"Serenade has always been our go-to special occasion restaurant...with us looking for excuses to go! This time though, I felt like I was paying a lot of money for very little, The food was tasty, but the service and ambiance ruined what was supposed to be a special treat for my mother for Mother's Day. No more tablecloths - just plain tables with plastic place mats. It's supposed to be a high-end restaurant, but without the tablecloths it looks more like a diner-bistro. Also, when I questioned something that arrived, the manager came over and was very gruff instead of friendly. What a shame - it used to be the one classy place I turned to over and over. Now...not so sure."

"The meal started out with great service but after a while we were left alone. We had to ask for more bread. We had to ask for more water and it was not easy to find our server. One desert was not what my guest had requested and it took too long to correct the mistake. Also we had to wait too long to pay the check."

"We've lived in Chatham for 6 years and It was our first time at Serenade but it certainly will not be our last. The food was wonderful and the service was impeccable. Had a nice calm romantic atmosphere. Great for an intimate date night."

"Lovely dinner with the in-laws to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday (dined 4/5/13). Definitely a great place that anyone who appreciates fine dining should try and enjoy. The asparagus soup was nicely light. Chopped salad had good bite, not overly dressed. Salmon exceeded my expectations. Coffee was good, but no second cup offered?"

"My husband and I have frequented this restaurant for many years. The food is always excellent. We had the tasting menu, called the Market menu, this time and enjoyed it very much. Each course was inventive and delicious.
Our waiter was fairly attentive in the busy restaurant. The wine list has improved over the last few months and we were very happy with a nice French burgundy. My only criticism was that we had to refill our own wine glasses as the waiter and sommelier were too busy. This did not ruin the dinner but it should be corrected for the future guests.
The food experience rivals meals we have had in Manhattan. Keep up the quality."

"I found the entire staff to be friendly and accommodating. The food was priced reasonably for an upscale restaurant in an affluent section of Morris County, NJ. I got the scallops for appetizer and sea bass for dinner. My wife got the fois gras and hangar steak. All dishes were prepared to specification and contained delightful flavors that mixed well in each dish. For dessert we split a brownie. A staff member came over and offered hot chocolate sauce. We were then surprised with a selection of free sweets.
All the food came out timely. My wife tells me that the staff asked a table next to us to quite down a bit. I didn't notice them being particularly loud. I didn't notice the staff asking them to quiet down either."

"We're never disappointed in Serenade. This time we had the seafood tasting menu with the wine pairings, which was something we hadn't tried before. It was perfection. The food, the wine, the service--we couldn't have asked for a better evening. We were concerned that having an early reservation time (6:30) we would be rushed, but we weren't at all. We have a nice, leisurely dinner and are already looking forward to our next visit."

"What a delightful experience! From the warm, exhubruant welcome at the front door, right through lingering over wine and dessert,Bravo. It was our first time at Serenade and their attention to details was evident everywhere. Although the friendliness of the staff did not seem to carry over to the bar tends. "We had a really wonderful meal, opting for the 3 course prix fixe menu. Our server, Michelle, as well as the sommelier, Charles, were very attentive and knowledgable.
We had a lovely, well-paced, truly enjoyable dining experience. All the dishes were beautifully prepared, from starters to desserts (especially delicious were the pea soup and the lemon meringue "tart.")

"Excellent restaurant without having to travel to Manhattan. The menu was very diverse with two tasting menu's, one with a seafood bent and the other was "beefy". The Thai lobster bisque was good but not as spicy or tangy as I had expected. The lamb was perfect, nice seasoning, cooked exactly as ordered with a nice potion of loin to go with the chop. The carrot cake desert with bourbon honey ice cream was also excellent. My wife had the foie gras and the lobster and was very pleased with both. A bit pricey but excellent wine selection. A nice cozy cottage with a unique but engaging seating arrangement. The waitstaff were as accommodating, attentive and friendly as any I have experienced in this area. Overall highly recommend"

"this was our 4th visit to serenade. it is always a pleasant experience, and delicious food but at times, the attitude of the owners is a bit hard to take. unfortunately it trickles down to their wait staff. although they are very attentive, everyone needs to loosen up-it's a restaurant not a board room!
btw-they need to change around the coat check area. we noticed when we checked our coats that is is located right next to the back door where anyone can walk in, grab a coat and leave. the coat check girl is not always sitting there keeping watch! we requested our coats be placed in a back secure room."

