"Came for a graduation dinner with my family. Nice staff and location and kitchen was able to come up with something for my picky little sister (pasta). Had a great time."

"The restaurant was empty, which was nice for our conversation ... but kinda eerie having. The service was slow - which was odd, since there were only two parties in the entire restaurant. The food was inconsistent. Two of the five people in our party enjoyed their meals, while the other three thought the food was either poor or fair... "definitely not worth the $$$$". The lamb was just OK, the suckling pig was flavorless, the fish was small, but yummy. The house-made pasta was not worth the calories - it was drowning in a flavorless rich cream sauce (even though we requested a light sauce - no cream!)"

"We shared a nice green salad, potato-leek soup, pasta appetizer, and rack of lamb plus two desserts. Everything was very good but the lamb, ordered medium, arrived rare, though still tasty. A glass of nice syrah seemed a bit skimpy in the pour. If not for these disappointments I would give five stars across the board."

"This is my favorite ladies lunch destination . Julia's reflects the luxury and ambiance of 1930's. The food and service is impeccable. The desserts are out of this world in presentation and taste. I have brought girlfriends to lunch who are grieving a loss parent , one who is leaving her marital nest and another who entered into retirement. Great sorrow or great joy should bring intense hunger - not abstinence from food, as our novelists would have it. This place will amaze you ."

"We spend the night at the Berkeley City Club and had a 6:30 reservation for dinner for 2. We got there early and they were very accomadating and allowed us to sit early. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgable about the menu. The food was fabulous! We started with the grilled sardines and scallops for appetizers. The main dishes of beef tenderloin and lemon ricotta cheese raviolis were outstanding. We finished we Lavender ice cream which was a perfect end to the eveningWe went back to meet the chef, Chef Aloun, who was very friendly and gracious. I have already recommended Julia's to my family and friends and can"t wait to get back to see what other creative and delicious items will be on the menu."

"I kept reliving my experience at Julie's the next day - the meal there was just wonderful. I had a fava bean salad as my appetizer and the swordfish with pesto and spinach as my main. They were both extraordinary! I want to return to Julie's soon."

"Dinner was amazing and fit for Foodies. The food is prepared with care and creativity. Scott was our waiter, he was very helpful. Small but excellent wine list. Julia's is located in an elegant, historic gem. Leisurely dinner, must have reservations. We live out of town but we will return."

"I finally found a great restaurant at Julia's where I don't have to compromise between good food, wine, and atmosphere. The food is worthy of Berkeley, the wines are a quality mix of Californian and European (from Kermit Lynch, you can't go wrong), and the location is not like anything else in the Bay Area. If you are an architecture fan then you must go to the restaurant named after Julia Morgan, located in one of her charming buildings. This is a place where you can actually hear the people talk at your table and the staff is friendly and relaxed. I'll be back often!"

"Sitting in Julia's beautiful dining room is transporting. My Petrale sole and my partner's lamb chops were each cooked to perfection and delicious with great visual appeal on the plate. The service was solicitous and warm without being invasive."

"We were so pleasantly surprised by the amazing meal we had at Julia's. It was our first time dining there and weren't really sure what to expect since the banquet food at the Club used to be pretty bad but this new chef has really turned things around. It's our new favorite place."

"Julia's is the new restaurant in the Berkeley City Club. It is not the typical club dining room it used to be, with brown food, stumbling service, and hours set by the staff's desire, but instead has become a truly fine place to dine before the theater in downtown Berkeley or Cal Performances on the UC campus. The food is imaginative, delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented, and the service is professional without sacrificing friendliness. The club has retained the decor decreed by Julia Morgan when she designed the City Club and continues to feature elegant flower arrangements. Best of all, the tables are set far enough apart to facilitate civilized conversation."

"Food was very nice, presentation visually appealing. Portions on the small side. Acoustics a bit difficult, with so many hard surfaces in the room. Just right for having a meal before a show at CalPerformances. Staff need a brush-up on the history of dining at the Berkeley City Club. On the whole, Julia Morgan would surely approve."

"I am a foodie and I was so impressed. We were four and we ordered eleven different items off of the menu and each one gave us a new experience. The waitress was delightful and so proud of the opening of this restaurant just a few months before. Located in the historical Berkeley City Club, Julia's is not named after Juila Child but after the first female CA architect, Julia Morgan. She was the architect who designed the building in 1929 and it is now open finally to the public, The foresight to put a wonderful chef in a unique space is a gift to the culinary enthusiasts. The wine list was perfect with many lovely wines by the glass also. Creative food and sensational sensations on the palate."

"Food was good, portions really too small for the price, especially in the vegetable department. 8 peas? Limited selection. All that said, it is a lovely place to dine, once inside the building."

"The elegant room and the delicious food is a plus but please be warned that the tip of 18% is included in the price! There were 2 of us and we missed this fact so we tipped our waiter 38% in error! Our waiter was good but it made the dinner too expensive. I called the restaurant in hopes that they would fix this for us but they did not even have the courtesy of returning our call. Such a shame that the customer service did not match the rest of our experience."

"I felt compelled to write a review because I was disappointed. We were handed a "special" menu with little choice and much cost at $60 per person. Final bill was $180 which I don't mind paying as long as it is worth it. The portions were tiny. It was a 3 course meal and each dish was "a la carte". We were surprised that gratuity was automatically added to the bill... aren't we supposed to decide how much we liked the service? If this place wants to have repeat customers, they need to change their business practices and be extra careful with menus and their billing."

"Julia's, in a beautiful historic hotel designed by Julia Morgan, is in its "soft opening" phase. Enter the building, and time stops for awhile. The restaurant itself is romantic; tables are set with with bouquets, ceilings are high, and lights are low. The waitstaff are charming and decidedly in-stuffy. The olive bread, in a warm assortment sent to the table, was addictive, and the salads were excellent. Mushroom risotto was flavorful, signifying a good broth, but needed a bit less stove time. A scallop dish was impeccable, and the trio of desserts we sampled revealed the chef's apparent passion for, (and skill at), the pastry station. A wonderful change-up from the buzzy, small-plate feeding-frenzied Bay Area eateries."

"It's an elegant room on the second floor of the wonderful Julia Morgan building. We (there were 3 of us) loved our appetizers - the scallops are done perfectly, the endive salad was excellent, as was the squash soup. I had the steak for a main dish - not a usual choice for me, but I'm so glad I chose it. Really excellent beef. My partner had the squash risotto. The service was excellent - a good balance between hovering too close and not paying attention to us.
After dessert, we wandered over to gawk at the swimming pool in the building. Not a typical restaurant feature, but Julia Morgan was an extraordinary architect and that pool is amazing."

"This beautiful little architectural gem is a great spot for dinner before a performance at Zellerbach. The wait staff was fabulous. Unfortunately the food was pretty forgettable -- nice food, quite good, in fact, but I've already forgotten the menu. Hardly any vegetarian fare. I asked for a plate of vegetables for my main course (after a tasty orange and fennel salad, with a lovely light dressing) which was good, but much more butter and salt than I like . . . but delicious nonetheless. I wish the menu offerings had been a bit more adventurous, but the dinner was perfectly acceptable. The wine list wasn't huge, but some nice offerings -- but only 4 by-the-glass choices. It could be so much more!"
