Verde Mexican Kitchen & Cantina celebrates the rich culinary diversity of Mexico by drawing upon traditional flavors and authentic ingredients to bring modern Mexican cuisine to Pittsburgh. "The food was outstanding and the service was exceptional. We started with guacamole and a trio of salsas. They were all just right. My wife and I also ordered two flights of tequila to go with our apps which exemplified the difference between everyday tequilas and the unusual selection that is available here. The entrees were unusual, tasty, and well presented. The dessert was a wonderful Latin take on apple pie with cinnamon ice cream that alone would bring us back. The waiter, Kevin, was attentive but not overbearing and provided us with everything that we needed. We were able to course over selves and did not feel rushed. Verde might just be my new favorite. I am definitely going back and you should try it too."

"This was the first time that we went to Verde. We were lucky to find street parking right outside the restaurant.
The food was excellent, as was the service. Our waiter was particularly good, with his meal and dessert recommendations.
There was not too much that my son could eat however! It was hard to find something that would suit his 9-year old palate. I like that restaurants are doing away with the Kids Menu with its bland generic choices, but maybe they could introduce "mini-portions" of regular menu items for kids and portion-conscious adults.
All in all an excellent experience, and I will certainly return."

"I was eager to go to this restaurant because I had so much about it. There is a lot that I disliked:
1) The acoustics of the place are horrendous and make it incredibly loud. You cannot expect to eat and carry on a conversation. You have to eat and get out of there as quickly as you can -- that is probably what the owners want.
2) Do not even think about ordering a michelada: These numbskulls will literally bring you the ingredients and expect you to mix them in your mouth.
3) The menu is restricted and weird. I wonder if they had a chance to consult any mexicans.
4) They only have hot sauce from bottles.
5) The beans are dry and old.
6) It is highly overpriced."

"Service was ok, waitress wasn't very attentive, had to remind her if our appetizers, table next to us were also constantly looking for her. Food was very good except for what they consider Spanish rice, tasted more like Rice a Roni w ketchup, but rest of food was very good."

"This was my 2nd visit to Verde. I LOVED my first. I did not love this time. It was a wet/cool spring week night. The restaurant was FREEZING! We wore our raincoats during our meal. All tables there fall victim to the door breeze and no heat was on. Service was SLOW it took forever to get our meals and because of that, we were filled up on chips before food arrived. And I was unhappy with my food choice. Menu didn't describe well enough and I didn't ask enough questions. I didn't eat much of it. The soup was excellent, though. Since I've had one good and one bad visit I will go back again. But with so many awesome spots opening around town it won't be anytime soon."

"I have been to Verde multiple times. It is not very good. Every time is worse than the time before. Never order anything that has fish in it. I would guess that Verde will be closed in 6 - 12 months. I am only reviewing the food. It is very poor.
The only reason I go is for the atmosphere. It is very good. I also like the drink menu. The service has always been very good. It is a shame the food is not better."

"Very good (and very spicy)food. I liked my fish tacos and sangria a lot. Not at all the standard Tex-Mex menu of many Mexican restaurants--much more interesting. My only complaint was that when I walked in I felt somewhat assaulted by the noise--it quieted down by about 9 or 9:30, but wouldn't be a great place to be if you wanted a serious conversation. If you're up for fun and laughter, go for it. Service was friendly but not graceful: slow attention by the maitre d who then assumed that three of us waiting for him were together rather than asking, a waiter who was inclined to take our nachos while we were still waiting for the main course. Still, I'll go back"

"Fantastic food - everything from the elotes (corn on the cob)to the enchiladas de pollo to the craft margaritas were amazing! In addition to the everyday menu, Verde also offers special of the day soups, tacos and tamales. This was our first time visiting, but not the last. Thanks for the great birthday experience!"

"As always my Sunday brunch was begun with friendly and knowledgeable service.
The house Margaritas are top notch. The guacamole was fresh and delicious. I had the brisket and sweet potato hash which was excellent. The corn and plantain biscuit and chorizo gravy are really enough on their own. Looking forward to when the patio is open for an alfresco brunch."

