With Arun's innovative Chef's Designed Menu, Arun ignites the rich and inexhaustible traditions of Thai cooking with his own imaginative flair. Arun's offers subtle spicing and intricately balanced flavors in striking presentations. The Chef's Designed Menu is prix fixe degustation, in which the chef presents series of dishes as a "tasting menu", tailored to the preferences of each diner's preferences and to market availability. Our waitstaff gauges the customer's adventurousness, tolerance for spicing, dietary restrictions, allergies and aversions. This degustation showcases Arun's understanding of authentic Thai flavors, fascinating textures, captivating forms , especially his sense of the delicate balance of savory and spicy, light and rich, tender and crispy if not to mention temperature and aroma.
"I was disappointed in the food. I'd been looking forward to going for years since they were mentioned in 1000 places to see before you die. I'd consider myself a novice foodie. I've also been to Thailand and while the food was authentic and way better than the small Thai take-out places, Aruns did not come close to Rick Bayless' Topolabama or any of Emirils restaurants. We asked for the spicy version of the food and half way through asks them to kick it up a notch but found the food to be well cooked and tender yet blander then we would've liked, especially the main courses. The appetizer portion of meal was better. The main chicken dinner was overly salted. The wait staff was great, explaining the food, great recommendations on wine"

"The appetizers were excellent and beautifully presented; the entrees not as good. The staff did a great job explaining each dish, and also of tailoring the dishes to each of our allergies, tastes, sensitivities and preferences. The ambiance is lovely, though the restaurant was virtually empty on a Friday night, which somehow detracted from the experience. Overall somewhat disappointing, especially at the prices they charge."

"Arun's is always a treat although this, our sixth visit, was not the best. We went on Valentine's Day for the 12 course dinner and had a very nice time. The ingredients are always fresh but some of the combos were not very tasty. The staff is very pleasant and helpful but this time a bit forgetful and slow despite there not being many in the restaurant. We sat too long without service twice, but as we were not in a hurry this did not ruin the evening. None of the dishes were a morire until the final dessert, and this was disappointing since in the past at least one entree was memorable. The wine list remains well chosen and well priced, but limited. I was a bit surprised by the jump in price ($125 a piece). We'll be back but not immediately"

"For all the hype, the food was really not that great. A few dishes really stood out (coconut soup, vermacelli shrimp), but on the whole the entrees were a huge disappointment. I've had better Thai Basil Chicken at the takeout place around the corner."

"Superb food. Pri Fixe dinner. Pricey, though. Good for that special night out. We had long heard about Arun's but were thinking "It's Thai food. We like that but could it really be that special at this restaurant?" Well, it's not really "just" Thai food. It is Asian-style food that is really terrific and not just a neighborhood Thai restaurant, as good as they may be. I would say that after Alinea, this may be the best food we've had in Chicago. As I said, pricey (about $250 for two with drinks and tax), but not in the range of Alinea and some other places."
