Spigolo is an Italian-inspired restaurant on the Upper East Side of New York City. Opened in January 2005, Spigolo has gained acclaim from both devoted customers and restaurant critics. Influenced by his masterful incorporation of seasonal ingredients, Joseph D'Angelo's menu represents a culinary union of contemporary American cooking and traditional Italian cuisine. Spigolo is known as much for its warm, intimate atmosphere and its welcoming staff devoted to attentive service and genuine hospitality, as it is for its food. Come experience Spigolo for yourself.
"I have been dining at Spigolo since it opened under the Frantangelos. Over the past few months, after a new chef took over, I have found the food to be over-salted. I am disappointed."

"Spigolo is an excellent restaurant. I don't give it five stars only because it is not as lavish or elaborate as NYs more upscale restaurants, but the food is impeccable here. Delicious sliced, cured meats, meltingly tender pastas and gnocchi, perfectly cooked fish, beautiful vegetables. Terrific cocktails as well. This place is a gem."

"we met friends for dinner near their apartment on the UES; inconvenient for us coming by train into Penn Station. we ate early so the small space with hard surfaces never became noisy since most table were still not occupied. The service was fine since I had no requests. My husband needed a bread refill and there was no offer after our main course was served; he was disappointed not to be able to mop up his pasta sauce. On the positive side, the food was very well prepared and I liked the fact that pasta could be ordered in half portion size. The prices for a basically neighborhood store front are kind of high. However, if I lived in the neighborhood I would return."

"Our server was only adequate. Here, and elsewhere, the servers pop back to the table, interrupting the conversation to gratuitously ask how the appetizers, the entrees, the desserts are. The diner, who has barely picked up a fork, is left to respond gratuitously, very nice, great, etc, while thinking "Go away!" It's too soon for any real criticism, which no one wants to hear anyway--more like begging for compliments."

"The server seemed far more focused on a neighboring table that were clearly regular customers. He was borderline obsequious to them, and marginally attentive to us. The food was impressive, though."

"On the recommendation of a friend, I thought I'd try this place after a late afternoon visit to the Metropolitan Museum and Neue Galerie. The decor and cordiality of the staff immediately impressed me and the menu certainly appealed. Spigolo did not disappoint. The plates were superbly presented, the service was perfectly attentive and the food was exquisite. One minor fault, not unique to this place, drinks and wine are overpriced, but I will definitely want to return.

"Total disappointment . I unfortunately ordered the salmon and even for me ( I am not a big eater) the portion was minuscule. How can they have the nerve to charge $28. 00 00 the salmon entree? . This is another overrated and hyped up east side restaurant. My husband and I returned home and had a sandwich. Shame on u !"

"We did the tasting menu paired with wine, which was amazing! The chef came out personally for each course which my husband loved. The restaurant is small and intimate which we liked; we are definitely planning on returning soon."

"This was a good choice for Valentine's day. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. The meatballs are special as is the pasta. The salmon was less so, but acceptable."

"Creative cooking - delicious results, warm atmosphere, slightly too noisy for quiet conversation; because of size, must need tight reservations schedule - earlier diners aware of next diners waiting for seating, thus implied and subtle pressure to move on; completely understandable as necessary."

"Friendly, unpretentious and the staff are available but do not hover. Even in this small, intimate space you can feel as if your dining party is the only one."

"Very good food, but expensive considering the ambience. $100 per person including tip and tax and wine and dessert, but for pasta and salad, it seems high; but definitely the food is high quality and prepared with care and delicious."