"The food was good. So are the drinks--when you could get one, that is. Our server Matt was excellent. Matt nobly tried to excuse the bartenders' failure to get us our drinks in less than 20 minutes plus by pointing out that one bartender had "called off." However, neither the bar nor the restaurant was crowded and the bartenders were not busy. After waiting nearly half an hour for a drink, I went to the bar myself. The bartendress curtly told me that she would be with me "in a minute." After two or three of these "minutes," she walked to the other side of the bar without taking my order and began to salt a margarita glass. Nice place in some ways, but never again."

"Verde keeps getting better each time I go. The menu offers plenty of variety, with some options being stronger than others. That being said, it seems as time goes on each item improves as the kitchen strives to perfect everything they offer. I can't wait for my next visit. Now on to the food: two words - Taco Tuesday. If you haven't been yet you need to be. It's a fantastic deal & the tacos you choose from (4 in all) are each tasty in their own right. My two favs were the fish taco (best in town?) & the taco with fried chickpeas. The house marg is out of sight and the desserts continue to be solid (but not quite great yet). The ambience of Verde is OK. If you are looking for a lively time try sitting at the bar. Bottom line - 2 thumbs up!"

"We came for my mom's birthday, and all had a great time! Some of the picky eaters in our group weren't thrilled with the authenticity and unique flavors offered (they'd probably eat a hamburger and fries everyday for dinner if available), but the rest of us loved the menu selection as well as our food when it arrived! Our waiter was very nice, as well, and was happy to accommodate alterations to the dishes (for instance, I'm vegan, people wanted sauce on the side, etc). I had come here back when it first opened and wasn't very impressed, however now it seems they have gotten all initial kinks sorted out and I'd definitely recommend Verde to others!"

"The staff was very friendly and helpful! We were a party of five that suddenly grew to seven. On a very busy Friday night were able to find a table to better accommodate our group. The shift in waitstaff was handled wonderfully. All of our food arrived on time, to the correct person, and our drinks were always full.
The only complaint we had that night was about the price of the soup special - $30 for a bowl of soup with some fish and crayfish in it. It was a surprise when the bill came (special prices are not listed). This was my third trip to Verde and won't be my last, but we will be more conscious of meal pricing."

"After waiting an hour after our reserved time, we were asked to close our bar tabs and someone would be back to seat us. We waited another 15 minutes before another hostess informed us that our table had been ready for a while. We took our seats and ordered. We waited 40 minutes for our guacamole before flagging down out waitress to remind her. It came out right away. However, it arrived the same time as our meals. Before leaving we asked to see the manager. She insisted that she had been involved in the entire process, we had not been waiting that long, and we had come early for our reservation. She took the guacamole off of our bill and offered dessert- but at that point, we had been there for almost 3 hours and were exhausted."

"We went for dinner on a Thursday evening, 6 PM reservation. 4-5 other tables being used and we were shown our table promptly. This was the only thing that happened as it should. Waited for our waiter to discuss daily specials and drink order roughly 15 minutes. Ordered an appetizer which finally arrived almost 30 minutes after we had say down. 60 minutes later our dinners were still a no show. Other tables had been seated well after us were eating there dinner. At this time we had enough and told them we no longer wanted our dinners and left. We should have went to Dinette which is just around the corner. Owners and chef should get a real job but this is an epic failure."

"4th or 5th time to Verde. Food and cocktails are phenomenal. Service is quite sketchy. I say this regarding only 1 waiter, Cass. I almost want to ask for a different server if he is assigned to our table. Poor service truly does have a large impact on the experience. Our experience with Cass on two occasions has been identical...extremely unattentive and extremely slow...EXTREMELY. Other waitstaff on multiple occasions have been well above par."

"I like Verde. Overall, the decor, service and food is decent. The margaritas are pretty good (a little too sweet for me) and during warm weather, the outdoor patio is great.
That being said, it's a bit price-y by Pittsburgh standards... it was around $9 for Guacamole... really???
The food is pretty standard Americanized Mexican fare, but not as good as Cantina down in Lawrenceville."

"My wife and I were looking for a fun, local place to get together with 5 friends that we haven't seen in a while and, what better place than Verde to meet!?
We have never been dissapointed and this past Wednesday was no different.
The margaritas were perfect, the service was excellent and some of the new menu items were wonderful - I highly recommend the empanadas de conejo (rabbit empanadas) and the mac and cheese with chorizo.
It was a first time visit for our friends, but each gave rave reviews and promised to return.
We'll be back soon...with more friends!"

