Jamestown FiSH features fresh, locally harvested, seafood and produce artfully prepared by Executive Chef Matthew MacCartney. He is happy to suggest the perfect wine pairing for each menu item from our extensive selection of fine wine from the world's most respected vineyards.
"We love dining in Newport and Jamestown and decided to try Jamestown Fish. Restaurant is conveniently located and nicely decorated. Everything from there on was downhill. 10 minutes to get a drink, and they got it wrong! Service was slow, really slow, and un-attentive. Extra bread never arrived, no explanation. A very large and noisy party was seated in the midst of duos and fours, so you could not hear anything. Food was slow to come. Lobster in my Jamestown Fisherman's stew was under-cooked. Portions were moderate to small. Never saw a manager, or anyone inquiring as to our dining satisfaction. At the end of the day, not worth the trip, with so many better options."

"A true Rhode Island experience, from the view going over the Jamestown bridge, to the best fish and seafood available. Knowledgeable servers; preparations that let the fresh ingredients shine. Love the dorade on the bone."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Fish - it will definitely not be our last! From the pleasant service to the gorgeous presentation, and not least the amazing food, our dining experience was top-notch. We would love to come again in the summertime when the outdoor patio and bar are open. The restaurant does not have a freezer so everything is made fresh - a detail that was not lost on us! The swordfish and halibut were tender and delicious. (And the homemade mint ice cream was to die for :) While we will probably be saving a repeat visit for a special occasion, we are definitely looking forward to it!"

"We were greeted on a busy Saturday night by the chef, who asked us to wait while he completed a lengthy and what sounded like a personal phone call. Odd that a staff member feels comfortable talking on the phone while guests wait for their table. We stood there for several minutes while he chatted on...It was so incredibly rude that I felt like turning around and leaving. Finally, a waitress approached us and asked us to wait in the bar while our table was prepared. Food is ho hum. Nice waitress. The appetizers were fine - raw clams, mussels, followed by the salami plate, but the swordfish main was dry and tasted overwhelmingly of cumin. Accompanying cannellini beans were mushy and overcooked. We won't return."

"An extremely adequate wine list pairs well with an unbelievable menu! My wife took the opportunity during Newport's restaurant week to make it to quite a few restaurants to compare. Jamestown Fish was the absolute best. Fresh ingredients, great waitstaff, and very unique dishes which are the perfect balance between new and classic. It was refreshing to dine in a place with a name like Jamestown Fish, where "fish" is not only done right, but taken to a whole new level! Great experience!"

"Appetizers excellent. Entrees mostly well prepared but very very small portions. Atmosphere is really nice, fresh, simple, blue and white and a great stone fireplace. Very small selection of fish. Usually at a fish restaurant you would have a greater choice of grilled fish seasoned variably. The linguini with clams contained excellent al dente cooked pasta, but a limited amount of shaved clams, no little necks on top and it was very salty. However, this place has a lot of potential. The bonte for dessert was an unusual pudding/cake, chewy with filberts and just sweet enough. Loved it."

"Dining at Jamestown Fish was an absolute delight. My boyfriend and I (from Providence) found out about Newport Restaurant Week near the end and picked Jamestown Fish as our one shot at participating in the week, and boy, were we pleased with our decision. I was thrilled that the chef was able to craft a delicious vegetarian dish based on my preferences, and my boyfriend was impressed by the waitress' disclosure that the kitchen doesn't even have a freezer, other than a small drawer for ice cream, because all of their seafood is brought in fresh that day. The presentation was beautiful, the decor gorgeous and simple, service abundantly helpful, and food absolutely amazing. This is a great find."

"A couple of my California friends decided to visit this weekend for a spring vacation in Boston, and stayed with me down in Middletown. I introduced them to Jamestown FiSH as I rave about this place quite often. With the start of Restaurant Week, we were delighted to see the 3-course Prix-Fixe menu, and I was eager to impress my guests.
The notable highlights was watching them savor the Cajun spiced scallop appetizer, the mozzarella and prosciutto, and the clams and linguine. My friend actually admitted it was some of the best scallops he's ever tasted, with just the right texture and slight hint of after-spice at the end. I'm always glad to bring in new customers to the Jamestown FiSH crew, and love watching them leave happy."

"Dined at Jamestown fish for brunch recently and had an exceptional time! We were sat at a table that looked out on to the bay on a bright and sunny Sunday. It was early enough to order breakfast items (11am) so we ordered the brioche french toast and pancakes which we were lucky enough to be able to have chocolate chips added to. The french toast was light and fluffy and you could tell they used real maple syrup! We ended the meal with cappacinos and coffee and a quick tour of the drool worthy kitchen. What a fabulous morning . Cannot wait to enjoy brunch outdoors on the patio this summer."

