Prepkitchen - Little Italy
The newest location to the Prepkitchen family, Prepkitchen Little Italy sits on the corner of India & Date Street in San Diego’s historic Little Italy. The second-story dining room boasts views of the city’s busy streets and local farmer’s market on Saturday mornings. Named one of San Diego’s “Best Restaurants” in 2012 by San Diego Magazine’s food critic, Troy Johnson, Prepkitchen Little Italy serves artisanal, farm-to-table cuisine in a fun & sociable environment and is the only Prepkitchen restaurant to offer a full-service bar.
Happy hour is offered daily, where guests can enjoy a selection of award-winning $4 tapas, $5 glasses of sangria or $20 pitchers, $8 signature and handcrafted cocktails, as well as 25% off all bottles of wine.
Prepkitchen Little Italy is open for lunch and dinner daily, as well as brunch on the weekends, which includes happy hour priced mimosas, $1 coffee and welcoming scone bar.

"Visited for Mother's Day brunch, overall it was a good experience. The food was great & reasonably priced. The service was a little spotty, rarely had drinks refilled and it was very hot inside. We wish the AC would have been on. The food options are unique and delicious and the ambiance is great, love the decor. I will return as I want to try the dinner menu. Overall great spot for groups and/or a special occasion."

"I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and we had a great time. The ambience was hip and warm, and the staff was very friendly. They brought my girlfriend out a special dessert at the end of the meal, and she very pleased. I would definitely recommend and go back again."

"The food was excellent, as was the service. Our waiter offered some amazing suggestions which we did partake in. It was a little gluttonous, but was a great way to have a memorable and rare dinner out with our friends. I'm not sure what we are craving more, the cocktails or the food. "Creative, fun brunch items. Self service coffee bar is a great idea for caffeine junkies who cannot wait for servers to keep their cups full. Scone bar looked yummy. Corned beef eggs Benedict and ricotta stuffed French toast were delicious. The sliced fruit in my fruit bowl tasted like onions because I think the knife was not rinsed properly. Otherwise, a very nice relaxing brunch in open, airy space."

"my wife and i are patrons at the location in little italy and have been going to brunch pretty much every other sunday for the past 2-3 months. sunday's, 4/14, service however was unacceptable. we were seated by the hostess and our server never came. we sat there for about 5-7 minutes and then saw another couple seated down right next to us. the server came and helped them within 2 minutes. we then sat there for another 5 minutes, if not longer before he, the same server that helped the couple next to us, came and served us. his remark was, 'oh, i didn't realize that you were seated in my area'. wtf??? seriously? in my honest opinion that is unacceptable.
can you please make sure that your servers are aware of who's seated?"

"Very loud, hard to have a conversation. Chairs are metal, very uncomfortable. Menu changes weekly, except for a few standards so, if there was a specific dish you wanted, check the menu that day. Appetizers and salads were expensive but enough for 4 people. The fried artichoke hearts were way too much for 2. Excellent Cesear salad, chicken was flavored all through (brined for 24 hours) and one of the best margueritas I've had."

"Upscale casual dining at it's best. The food was great. The flatbread was perfectly light for an appetizer - nice mix if cheese, sauted onion and bacon. The short rib dish was so tender and flavorful. The fusili bolognese was great, but would have been better with a flat noodle rather than fusili pasta. Ambiance is perfect for date night or out with a group. The service was outstanding. The friendliness and attentiveness of our server and all of the staff made the evening so enjoyable."

"I like the farm-to-table approach to the menu selection, it keeps it updated and dynamic. All of the dishes we had were amazing, the clams in a white sauce were unique and quite delicious. The service was excellent, our water and wine glasses never emptied and the waiter was around for a quick question or adding more to our order. This is a place where you could go with a group, ordering and eating family style, so everyone can try a little bit of everything since it's all delicious."

"Way to ignore your customers.... went to your restaurant for lunch on Friday 3/8. The hostess immediately told us we needed a reservation - the restaurant was practically empty...once we told her that we DID have a reservation, then she was nice. After we were seated, it took 10-15 minutes to realize we hadn't been given any water or service. I had to flag someone down to take our order. Only one refill on water and we had to BOTHER the hostess to take our money from us so we could pay the bill and get back to work on time. What a bummer.."

"Very good food, sparce servings so if you share food get enough for each of you to have one on your own. i.e I had scallops for $29 at Peohe's received 8 scallops (about 6 oz.) and a very generous serving of vegies. I paid $23 at prepkitchen at had 4 scallops (about 2 oz.)and 4 small pieces of broccoli.
The food tastes delicious, it's fresh and everything is home made...the water is even delicious.
The server was in love with the food, was very attentive and the manager made it a point to go around and check on every table a few times."

"Absolutely lovely place with a wonderful menu and a really top notch staff and a great menu. The bone marrow was perfect, though the bones weren't as thick as I'd like, possibly that's me being greedy for more though. The one thing I thought was charming was the option to buy the kitchen a 6 pack of beer, which I added to my check because of the stellar job they did with my girlfriends mussels and my own lamb rigatoni. I really enjoy this place and the level of noise was not an issue for me, but, if you prefer a bit more quiet where you dine, beware, this place is quite lively. To restate however, you'd be a fool to miss this place and their menu for such a trifle thing as a bit of extra volume.
I would highly recommend this restaurant."

"Everything at Prepkitchen, from our arrival to our departure, was a wonderful experience. The service was incredible, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was lively and fun. Our group ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir based on our servers recommendation and we were definitely not let down. We ordered Caesar salads (big enough for two), I got the linguini and clams (such a beautiful, tasty sauce), my husband ordered the scallops special (so light and delicate), and our friends ordered the braised beef short ribs and pappardelle bolognese. Everything was truly so savory and amazing! Unfortunately we were too full for dessert, but everything sounded so good. Every detail was so fine-tuned, we cannot wait to go back!"

"We returned to Prepkitchen after our New Year's Eve dining experience. We were in Little Italy to look for apartments, but finished sooner than we thought. The staff made the change to an earlier time with no problems. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, choosing two favorites from our last experience...The mussels and the pasta boulonese, plus we shared a new item...the hamburger with gruyere cheese, carmelized onions, lettuce and a fried egg. My wife had a great glass of pinot and I choose a local craft beer. All were excellent."

"The food was incredibly delicious (Smoked chicken salad). The only down-side was how noisy it is due to the open design, so it was not a good place for a business luncheon. Other than the noise, I'd recommend it, with a warning about the noise level and suggest a less busy time of day to go."

"The dishes that they made, the ingredients were good, however, we all felt our dishes were a bit too oily. My husband and friend had the rigatoni with lamb shoulder and I had the butternut squash ravioli. All of our dishes were swimming in oil. I am actually surprised that when the waiter came back and saw all of our dishes were barely touched, why he didn't ask us how our food was when he gave us all to-go boxes. Also, the waiter was hard to get a hold of and left us waiting a few times for drinks, again to order and then again to get the check. I have been here before and had a couple appetizers that were great, it was a busier night and the service was actually better. Hopefully last night was just a fluke."

"Went to Prepkitchen the day before Valentine's day because I was going out of town the next day and wanted to grab something nice but not super fancy for a meal. The food was great, the drink list has quite a few Prepkitchen specific creations (many of them contain liquors and other things that I was unfamiliar with) and my date didn't like her drink a lot but the wine was quite good. We had the burger and the mussels and the burger is definitely enough for 2! The mussels were also delicious and there were enough of those for us to share as well. The flatbread appetizer was fantastic and I highly recommend it. The prices were very reasonable and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the decor of the place. We'll definitely be back soon."