"Went here for a date and our evening was delightful. The food was simply fantastic. I had the chicken mole and my boyfriend had the taco of the day, a roasted pork loin taco. Both were superb, however I definitely preferred my chicken. It was roasted to perfection and the flavor of the mole was spot on. The ambiance was very good; I loved the decor. Our only issue was that we were seated by the door and it was very cold. I do understand that we came at a very busy time so this was not a big deal. Our service was good but not outstanding. Again, it was so busy that I was not overly bothered by this."

"I thought the food was great at Verde, but the server kept pushing the alcoholic beverages--he mentioned them at least twice after our party had already said we weren't interested ESPECIALLY because the margaritas are $9. Other than that, the food was really good. The restaurant was a little noisy, but if you're with a group of young people that shouldn't be a problem."

"we had an awesome server Namoi she was super friendly and yet not overly bubbly we went on a Sunday for brunch and each of us ( a party of 4 ) each got something different and sampled each plate before digging into our own plates and YUMMY is the only word i have for the food even my super picky son cleaned his plate of eggs benedict !!! would go back again and again"

"First of all our waiter was great, he seemed to love his job and was very good at it. The food was delicious, I had the night's special of Smoked Brisket Tacos and was so happy with my choice, they were fantastic! Everything we ate had really good flavor. We were meeting up with some friends that we try to get together with every few months, so we had some catching up to do, and although the place was full and energetic we didn't have a hard time talking or hearing each other. I had heard some mixed reviews on this place, so I'm really glad we tried it out for ourselves. The food, the waitstaff and the atmosphere were great! I can't wait to go back. Oh, and the Tres Leches Bread Pudding with rum sauce was brilliant"

"There seemed to be too many managers buzzing around the place. I feel like we spoke to too many people. Also, I could only get a 5:00pm reservation, but when we left around 6:45 the place was still mostly empty. Not sure why that was but I left feeling a little jipped."

"Took a group of 6 and we had an awesome time at Verde. Dinner was tasty though our server seemed to be having an off night, not telling us the specials, asking an odd assortment of dietary questions, and serving my friend a dish he didn't order. We all still mostly enjoyed our meals. It was at the bar that Verde took it over the top. Our bartender, Cory, was extremely knowledgable about all of the drinks and provided an after dinner energy that we all needed. The bar itself is beautiful and provides for an excellent atmosphere."

"My wife and I have had the pleasure of dining at Verde several times recently and have truly enjoyed ourselves each visit. The atmosphere is relaxing and inviting, the service is excellent and the staff is upbeat,friendly and knowledgable. Some of our favorites of Chef LBEE include the tomatillo salsa, queso fundido with chorizo (to die for), elotes and the carne asada with chimichurri which was amazing. And...if you like tequilla, this is the place for you, as they have the largest selection in the state. Verde has quickly become one of our favorite spots and one which we plan on frequenting on a regular basis and introducing new friends to. Keep up the good work."

"The food was excellent. We tried a lot of different things and everyone was very pleased. The service was excellent, too, until we tried to get the check. It seemed that everyone had disappeared. We waited over 15 minutes before we found someone to ask. Up util that point I was very impressed with the service. A big negative is the noise factor. It is almost impossible to hear the person sitting right next to you. We were with a small group and it's very annoying when you can't talk to your friends. I really encourage the management to do something about the sound issue, because we loved the food and would love to return."

"My wife and I went to Verde for brunch recently. We had a wonderful time, the sangria was some of the best I have ever had, the margaritas were excellent, and the service was superb. The first thing my wife ordered, the pancakes, weren't to her taste, so she ordered something else. We told the manager we did not need to have it taken off, it certainly wasn't the kitchen's fault, it just was not a dish for her. However, the maanger still took it off, saw to us personally and our waitress continued to make sure everything was to out liking.
I had the chorizo biscuits and gravy, and it was amazing.
The margaritas were not our favorite in Pittsburgh, but they are still some of the best.
We are going back with friends next weeke"
