"We enjoyed a most relaxing & delicious Sunday night dinner with another couple from out of town. Our server (Jimmy) was most knowledgeable & helpful with information about the menu selections! All entrees were delicious and extremely well presented on a Sunday night at 7PM. We would recommend the wonderful relaxing indoor ambiance as opposed to outside.

"A lovely evening for outdoor dinning; passing trains are very noisy, but part of the atmosphere! Our dinners were extremely expensive, although outstanding. It's an "a la carte" menu which adds up quickly, making the total a shocker. The wine pour was too little."

"Dine at Maynard's 4 or 5 times a year; always exceptional. Went the other night on our wedding anniversary. The primary waiter
w/out energy & seemed distracted. We expected a small baked of mixed breads with pesto garnish, or olive oil & balsamic, etc. No so. Had to ask--twice, like it was an odd request. "I'll see if I can find some bread . . ." When four small slices of a baguette arrived, it came salted. When the waiter was asked to add a baked potato to the main entre--response: "We don't have baked potatoes." Found some (oversalted) fries that came with the dinner but at extra cost. For a $150.00 bill, c'mon. All waiters, but one, wore white shirts that looked dingy & baggy; gives an "I don't care" message. Same of Mgr. +."

"It's wonderful fun to sit outside and watch the trains go by. WE do this every year with friends just before leaving Tucson for the summer. But unlike past years, this year the food was just ordinary: the bouillabaise had too much saffron, drowning out all the other tastes, the burgers were overdone (ordered rare), and the sea bass was full of bones. WE had to wait an hour for our food to arrive. A disappointing farewell to TUcson."

"We had reservations for 7pm on a Sunday and were seated immediately. The place was extremely loud with conversation. By the time we had finished, the place had emptied out and we could actually hear the music (great american songbook stuff), which was good. Service was only so-so. Waiter spent most of the time we were there ignoring us and talking to a man at another table. Our drinks ran out, he never checked back to see if we wanted more. He didn't say who he was and he acted like we were an afterthought. The sea bass was beautifully presented and very tender but had absolutely no flavor. The pork shank was stringy. Great wine list."

"The food was great, but I didn't care for the seating for our group of 6. We had to wait for the waiter to finish talking to the table next to us because we couldn't get into the booth until he moved. Two of us were crammed into the booth which wasn't acceptable for the type/price of food and the establishment."

"My husband and I were staying at the Congress Hotel and heard about Maynards being a great place for a romantic dinner. Service was fabulous, our server (from Germany) was spot-on the entire night! The ambiance was wonderful as well. We arrived at 7:45 and were able to listen to the duet of musicians play until 8:30. Noise was a little loud because of the music but fortunately, it was good music and we could still carry a conversation at the table.
My only critique is that my husband's steak, which was pricey (about $36.00 a la carte) was tougher than anticipated for the price. There was gristle around the edges as well. This was the only disappointing part of the meal. The cornish hen dinner was delicious and I'd highly recommend"

"It was an anniversary night out for the misses and both of us left very disappointed. First off the service was very slow, after ordering a cheese sampling my pairing wine arrived 10 minutes later. For dinner I ordered three entrees, and they took so long I had to request them to go as we had tickets to a show. When I made my reservation I figured 1.5 hrs would be enough time to eat before the show, but I was mistaken. The insult to injury of my dinner-less night was heating up the leftovers the next day. In the bags was only two of my three entrees, meaning I paid for food I did not receive. It was a terrible experience and it enraged me enough to leave a poor review."

"This restaurant was a find. I just looked in the 3A travel book and looked for something downtown. It sound fun and interesting. Both my husband and I enjoyed our dinners. We would recommend this place. Unfortunately, we do not live in Tucson, AZ.
The only negative was the road construction going on the area. Street lighting was poor so it was difficult finding your way around. Signage was poor. Hopefully the construction will be finished someday and everything will be back to "normal"."

"Everything about Maynards is excellent including the food and service. However, the lower dining area is way too noisy with the type of music and volume of music. My wife and I could not carry on a conversation. The squeaky violin was especially annoying. My wife had to turn her hearing aids off because the the noise from the violin was grating to her. We are music lovers and were having dinner prior going the Symphony at the Music Hall. Keep the music soft and resonable for all not just the young who are used to noise called music."

