Chote Nawab is restaurateur Shiva Natarajan’s latest culinary addition to Murray Hill. Chote Nawab quite literally translates to “Little Prince.” The Nawabs of India, mainly in the city of Lucknow, were very much the foodies of their day, known for their elaborate royal kitchens, hospitality and of course their Kababs. Chote Nawab features Kababs from Lucknow and “dum” Biryani from Hyderabad, which is cooked using a sealed pot technique to maximize flavor. The menu also has regional dishes from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Chote Nawab combines modern design elements, such as concrete walls, with Indian themed murals to create a contemporary, yet warm ambiance, which is a reflection of its in-house spice blends and authentic culinary style.
"Chote Nawab has the best combination of food, service, and ambiance in this part of Manhattan for its genre. I discovered it while walking with a friend several months ago, and I have been back to entertain with many different friends and colleagues."

"Not a standout - perfectly fine food - but not much better than less expensive neighborhood offerings - nicer surroundings however. Kind of pricey for the quality actually comparatively (100+ for 4)"

"Good food, but okay service. It was extremely noisy (granted it was a Friday night). We were asked to promptly leave after paying our bill. We had lefts over and requested them to pack it - got home and realized they packed 2 entrees (one non-vegetarian and one vegetarian) in one container.."

"Went for lunch and ordered off the Lunch Menu. The prices were great for really high quality food. The ambiance is a pleasant attempt at hip (or something). Our waiter was friendly and helpful.
I will definately go back."

"Excellent dinner. The food was very good and the portions were very large. We had more food than we could eat. I found the cost to be fair for the quality of the food. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return when I visit NYC in the future."

"this is fast becoming my favorite Indian restaurant in Manhattan. The staff are attentive and friendly - everything can be made to the heat you want it, and there are some really interesting items on the menu."

"The food was delicious, from appetizer to dessert - the naan fluffy & fresh, the spicing of dishes subtle & effective (we tried several from vegetables to goat); the desserts sweet without being cloying - & the service was pleasant and attentive, neither slow nor rushed.BUT... it was more than a little annoying to be asked to vacate our table the minute the bill was paid. Yes, this was at a peak dinner hour, but it was also a weeknight, & other tables were open. This is the sort of thing that puts a restaurant on my B list, however good the food. There are too many good restaurants in NYC to patronize one that doesn't view every diner as a potential repeat customer - the best kind to attract."

"I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who like Indian food. The menu includes both standards at most places and some dishes I had never seen before. My table ordered a variety of dishes. which ranged from good to delicious (okra, a chicken with ginger entree.) The service was attentive, though we felt like we were being rushed at times -- for example, about two minutes after we received our menus were asked if we were ready to order. The design was a bit funky, which is a plus in my book, and the general atmosphere lively. It is noisy, but not overwhelming food."

"This was a disaster. My party was sitting way in the back and told the waiter/host that they were waiting for me. I was in the front and I told them I had a reservation for a party of four and was waiting. No one told either of us that the other was there and because the restaurant has a strange shape, we never connected. I was very annoyed."

"One of the best, if not the best, Indian in New York City. Friendly service, nice atmosphere and truly sensational food. Tasty, flavorful and authentic dishes. Reasonably priced. A gem."

"It was great. The Kori Gassi was a lot lighter in spice than we had anticipated so the Chicken Vindaloo overpowered it to the point where mid-meal we could no longer taste it. The haleem was more like khichra because it had whole chunks of lamb. I felt it needed a little more ginger.
The complimentary rose for my partner was very much appreciated. I would definitely give this place another shot. And I might even call direct next time so that we can spare them the OT fee!"
