"Came here with my husband and another couple on our first night in Seattle. For the prices being charged, we expected far better food and service. Both, however, were sadly lacking. Our waitress brought us mismatched glasses for our prosecco, never returned to refill our glasses, and left the empty bottle on the table long after it was finished. Plus we waited at least 10 minutes after ordering the bottle before it was served. Then the waitress brought the wrong bottle of white wine, and didn't seem at all fussed when it was pointed out to her. The worst part of the meal was that my $32 smoked dungeness crab entree tasted like a bland tater tot."

"This is not a terrible restaurant. The style of cuisine is very refined but the quality of the dishes falls short. The classic combination of asparagus with Hollandaise would be fine, except that the sauce was not Hollandaise, or was a failed Hollandaise. Duck confit had a good texture but was over-salted (when this occurs I wonder if the Chef is a smoker). The "chicken with dumplings" was okay but also over-salted. And the dumplings would be better described as "cheese balls." They seemed to be made mostly of Riccotta. They weren't bad.But they weren't delicious.
The decor was a bit stark and the acoustics too live to allow for conversation when the place got busy.

"We attended during Restaurant Week and arrived rather early for our reservation, at 5:45pm. We had a couple of beverages and ordered only from the Restaurant Week menu. The food was amazing, and the service was attentive but slow with the food. We waited quite awhile between courses, especially the last course. We joked that perhaps they had not yet made the desserts and were rushing to freeze the ice cream.
The restaurant was empty when we arrived, and completely full by the time we left. We noticed others who had arrived after us, and ordered from the same menu, were leaving at the same time as us. I would definitely go here again for the food but not if I'm in a rush."

My dishes were great. It was a pork cheek dish. My partner had a dish that was just so so. It was a veg. ravioli dish pretty bland, but OK. That's why the rating isn't excellent. The servers were very nice--could be dressed a little better. We plan to go back."

"My boyfriend and I went to the Coterie Room for Easter brunch. Both the food and the service was a huge disappointment. We were very hungry, looking for an Easter feast. We made that clear to the waitress. We settled on two dishes; she never mentioned that they were small plates, never suggested we might need to order more food or a side as well. So, we were dismayed when two tiny portions arrived at our table. Not only that, but the food was not good. I wouldn't say terrible, but very poorly thought out with not enough flavor. Both were served on top of a deep fried hashbrown "patty" that overwhelmed everything else"

"We did the tasting menu seemed like a bargain at $85 with matched wines but once we had the food we realized it wasn't such a bargain. The food was pretty boring with the exception of the main courses which were both delicious- beef cheeks and cannelloni. If I went back I would just order this again - nothing else. The service started out badly - we were seated and given water and then just left alone for about 20 minutes. But it did get better throughout the night. Overall probably a 5 out of 10. No rush to return. I wouldn't recommend it - not because it is bad, but because it is really average and there are more interesting places to go in Seattle for a good meal. I might try one of their other restaurants...."

"the staff was exceptionally nice and clearly experienced and the food was delicious but we got the sense that the kitchen hadn't quite figured out the timing of brunch. one person's dish was luke-warm, my dish was not quite hot enough & the chicken waffles were "partially" served (1/2, the other 1/2 brought later) just to make sure everyone in our party had something to eat at the same time.
still, the chicken & waffles were quite good with a nice array of accoutrements and the dungeness crab w/potato cakes was divine.
i'm confident that, with a little more time, the kitchen will work out the kinks in their brunch service.
we'll definitely go back to try out their dinner menu."

"Beautiful restaurant; beautiful food. I can't wait to go back on my next trip to Seattle. Poutine appetizer was truly fantastic! :)
Docked the review on service because of a strange seating assignment at the back of the restaurant near the kitchen entry - must admit to feeling slightly snubbed, though I'm open to the possibility that the host might have been inexperienced. Especially strange considering there were only 3 tables taken at the time and we had reservations that noted this as a special occasion. They re-seated us near the front at our request, but the non-prime seating wasn't again used for customers until over an hour later when every other table was full.
Wait team was fantastic, however - well cared for!"

"Restaurant building is very beautiful and romantic. The restaurant comes off as wanting to be higher end, but in my opinion the food is priced $10 too high. The real downfall is the wait staff; I would expect poor, inexperienced service from more of a divey or casual place. Examples: waitress took 10 minutes to even come to the table, didn't ask if we wanted drinks or tell about the specials, forgot to fire our dinner order, never checked in once the food came, and we had to flag her down for a check. She had 3 tables in all, so it wasn't a busy night."

"The food was wonderful, would go back for that maybe but the service was some of the worst. The waitress gave us bad advice on the drinks (one had to be sent back). We had to flag her down to place our dinner orders vis a vie the water person. She brought soup but no spoons so we had to flag her down again. We had to flag the water person for refills. We had to flag down the waitress to get more bread. Three of us ordered from the 3-course tasting menu that included dessert and when we were finished out main courses, the waitress brought our 3 deserts and never asked if the 4th person in our party wanted a dessert. (which she did) and finally, we got the bill brought to us."

"I was surprised at how bad the service was. We were also put at a table so close to another group it was awkward. This was weird because there were plenty of open tables so it wasnt necessary. The food was okay. Not enough to make me want to come back."

"Very yummy, creative upscale American food. Even the bread that came to the table automatically was superior. We took our kids, ages 12 and 14, and while it's not a kid place in the traditional sense, our kids felt very welcome and loved the experience."

"We really liked dinner at The Coterie Room! We read mixed reviews before going, but we we're glad we went. We dined fairly early so it wasn't crowded, but it picked up considerably. Service was efficient and friendly. Our server came by fairly regularly to check on us, our water glasses were kept full. We had the 3-course dinner - the apple & kale salad was fun. The shaved cheese and toasted hazelnuts worked well with the mustardy vinaigrette, the black cod was silky and melt in mouth, the canelloni filling but light. Prices for the large plates seemed on high side, but we thought tasting menu was a good value. We definitely will be back, especially to check out brunch!"

"Foie gras torching and vegetable fritters were tasty. Nice black cod entree and and a delicious cassoulet-- I had the duck confit and sausage added to the cassoulet. Overall a very enjoyable dinner with efficient service."

"While dinner at The Coterie Room is always stellar, the brunch fell somewhat flat. It wasn't terrible, but neither did it impress. There are far too many restaurants in Seattle with a superior brunch menus and significantly lower prices, to recommend. The nearly empty restaurant at noon on a Sunday tells me that Seattle already knows this...That said, the service was absolutely stellar, which is always greatly appreciated."
