When brothers Ash and Rajiv Gujral planned a new Indian restaurant, they wanted to create neither an ultra-formal dining room nor a tiny hole in the wall venue. ROTI Indian Bistro marries casual, contemporary styling to classic Indian cuisine. Designer Susan Gujral created a warm, modern space with dramatic color, light and imagery that portrays the rich aesthetic essence of India. The chefs take diners on a culinary tour of India, offering a taste of the North in the Tandoori meat dishes and hints of the South in the vegetarian curries. Fresh breads are available from the tandoor, a mesquite- fired clay oven unique to Indian cooking. Local and organic ingredients blend with traditional Indian spices to create a diverse fresh, menu. ROTI prides itself on the dining experience - at this popular new addition to the vibrant West Portal neighborhood, refined customer service from the attentive staff and fabulous food have established a higher standard of dining for the area.
"Lovely quiet dinner.Delicious Bhindi masala, rice with seafood, mango lhasi. We were celebrating my friend's birthday and received a free yummy dessert."

"My favorite Indian restaurant in the city. The food is scrumptuous and the ambiance is perfect - from the lighting to the decoration, the quietness, and even the capacity of the place."

"Perfectly cooked Chicken Tikka--moist inside, seared beautifully outside. Same for the Onion Kulcha. Always love the smoky flavour of the Bengen Bharta--eggplant--yum. Service is always super no matter which waiter/bus person combo one gets that night. keep up the great food and wonderful ambiance."

"I thought the food was not very authentic indian, but the people around us were enjoying themselves and their food and the servers and others were very friendly. It seems to be a popular neighborhood spot so that's great. It's not a foodie destination and not the place to go if you want really authentic indian."

"I've written many reviews for this restaurant, and I can't think of anymore to say. It's just a great dining experience, assuming you like Indian food. The manager, Mr. Shah, is a wonderful host, and always make us feel 'at home'. What more could you ask for. The food is fabulous. This month's special, Methi Chicken, is really really good. My favorite dish is Chicken Korma. The Game Hen is also outstanding. The Mango Lassi drink is very refreshing. Roti is, hands down, our favorite place to go for great Indian food."

"This is my favorite Indian restaurant. The food is excellent. We especially like the game hen and the chicken korma. Mango lassi is very good too. The manager is really nice and cordial, a plus. If you haven't tried this restaurant, I would highly recommend it."

"Roti is great place for authentic Indian food but that can be healthy and new creative as well. They have small but amazing wine and beer list. They do have the traditional Indian dishes but lot of new and creative dishes that use local and in-season ingridents."

"I love eating at Roti. The staff is knowledgeable and always gracious with suggestions. This time we had the chicken korma made with a cream and cashew sauce...yummy. We also had a goat cheese naan. The special we tried was the mushroom and black-eyed peas which was surprisingly tasty. My mouth is watering just writing this review. I think I'll go back next week!"

"We are regulars here: the food and service are consistently excellent. If vegetarian, try the Roti Vegetables and the new special with black-eyed peas. Very delicious!"

"My husband and I were craving Indian food and immediately thought of Roti. I think it's one of the best Indian restaurants in San Francisco -- and I've had my share of Indian food. We had the crab cakes, game hen and garlic naan. OMG! Each entree was equally delicious, game hen super moist and spices did not overpower this delicate protein. I couldn't stop eating and still had enough to take home. I couldn't wait to reheat the next day, and the game hen was still moist even after zapping it in the microwave. Hands down, this is the place to get the best Indian food in the city."
