar and cilantro-jalapeño)- both outstanding: wonderful flavor and surprisingly light for cream-based. The cup is big enough for two to share. Had a ribeye and an asado special, and with both the meat was not the tenderest and had little flavor - not bad, not great (just the batch?). Dessert: house bread pudding - excellent with very delicious dulce de leche ice cream."

"Arriving at our reservation time, we were quickly seated at a very convenient table, by the very friendly waitress(Janice?). Our drink order was taken and filled quickly. We were given a few moments, and our food order was given, and our drinks refilled. We were one of the earliest to arrive for lunch, but the front room quickly filled up; I did expect a more formal dress, but noticed that casual to work clothes were equally seen. As more people arrived, more waitstaff "magically" appeared, indicating management's excellent concept of staffing requirements."

"We had reservations during lunch on a weekday during Spring Break. The restaurant was busy but our service was great. The staff was friendly and food came out promptly. The food was delicious and dessert was yummy! Still a bit pricey for lunch for definitely worth trying."

"The entrees were very good, but the desserts were amazing! We all loved the homemade tres leches cake and the chocolate chunk bread pudding tamale with mocha ice cream was heavenly! After eating these two, we bought the restaurant cookbook. We were just visiting Alpine, but we will be sure to go to the Reata restaurant in Ft. Worth since it is closer to home."

"The location and atmosphere is very nice. Service is very good. Food wasn't great. The carne asada meat was so tough, it was inedible and the soups need work. Burgers were good though."

"This is our favorite place to eat in Alpine and in Texas. We do always make reservations ahead of time when we know we are passing through. The restuarant is always busy."

"Alpine only has one upscale restaurant, not surprising for a town with a population of about 6,000, and this is it. We make an annual trip to Alpine and always go to the Reata for dinner our first night in town. The food is always good. This time the chile rellenos was a little heavy on the cheese stuffing and a little light on the rellenos side but the carne asada with enchiladas was top notch. The tortilla soup was also on the mark. Service was prompt and efficient but not as friendly as in the past perhaps because of the large crowd that night. We look top forward to our next trip to west Texas and the Reata."

"Reata proved to be one of the most outstanding restaurants we have been to. The food is amazing and our only regret was getting full! We are already planning our next trip to enjoy even more of the menu and ambience. The staff is friendly and attentive when needed. Highly recommend to anyone looking for fabulous unpretentious food!"

"This is a super restaurant. I've been here several times, both for lunch and dinner. No occasion has disappointed at all. It's rustic and western, and the service was superb. Our waitress was wonderful, giving refills before I even asked. I ate the chile relleno and got more food than I could eat. My husband ate a steak, and he said it was cooked to perfection. We topped his birthday off with the bread pudding tamale and tres leches cake...mmm..."
