Farmhouse Tavern
Farmhouse is a Midwestern Craft Tavern focused on delivering warm hospitality, great beer and wonderful food in a comfortable neighborhood setting in the heart of River North. Focused on the Midwest, Farmhouse offers 28 beers on draft, 24 from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. We feature local artisanal liquors and a cocktail program created by Adam Seger.
The menu ingredients are harvested from local farmers and change with the Midwestern seasons. Farmhouse offers locally sourced, grass=fed burgers, makes their own sausage, cuts their our own fries and makes almost everything from scratch on premise. We are a green tavern. 85% of the building materials, furniture and fixtures were salvaged from an abandoned factory on the South Side.
Much of the seating at Farmhouse consists of community tables, seating between eight and ten guests, encouraging a convivial atmosphere. Please be aware that smaller parties are often seated at community tables.

"My husband and I enjoyed a nice, casual dinner there. The local beers and spirits were awesome. Their homemade ginger ale is delicious. We had the cheese curds since all the reviews recommend them. They were a little greasy, but VERY tasty. The homemade catsup is excellent. I have short ribs that were great and hubby had a tasty burger. The decor is all created from salvaged materials which makes it pretty cool!"

"Not so much a wine list but very interesting beer menu, very extensive and all local to the Midwest which was interesting and quite delicious. Some interesting cocktails too.

"Tasty locally-sourced food in a comfy-chic bar. We had the Farm Egg Scramble (with amazingly fresh eggs and fantastic savory sausage patties) and the seasonal veg (kale and wild mushrooms - yum!). They have a nice little outdoor area which I wish we could have used had it been a little warmer. We're gluten-free and there were several good options for us. Great coffee, too! We came from Indiana for the day. I'd visit again if I was in the area and would go there alot more if I lived in the neighborhood. A nice experience and great food for a reasonable price."

"Went there for Mother's Day brunch. We had the eggs benedict and the short rib hash. The eggs benedict was very good, but the hash was not as good. The meat was a little dry and there were too many root vegetables and no toast to go with the eggs. The eggs were very good in both dishes. I have had a better experience there for dinner."

"Having been to this restaurant 4 or 5 times I was a bit shocked not to see any changes to the menu....The same dishes for nearly a year now...Service was ok, ambience was fine, but they need to make some changes to the menu...I would not go back unless they update the menu..Its a cool place, with a good vibe though."

"My wife and I were a wee bit hungry, so we picked Farmhouse. That was a mistake. The ordering of a soup and salad turned out to be an act of frustration. The soup of the day, was called minestrone ,but wasn't. Lentils and potato perhaps? The chicken and herb dumpling soup came without a dumpling in site. In it's place was pinwheel pasta!, When that fact was brought up, we were told they ran out of the chicken and dumpling soup. Well that made sense, because what came wasn't really chicken soup, but chicken water, with some hard vegetables and pasta, which tasted like it was assembled twenty mins ago, not the hours a chicken soup should take, so it can absorbs it's flavors...lastly we were over charged with our bill........sigh."

"Our favorite lunch stop whenever we're in Chicago for the energetic, relaxed atmosphere, convenient location (across from Brown line & short walk from Red) & great food. Burger, options like fried egg, bacon, several cheeses & more is excellent & the special sauce for the Patty Melt - sublime. Our most recent visit, we especially appreciated bartender's eagerness to mix something refreshing for a warm, but overcast, spring day. If you like chocolate pudding and red velvet cake, don't miss Baked Wisconsin for dessert!
One silly flaw in our last visit was the attitude of the hostess. We had a table reservation, yet she was intent on seating us at the bar, outside, or next to two of the four other diners in an otherwise vacant upstairs room."

"We were a group of 6 and arrived 10 minutes late and were still seated right away and in a comfortable area. It is a small restaurant on the ground floor (didn't check the 2nd floor) but don't let that scare you away. The food was delicious. From starters to dessert all were something we talked about for the rest of the night. The staff are so knowledgeable about the food and drinks so that was very helpful."

"We had the Short Ribs & Pork Shoulder. It was filling & delicious. We had a reservation for 6 PM so it was a little loud on the corner of the intersection but not loud enough to bother us or any other table around. The drink list is excellent - definitely something for everyone. The waiter was attentive, but not pushy or annoying. Priced appropriately for the area. Can't wait to try out the brunch menu!"

"My friend and I had an enjoyable dinner at Farmhouse on a Wednesday night. We had our own personal table upstairs, which was good. I didn't realize that was an option so it is nice if you need to catch up over dinner. The restaurant was hopping and got busier as the night progressed (and louder). Our server was excellent. Loved the fried cheese curds and the pork shoulder dish was terrific - very tender. The beet salad could have used a lighter touch on the dressing. Chopped salad had a better dressing to salad ratio. We would go back."

"This was a noisy place with uncomfortable seating. No backs on most of the chairs. No choice but to check your coat and no place to put your purse on the tiny table. Hooks on the wall near the table and on the table for the purse would have helped. Hard brick walls reflected sound too energetically and with music pulsing in the background conversation was difficult. The couple next to us was trying to have a business lunch. It was kind of them to share their business information with us as they shouted back and forth.
The food was good, but could have been better. The value was Ok. If it wasn't so uncomfortable I would go back to give it another try."

"I was so disappointed. I had out of town guests from CO and wanted it to be so special but it was not. The food was average and the noise was so loud that we could not hear each other speak. The Farmhouse Tavern needs to do install some noise baffles to absorb all the sound from the bar, etc... I did not like how they served the Amish Chicken which was my entrée. They place the grits, mushrooms and Brussel sprouts all on top of the chicken."

"Fun decor, delicious food (only exception: the perch - pretty bland). Host and waitstaff were great, and our table was ready for us upon arrival. Only downer: the noise. Our table was near the bar, which was a popular spot that Thursday night. At times it was tough to hear the conversation at our own table."