"This is my second visit to Jamestown Fish and I really enjoyed it. I had the "Uncle Joe's Eggplant" as a started -- interesting, but a bit too vinegary for my taste -- followed by the Skate, which was done in an Italian preparation -- very good. The best appetizer for my group was the sardines, which got rave reviews. Love the decor and the service was excellent. I would have said 4 1/2 stars if that had been an option."

"Learned of the restaurant on line . Made a reservation. Given a table near the kitchen. The waiter was actually the bartender who spent his time tending to the bar which preoccupied his time. As a result of my table was often neglected. The waiter was however well-informed and enthusiastic but the service was not good. With that said, the physical plant was very attractive and the food very good. We will return to the restaurant one more time. Should the same wait staff service occur again that will be the final time however I don't believe that will happen since the place attended to detail."

"Fish took last-minute Brunch reservations (via OpenTable),and confirmed the evening before. My first time there. We had a table for 6, which included my 5-year old grandson. Although Fish did not have any booster seats/high chair (I'm thinking it is not suited for children generally), but they were overly accommodating and gracious. The service, food, ambiance was excellent. I would definitely go there again."

"Bit disappointed that we were not told that the shrimp and crab first course was missing crab and the shrimp were raw, especially since one of our party is pregnant and cannot eat raw seafood. The linguini and clams was way too salty. The sole, lamb chops and dessert were good."

"First time visit and Jamestown FiSH was superb in every regard! Reservation for 2 at 7:30; table wasn't ready on a winter Saturday night so we had a drink at the bar upstairs. We were seated 20 min. late with multiple apologies and offers to move us next to the fireplace shortly (we declined). Caesar salad and the Chef's Crock Pot of local lobster, scallops, shrimp, huge mussels for my wife was a hit. I had the signature RI Chowder which was smooth and complex without enrichment. I was surprised to see Pompano on the menu, roasted whole, served simply over spinach with a light lemon butter sauce. It was better than in Florida where pompano is local. Chef lets the freshness of the ingredients shine. Our waitress was informative, friendly."

"Dinner at Jamestown Fish was a perfect end to a blustery, wet winter day. My wife and I arrived as the days'smenu was hot off the press. We set close to the warming fireplace. Server was efficient, attentive and friendly. Hot, tasty homemade bread started the meal. My scallop(on cauliflower puree)appetizer was cooked perfectly. Server treated us to a tasty eggplant appetizer. The Jamestown Fish Pot was loaded with seafood in a remarkably sumptuous broth. Our homemade desserts (Gingerbread cake and Coconut sorbet)and fresh coffee ended the evening nicely. The chef took the time to check how we enjoyed the meal."

"My boyfriend and I went to Jamestown Fish for Valentines Day. We were seated near the fireplace. We ordered the cuttlefish appetizer, which was very good. I liked the eggplant puree, but I wasn't very fond of the harissa in this dish. For our entrees I ordered the sea scallops, which were fabulous - beautifully seared and just the right amount of saltiness. The potatoes were delicious as was the broccoli rabe, which was extremely tender. My boyfriend ordered the salmon, which was seared. However, he did not like the addition of cumin to this dish. We were also happy to be visited by the chef during our meal. The service was very good, and our server was very pleasant and attentive. We opted to skip dessert. Overall a very lovely meal."

"Small, intimate and comfortable dining room; well appointed and with an understated elegance. Excellent, creative and well conceived menu selections. We arrived at 8and they were out of two main courses, the shrimp dish and 10oz ribeye steak. An 8 oz filet was available as a substituted for the ribeye. The fish soup appetizer was non-descript. The scallops were large (U-10), perfectly prepared, well presented and enjoyed with the dollops of a green vegetable based sauce positioned in intervals around the plate. My fiend immensely enjoyed her herb encrusted tuna steak. The wine was delicious, by the glass. The dessert was a delicious (gluten free) chocolate soufflé. The staff was knowledgeable, warm, and superb."

"If you are looking for piles of mediocre food and Doggie bags, this is not the restaurant for you, But if you want to enjoy a superb meal and presentation that rivals any I have tasted, run to this restaurant. The Chef came to our table to ask how things were going; rarely done now, but always a nice touch. Very inventive menu. Our appertizers of sauteed cuttlefish, raw scallops with sea urchin, and entrees of Jamestown Cook Pot, and herb crusted Tuna were prepared and presented perfectly. Can,t wait to return to sample more of the Chef,s cuisine. 5 stars for sure. A great Restaurant"