"Three trout specials and a filet mignon came to our table. The trout was outstanding.With its size it could have been mistaken for a very mild piece of boneless salmon. The accompanying garnishes were tasty and interesting. The fillet was cooked just right and the flavor was quite good,but there was just a little gristle. "I wish I could call Maynard's a neighborhood gem but it's far from my neighborhood. However, when I go downtown to a show or special event Maynards is my restaurant of choice.

"Maynard's for lunch was especially good. The day was quite cool and a bit wet, so we chose to sit inside. The restaurant has kind of a "French" feel to it. Our server was attentive. The onion soup was quite hearty and delicious. My friends chose the little pizzas. They found them tricky to eat, but very good. Whole vegetables needed some cutting, and maybe slicing the pizzas in half would have made them a bit more manageable."

"The service was great! We checked in and were escorted to our table right away. The staff was super friendly and very knowledgable. They made accomodations for my three little children for mini pizzas and noodles. They made chocolate milk for them and made them feel just as important as the other eight guests. The servers was very prompt with refills for both non-alcoholic and the wines. The food was fresh and amazing. Each guests thought it was absolutely a great place to celebrate our special occasion!"

"From what i gather, this place aims to please…the hostess was absolutely accommodating on a very very busy night, put us into a seat pretty promptly even though our reservation had changed if you tell them you are on a time frame they really do time it right for you, we got our food super fast, very attentive and you really could taste the freshness as well as trust that it was indeed a farm to table type of restaurant
I really enjoyed my experience there but the FISH special really nailed it, portion and flavor really knocked it out of the park!"

"We had been to Maynard's about a year ago and found the food quite good, so when friends from out-of-state visited, we thought it a good choice for dinner. We liked taking them downtown and remembered how much we liked the the decor/ambience. Sadly, the food did not measure up. I was thrilled to find cassoulet on the menu (haven't seen it anywhere else in Tucson) but disappointed with the dish; it was virtually tasteless, except for the sausage which had a weird herby taste. Perhaps I was expecting too much--the last time I had the dish it was in Provence. My husband said his fish was "very average." Too bad, 'cause it's a great-looking restaurant. We'd be hard-pressed to return."

"We dined at Maynard's for Valentine's Day. We both chose the prix fixe selection and added the foie gras starter. The Rielsling gelee absolutely made the foie gras. The salad served for the dinner was serviceable. The surf and turf combo, sous vide filet and butter poached lobster, were both high quality but I thought the lobster was a bit rubbery. The cake served with the desert was a bit dry but the flavor was spot on. And again, the accouterments on the desert, a bit of pine nut brittle, really made the dish."

"This is a classy restaurant in downtown Tucson; one of the higher-end eateries in the area. However, the particular meal I ordered may have biased me slightly against the place. The mussels were good, but I enjoy those served at Janos' Downtown Kitchen+Cocktails better (the chorizo and bread served with the mussels are delicious there). As for my entree, I had the special that featured the sea bass. Again, it was good, but I would stick to ordering such a fish at Kingfisher on Grant Rd. the next time. Looking back, I should have ordered the pork shank.
Though it may have been my choice of order that impacted my impressions, likely the next time I plan to spend $100+ on a dinner for myself and a date, it will be somewhere else."

"I always try to visit Maynards when visiting Tucson. The location is unique and I'm never disappointed by the food. My guest had the pork shank which she loved and I tasted the chicken for the first time. Both meals are unique in their presentation and made another dinner at Maynards definitely worth the trip. The service was terrific but not overdone and we went away very happy."

"We had another delicious meal at Maynards on Valentine's Day. The PNW oysters-on-a-half-shell appetizer were extremely tasty and fresh, per usual, though not inexpensive at nearly $3 each. The fish special, a striped sea bass, was exquisite, though it was also pricey at $37. The wines-by-the-glass were high quality and the waiter was extemely knowledgeable thereof. The wait staff continues to improve at Maynards. The creme brulee dessert was top-notch, per usual. I would recommend splitting because it is large. For us, Maynards ranks in the top tier of Tucson restaurants. We would dine here more often if it were a tad less expensive."

"I really like Maynards and highly recommend it. We have dined outdoors when they were booked up. They have heaters and will accommodate you if it is cold. The trains roll by which is a novelty. We were just happy to get to eat, so I liked the option. I prefer
the inside by the window. You step down into the train-car feeling dining room. We go for atmosphere and there is a good vibe here.
No awkward tables or feeling like you can't request a window if you have a reservation. That is a big bonus considering we have that problem with other restaurants in Tucson (Dakota and Acacia). Great food and chef experiences although we didn't do the chef experience I'm sure it would be special."
