Carmelo's Ristorante Italiano - Austin
Carmelo’s Ristorante Italiano, Austin, is located in the historical "Old Depot Hotel" downtown across from the Hilton. Open since 1985, Carmelo's, was recently awarded the Seal of "Ospitalita Italiana" from the Italian Government for our use of authentic Italian products and the preparation of genuine Italian cuisine. We have created a menu that is not only carefully thought out and authentically Italian, but also one that uses the finest quality beef, veal and poultry and the freshest of seafood, and when available local produce. With an extensive wine list and options ranging from an award winning Risotto with Truffles, a tableside cooked Steak Diane and gluten free, vegetarian and vegan fare it is our aim that everyone will be satisfied. Our delectable desserts include homemade specialties such as Tiramisu and Millefoglie. Come on by and experience a little bit of Italy tucked away in downtown Austin! We are also in Houston.

"The customer service was absolutely superb! The entire staff was very attentive to all of our needs, constantly making sure our drinks were never empty. I never had to ask for the check or where the restroom was, just by a look on my face there was someone there immediately to help me. The food was delicious and matched up to the level customer service perfectly! I had the fettuccine mare luisa, which is fettuccine with a cream sauce with shrimp, crab meat, and clams, it was phenomenal, and not incredibly over priced at all."

"Great mothers day brunch. Excellent service from the time we reached the door to the time we left. Great atmosphere and decor im the courtyard for those who love to take photos. Live low key musician gave our daughter a wonderful and serenade of a Italian song from 101 Dalmatians. We will patron this spot again."

"A lovely dinner with my sons and their families. In 1992 we came upon Carmelo's when our son began his education at the University of Texas. As I looked across the dining room, the times we have shared came alive including his wedding rehearsal dinner about 7 years ago in their private dining room. The ambiance and service, the Bisteca Diana, the dessert card are established and will hopefully remain. New memory shared with now... grandchildren and our other son's wife. Love this restaurant!"

"I've taken a lot of people to C's over the years with no disappointments from anyone. Great ambiance, decor and the wait staff is about as impeccable as you will ever experience. Great food from start to finish. Pricey, of course, but well worth it in my humble view when you really need an escape from the fast/junk food nation.

"Staying in downtown Austin for the night and needed some place to carb-load before running the Statesman 10k race. This was a couple blocks from our hotel and got great reviews so we booked a last minute reservation and decided to try it. It was fantastic! I am not a big pasta person, especially out at restaurants but the food here was FULL of flavor and cooked to perfection! We were very impressed by the nice staff, good food and romantic ambiance! It was perfect! Will definitely go here again."

There is valet parking available for those who don't want to wander around, looking for a parking spot. The ambiance was old world Italian - there's also a nice outdoor seating area & water feature.
The food was great - we ordered the lobster bisque, Ossobucco, & Gamberi Ripieni. Everything was really good - the Ossobucco was exceptional! Flavorful and super tender paired with great risotto - it's a keeper!
The only 1 exception to make this 5 stars... no diaper changing station.

"We ate here during SXSW, mostly because my local friend had been here years ago and liked it. It's a throwback to the "fancy" Italian restaurants of yore, upholstered chairs, Italian decor, and Sinatra music playing. Good news is, food was better than expected. I am a light eater, so the caprese salad and beef carpaccio were a perfect dinner, both very tasty. I had a bite of my friend's chicken parm, which was very tasty and properly cooked - I've had MUCH worse. Hub's pizza was kind of thick for me, but tasted good. The service was friendly and attentive but disorganized. Drank a barbaresco from LaMorra for $75 which opened up nicely. Can't say I'd go back."

"We had friends in town and we wanted to impress them so we decided to bring them to Carmelo's and boy were they impressed!!! Our waiter was on top of everything, we couldn't of been more pleased with the attention we were given!!! "Visited tonight with friends after a long while away and found the restaurant is as good and just as beautiful as ever. It was a very busy night but our waiter was still able to be very attentive especially towards my guests gluten free requests. The ambiance of the restaurant is fantastic and only seemed to get better as the evening went on. Everyone's meal was perfect with the snapper and the veal osobucco bieng over the top in both flavor and presentation . Needless to say I look forward to my next visit!!"