"I dined with my girlfriend on Sunday and the ambience was perfect. The food was very good and the presentation, service was top notched. I only had one problem was the recommended special....I asked the maitre d on the choice between the filet or the prime rib...he suggested the prime rib. It was fatty and grainy. Very tough. The flavor was perfect and cooked to perfection, the meat was disappointing. We also ordered the yellowfin tartar. That was excellent, perfect portion and the very fresh. They were very accommodating. I would definitely come back."

"Our experience at Serenade was absolutely lovely. It was a Wed evening, and 4 of us who had never dined at Serenade met for dinner. The staff in the bar and reservation area were wonderful, polite and very professional. The Bar popcorn was very good, and every one of us enjoyed our meals - from the Foie Gras, tomato soup w/black truffles, to the octopus and tarte. Our entrees were just as lovely, duo of braised short rib and hanger steak, sea bass, lobster and lamb. Of the desserts, the chocolate tart was oh so yummy, and that of the cobbler, cream brulee. The banana split was nice, but the popcorn in it was the delightful. I would highly recommend."

"We have frequented this establishment for about 6 years and enjoyed every meal there. The restaurant is consistent in its service and its food quality. The food is delicious. We enjoyed the market menu this time and really enjoyed each course. We highly recommend it for a special occasion. The staff are very pleasant and professional and the sommelier is knowledgeable about French wines which is nice to find in New Jersey. We highly recommend this restaurant and cannot wait to return."

"We went to Serenade for dinner the Saturday after Valentine's day hope to avoid a special pre-fixe menu. But we didn't, they extended it through the weekend.
Although most things were on the menu, I was not really our desire to have a 3 course meal. The foie gras was excellent and my husband had the grilled octopus, a little salty.
I ordered the rack of lamb med rare, the waiter recommended because chef tends to go a little rare. There was one chop med-rare and then the loin was going towards med. And it was served on a bed of brussel sprout leaves and was missing what was described in the menu.Sorry I don't think brussel sprouts are good on a date. My husband had to cut into the middle on his steak to find med-rare, but it was medium."

"The service was not their usual excellent service; our water glasses did not get filled enough and we were never asked if we wanted more coffee. It was crowded and extremely noisy.
I got the sea bass and it tasted a little fishy. And I would have preferred a scallops appetizer that was not breaded. The other 3 in my party enjoyed their meals."

"This was my 5 th time dining at Serenade. The only major disappointment is the food was rushed, we no sooner finished our appetizer and they were there with the entree. At a fine dining retaurant I should not have to ask them to pace the meal. This has happened here before, which is disappointing. In addition, I ordered the lobster and it was overlooked, also disappointing.
Our waiter was good, but we actually had to ask for more wine vs. it being offered. I will probably not return, it was not worth the money."

"We went for Valentine's Day. Headline: Confiscatory pricing!!! $125/person, no alcohol. There was nothing special about the menu. No flute of champagne; no rose for the VD honoree. Very ho-hum, for a price that will get you in and out of some of the country's very finest restaurants. I found a glass chard on the table cloth, only inches from my plate. All i got was a perfunctory "Sorry". No choice of first course; no choice of second course; six choice for main course. Really uninspired. We felt totally taken advantage of. We had been fans of the place, but after this experience we'll not likely return. We had a FAR SUPERIOR meal two nights later (also a VD menu) for only $75/person. Really inspired menu and execution. The Blue Morel!!!"
