DAS is located in Georgetown at the corner of 28th and M St., an easy walk from campus through the shopping Mecca of Wisconsin and M. The historic corner once held by Zed’s Ethiopian Restaurant continues business under a new name. The building itself is an attractive, whitewashed, two-story affair with a small patio overlooking M St. for fair-weather dining. DAS is suitable for both the casual diner and the well-dressed Georgetown elite.DAS is a favorite for the Washington, DC political power players’ actors and international traveler it is not unusual to hear various languages being spoken at the dinner tables at any given night. The word DAS, in Amharic refers to a decorative disc placed on the roof apex of Ethiopian huts.
"This was our first time having Ethiopian food. The staff and food were both amazing. The flavors were full and presentation was beautiful. It was a great experience. If you have never eaten here, you should. We will definetly be return diners on future visits to Georgetown."

"The portions were excellent and well-priced, and the food itself was incredibly flavorful. I was especially pleased with the little extras like someone brining around extra injera, the side of spices for the kitfo or the wet hand wipes at the end--not found at other Ethiopian restaurants. I will definitely be back!"

"We travel to Washington every couple of years and this restaurant is always a must. Not until we booked our reservation did we find out that it had changed hands. We were warmly greeted, the staff were friendly and attentive and the food fantastic. It seems that it only got better!"

"The food was spot on, very tasty. Not the best Ethiopian I've had, but pretty good. Lunch prices seemed a little too high for the portion sizes, though I'm not familiar with Georgetown area prices, so may have been reasonable."

"Husband and I were out in the city on a Wednesday night. After wandering M Street for a bit, we decided we wanted to be adventurous and try Das. We had a very pleasant evening. From our welcome at the door, to the welcome and goodbye at the table, service was very, very good. Our waitress was helpful with meal selection, too. The wine list is small, but there are few nice choices. The mushroom appetizer was wonderful. We had the meat sampler as our shared entree. We were told it was very spicy, and we said great. While the chicken was spicy, the other meats were less so. They were good, but not super spicy. Restaurant was 2/3 full, but noise level really manageable.
All in all, a really nice find. Recommend!"

"Das Ethiopian is almost always a stop when I'm in DC. The food is excellent, the ambiance pleasant. Whether you are a returning customer or a first time visitor, the owner greets you warmly and welcomingly. Never tried Ethiopian food? Don't be afraid. You will enjoy great flavors and textures."

"Very fun place to have dinner. We ordered the sampler platters - one vegetarian and one with meat. It all came as one big platter with foods set on top of a big disk of injera bread (also rolled injera on the side). This is a utensil-free food. All the flavors were delicious. Very fun and very tasty meal. I would visit again."

"Server was very attentive and helpful - she needed to speak a bit louder, but honestly that was her only "weakness"....food was great, presentation was fantastic and the owner/manager was very pleasant during a brief table visit."

"I went to DAS with a group and we had such a wonderful time. The service was amazing. Very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu which is helpful if its your first time eating Ethiopian cuisine. There were four of us so each of us chose something from the menu. The server advised that it would be served family style which we were excited about. When the platter came to the table it had some items which were great to clean the palate, then the server assembled the platter. This was definitely an amazing meal and cannot wait to return. Very recommendable."

"It is one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in the area, located in the heart of Georgetown. All the old Zeds fans must know that this is simply a change in name. I have always loved the food and enjoyed dining here since 8 years."

"This was my first time at an Ethiopian restaurant, and I had a very positive experience with the food and the service. It probably isn't the most authentic place in the city to get Ethiopian food -- it definitely plays up to the Georgetown clientele -- but it was an excellent date night experience and I would love to go back. The food was great and the manager made a point to stop by our table to make sure we knew what all of the dishes were when they arrived."

"We had a very good experience here. The service was attentive and the ambiance/decor are quite nice - it does feel more formal than the usual Ethiopian restaurant. We shared the shortribs and the vegetarian sampler - a great combination. Excellent espressos."

"Well done Ethiopian food. We were expecting to be sitting on the floor, but they had tables with white tablecloths. That did give it a sense of a fancier restaurant, but made it much harder to share family-style. We brought our 4 year old and 8 years old kids to experience Ethiopian food for the first time. The waitress recommended two dishes, one of which was too spicy for our three kids (despite them eating more spicy food and other ethnic food that most kids their age). But they still liked the experience and want to go back!"

"Excellent Ethiopian. The only issue might be that some dishes could come in as a bit mild; we should have asked for something a bit spicier. HIGHLY recommend both the shrimp and the mushroom Tibs; the spinach & rice with chicken infillay was the milder dish that could have used a bit of pumping up.
Wine list is a bit limited, as is the bar; however, this isn't a place where you go to drink (there are lots of other places for that), it's a place for great Ethiopian food.
We'll definitely be back, and will definitely reserve a space."

"Das Ethiopian was truly a dining experience. The service was wonderful. We were greeted by a distinguised gentleman that took our coats, provided us with an overview of the dining experience and made suggestions about the menu. Our servers were also wonderful. Beautiful gracious women that appropriately came to our table to check on us. We were there for several hours but the staff never rushed us. I had only eaten Ethopian cuisine once many years ago. Lots of choices for vegetarians and non-vegetarions. Also the price was very affordable. This experience has definitely connected me to a new experience. I was visiting DC for an overnight business trip but will come back again and bring others."

"I'm a bit of an ethiopian food snob, so I couldn't give the food at Das a ful five stars--mostly because the godin tibs was far to dry and inadequately spiced, and some of the veggies on the veggie plate were just so-so. That said, it is a solid option for traditional ethiopian dishes if you're in the neighborhood. Also, the ambiance is quite classy, with white tablecloths, fancy glasses and dishwear, and jazz playing in the background. They appear to have a good selection of ethiopian beer and wine (must have Harar with any ethiopian meal!). Also, the chicken dish we had (I think it was the awaze) was delicious and full of spice. So, all in all a great neighborhood spot and perfect for a date or for a small group of friends."

"A was looking forward to dining there for a while now. The food was indeed delicious. But I have to say the maître d' was really rude, not really specifically to me but to other patrons. We arrived on time for our reservation, and they were clearly overbooked so we had to wait. A brief "I'm sorry for the wait" or a word of explanation would have been nice from the maître d', especially that there isn't really a place to wait there. But fine, we didn't have to wait long, so whatever. The next couple that arrived (also with a reservation) was also told that they would have to wait, and when they inquired why, the maître d' gave them some attitude. Again, a brief "I'm sorry, we overbooked, it won't be long" would have been more appropriate."

"It was good but not great. I'm new to Ethiopian. My first impression was the food, while tasting fine, was kind of the same no matter what you ordered. It was a neat experience and I enjoyed it. The restaurant was busy and courteous. Servers were very nice. It'll give you something worth talking about and the location was killer. Maybe my expectations were too high?"

"I took a date there for Valentine's Day for our first Ethiopian experience and it was a home run. We ordered wine and shared a giant dish that we had to eat with our hands, so this meal really stood out from the rest! The servers were all excellent and very attentive.
My only small complaint was the food. It tasted very dry to me, but again, it was our first time with Ethiopian food."

"Perhaps it was that we were there early on superbowl night, but the place had an enjoyably quiet intimacy that it might not have when it's busier. We had the chicken and beef sampler and spinach and vegetables, plus the chocolate fondant for dessert. Everything was good. I'm not sure it was so good that it would draw us away from other Ethiopian restaurants we like, but we'd certainly be happy to go again if we were in the neighborhood."
