"Five of us arrived for dinner on a Sunday evening. The service was great. Everyone sampled a different item on the menu. The food and wine were wonderful. I like veal and ordered this for my selection. It was good but I enjoyed the other selections more. We will come again. I recommend C'era Una Volta as a great neighborhood gem."

Review 2 for C'era Una Volta

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"We really want to like this restaurant. This was our second visit. For some reason service is lacking. Our first visit we arrived right after they opened and were the only patrons at the restaurant, yet our waiter disappeared many times for lengthy periods without checking back with us to order our meals/dessert or replenish drinks, etc. The same thing happened this visit. The food when it finally arrived was good but if you don't have 3 hours to spend at a restaurant, you should go somewhere else."

Review 8 for C'era Una Volta

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"My husband and I went here for V-day. We decided to make reservations there because their special v-day fixed menu looked really good. The waiters were all very friendly, but by the time we got there at 8:00pm they had run out of half of the items on their special occasion fixed menu. We had no choice but to get the replacement items which were all vegaterian and seemed to be quickly thrown together and really didnt taste all that great. However, we were still charged the $50 per person for the more elaborate fixed menu items."

Review 11 for C'era Una Volta

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"I was not as impressed as the last time (NYE), service was Ok, but not outstanding, since it was Valentine's Day, I was sort of expecting that. Most of the food was very good, but my main course (seared ahi tuna) was pretty bland and tasteless. They do get a free pass because the ambiance is great and the music was beautiful."

Review 12 for C'era Una Volta

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"We went for the special Valentine's dinner. I had an on-line coupon which made the fixed price dinner a little more affordable. The four courses were absolutely wonderful, mine and my sweetie's. We left quite satisfied.
Can't rate the wine list, as I didn't look at it. Just had the prosecco that came w/ the dinner.

Review 16 for C'era Una Volta

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"The restaurant was listed in the "romantic / intimate" category, but it was a bit bright and open and kid friendly to really qualify as a romantic spot. The food was great - especially the antipasti - but the service was a little spotty. We arrived ten minutes late for our reservation, and were seated at the bar, though the restaurant was not at capacity. It was fine, except that we did not get served by the bartender until we were seated at out table, about ten minutes later. The staff seemed distracted by several tables with children who were sort of crawling all over the place. We would likely return for a meal with our kids, or for a quick bite before a movie - the theater menu looked yummy."

Review 20 for C'era Una Volta

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"I went for brunch and wasn't impressed. Perhaps their traditional Italian is better, but my experience wasn't much to talk about. In fact, we ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes and 1 was too burnt to eat on the bottom. They plated it burnt side down, we took 1 bite and had to send it back! We ate the other one- it wasn't good. They offered to make another order but we declined. They charged us for half the order. Heads up! If you like lemon ricotta pancakes- go to SOMERSET in Berkeley!!"

Review 22 for C'era Una Volta

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"We had a lovely New Year's Eve meal here, with great, attentive service & delicious food!! We were seated promptly, received complimentary flutes of Prosecco, & were delighted with the vegetarian-friendly menu. The dinner itself was delicious, & food was brought to the table in a relaxed but timely way, & then topped off with fabulous desserts. There was so much food that all in our party took home most of our "secondi" plates (they made for a delicious lunch the next day), but we are not complaining - it was all great."

"The owners love of their work is keen reflected in their warm smiles and attention to the details. The caesar salad, Rudy's chianti meat sauce on top of any pasta, the lamb stew with polenta, and the bread dipping sauce with homemade mustard, are noteworthy. The dining room is beautifully appointed with soft colors and lights. When I dine here I feel like I am a long way from home and my everyday life, and that I am a most important person."

Review 26 for C'era Una Volta

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"We had a superb New Years Eve dinner at C'era Una Volta - a broad choice of Prix Fixe items, a special wine list - notable for its wide choices of 1/2 bottles and especially notable for great match recommendations along with the menu. My wife and I are frequent SF weekenders at events ,both cultural and gastronomic, and also travel abroad at least twice a year both to Europe and latin America where we have extended family. We both agree that this was one of the best Italian based presentations and wine combinations we have ever had. We had with us as guests dear friends and their beautifully behaved 3 year. She received special attention even by the Sommelier!! Every dish was "right on". We return soon !!!"

Review 33 for C'era Una Volta

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"We had invited friends for Thanksgiving. We had not eaten there before. We arrived early hoping not to be a problem. We peeked in, and there were many people enjoying themselves. The staff were able to seat us early and were most gracious. The dinner menu was detailed on the web site, so we knew what to order. One owner-partner greeted us as if we were having dinner in her home. The food arrived: the antipasti with cured beef was a treat. The plates of soft and crisply cooked vegetables remind us of dining in Tuscany. The meat platters with turkey, lamb and beef provided a choice for each preference. The plate of dressing and mashed potatoes provided the traditional touch. The deserts were outstanding. We will definitely return."

Review 36 for C'era Una Volta

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"I had a great time at C'era Una Volta. The lunch we had was delicious and so was the dessert. All the tables were well spaced out so it didn't feel like we were overcrowded. The staff was very friendly and perfectly attentive. The live music added the cherry on top - it wasn't overpowering and definitely completed the wonderful atmosphere."
