"Great meal and service on Fri 5/10 celebrating birthdays and Mother's Day with my son and my elderly parents. Our waitress was super friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. She even went above and beyond without our asking- secretly securing 2 candles in our 2 desserts because she could tell we were there to celebrate."

"My husband and I were in neighboring Newburyport for the day and hoped to find a place that served a Raw Bar but came up empty. Using Yelp, we decided to visit Jumpin' Jays Fish Cafe. It was fabulous. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable and thoughtful. We liked the combination of funky decor and upscale cuisine. We appreciated the menu choices and especially loved the smoked calamari in the Raw Bar. Sourcing local ingredients is another plus. Already we have both recommended JJFC to our friends & co-workers. We will be back."

"The portions were adequate but the food was terrific. I, of the small appetite ate my whole meal and was satisfied but I think that the rest of my party could have had more. Tthat, after munching on bread and olives and baked garlic, and drinking cocktails before our entree was served, and then sharing a hot fudge brownie sundae among the four of us for dessert with coffee and in one case a cappucino after dinner.
Service was excellent and our table was ready for us when we got in.
What more can I say? It was a totally delilghtful evening."

"We couldn't get in on Sat, so we went on Sun--turned out in our favor. We really had a great time. Not the first time I've been there--but the best. The meal was really excellent and the service was spot on--not overbearing but attentive. Would highly recommend."

"We went for a Friday night dinner, in a city that has a ton of good restaurants. This one is a few blocks away from the center of town, but it was a lively scene, many happy diners. Started with oysters on the half-shell, a mix of PEI varieties. Twelve shells came out but only 11 had oysters on them, but they happily replaced the missing mollusk. Entrees were excellent, such as the lobster carbonara. Overall, a great find and we'll certainly come back."

"The atmosphere lacked a theme and reminded me of a modernized Art Deco design. It was nice that the restaurant was separated into many sections because the noise level was high but it was isolated to your small area. The entrees were intricately yet uninspiring as there was no complementary mixing of flavors or textures. The service was responsive and very attentive; they were also personable (not remote). My wife and I did find a few things to try and in all enjoyed our visit. We will probably experiment with other restaurants in Portsmouth instead of a return visit"

"The food here is amazing! We had the Fried Oysters appetizer, & they were the best we have ever had anywhere. I tried the Thai Green Curry special, & I would come back for that dish alone. Our waitress Meredith was wonderful. She was attentive, friendly and knew the menu well. The only reason we didn't give service 5 stars is because when we arrived, we had about 10 minutes to wait for our table (we were early), so we went to the upstairs bar for a drink. We were the only 2 people standing there. The bartenders ignored us for the entire 10 minutes. One of them stood right in front of us talking to waitresses, sorting her checks and never looked up at us. It really started our night off on the wrong foot. Our server Meredith saved the night."

"I had an excellent dinner and waitress. However, my entire experience was ruined by a very unpleasant and rude hostess. I was seated at the window, at 7:00. As the sun went down, the glare was awful. So I adjusted the shade next to me. Then the car headlights were right in my line of vision, so I asked the waitress to adjust the blinds at the next table. Suddenly the hostess comes running over, opens the blinds and tells us that the other diners, and the people outside need the shades open! She was very rude.

"After hearing good reviews about the food my friends and I decided to give this restaurant a try on a Sunday evening recently. I'm glad we made reservations ahead of time. Busy place, even for a Sunday! Soon after we sat at our table, I realized why it is so popular. The food is wonderful. The atmosphere is just okay, not special, but the food and service was well worth it! We will definitely make this place one of our favorites."

"Can't say enough of the wait staff and the food was amazing!!!! Can't wait to return! We also went on a Tuesday and Jakes offered Shuck a Buck Oysters! I think we could have made a meal on oysters but the menu was to good to pass up! Two dozen oysters would have to do until next Tuesday!!!!!"

"The drinks and food were great. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived; which was no big deal...we were able to get a drink at the bar without waiting too long. However, our server seemed a little annoyed and in a rush. She wasn't very attentive and actually bordered on being rude. We've been to JJ's before and always had a good experience. But maybe because it was Restuarant week things were a little less unorganized and I'll think twice about going again especially since there are so many wonderful restaurants in Portsmouth to choose from."

"Arrived at reserved time and we were seated immediately. Very nice ambiance. Had asked for a seat near a window and we had a lovely table by the window. We did not realize it was restaurant week but was informed at the hotel we were staying. My husband chose off the special menu and I had haddock piccata. Everything was wonderful. Mussels were wonderful and fresh, salad with gorgonzola was wonderful. Haddock picata was very tasty. My husband enjoyed his fluke. We both tasted each others as well and agreed both were really good. We normally do not do dessert but the key lime pie was the best. Wine and beer lists were long and choices were many. I enjoyed my cote de rhone."

"While the food was really good, the service was pretty substandard. Maybe because we were tucked away in a little corner near the bar. We got our appetizers in a reasonable amount of time but then we waited quite a long time for the entrees. Our waitress ( Morgan?) disappeared so we weren't able to get an update on why it was taking so long. When she finally appeared, she asked if we were ready for our dessert! When I told her we didn't even have our meal yet, she sprang in to action. I was afraid that the food would be cold, but thankfully it wasn't. We asked for coffee with our dessert, but she forgot to serve that. The next time we saw her was when she presented us with the bill. In total we were at the restaurant two hours."

"This restaurant is in the city of which I live and I always wanted to try it. On Friday evening 04/05/13 my husband was at Jumpin Jays Fish Café for his 50TH B-DAY celebration.

"Awesome - Awesome Food, Drinks, Service. I love this place. First time and it won't be our last time. Reasonably priced... wonderfully fresh seafood raw or cooked to perfection. Chef caters to Dietary Restrictions. Waitress also very imformed of what is in each dish. Everyone pitches in to help waitress. This place is a GEM. I'm sorry that it took us so long to try it. No disappointments here... all is very YUMMY. Casual Dining and don't be afraid to go as a group. Very comfortable atmosphere. Now, one of our favorites."

"This was my third time dining here and it gets better every time. The food is amazing and cooked perfectly, don't have to wait longer than 10-15min for it to come out on even busy nights. The service was also really great, took us a while to decide on the wine and meal but our server was patient and very helpful in answering all of our questions thoroughly about both the food and wine. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice dinner with great seafood"
