Experience Japanese charcoal-grilled skewers, small plates, wine and beer in individual glass-divided rooms with sunken Japanese tables. We strive to source our ingredients locally.
"Can't seem to find our server, had to ask for my wife and daughter to assist with the look out and flag any server to get service, yes it was that bad. Ridiculous Noise level, management did not do anything with the loud party, obviously did not care about the other diners. Customers including me where very annoyed with the noise level and no one from management seems to be concerned. Can't believe the establishment got a Michelin recommended rating."

"Ever since a friend introduced Mokutanya to us, we have been hooked! We have been back almost every week since. Service is genuinely warm and friendly, without the incessant need to ask if "everything is ok" every couple of minutes. I really love that about their service - efficient and unobtrusive. There was an issue with one of our plates during our most recent visit, and the waitress went out of her way to resolve it, even offering a lovely green tea cheesecake on the house! Ambience is ultra cozy - you eat sort of 'japanese style', sitting on a wooden platform with your legs resting in the hole below. Great place to catch up over dinner! Food is awesome - the pork belly is a must try!"

"What a nice surprise to find Mokutanya just off Broadway on California Ave. ! The yakitori is tender and cooked with just the right amount of sauce. The Wagyu Beef is superb! The ramen, excellent. The exotic meats on Thursdays are a tasty adventure. The service is friendly, attentive, and timely....and the individual tables separated from other tables gives groups of up to 6 privacy and minimal noise. We've been there several times and will go back again. The prices are reasonable for the variety, quality, and amount of food one gets."

"Been a repeat customer here for a while. They have an excellent Sake selection. Several times I've been here and occasionally they even have Sake brewers showing off their sake. Great place, but a little pricey, be prepared to spend a bit if you come here and want to eat until you're full."

"This was the second time I attended this restaurant. The food is very good and different then most Japanese restaurants I've attended. The swan was superb and chicken hearts were delicious. I know most people probably key won't try their exotic meats but they have a great selection of more commonly known meats. Like chicken, sausage, beef and pork. Amazing"

"Mukutanya was a real "find"! It is a beautiful restaurant with table on the floor (but you have a place for your legs) in a glass enclosed booth. It is quite lovely and soothing. Easy to talk and socialize. Perfectly paced service.
The food was excellent. A lot of variety. All freshly prepared and hot. A fun place to go share food with small plates. Delicious!
It's really a hidden gem and I urge you to try it! We went for lunch and just loved it. Can't wait to go back!"

"The 3 of us had an early dinner which was good because the restaurant filled up soon. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We had the kushi yaki, edamame, spinach salad etc. My 2 friends were very pleased with the meal and will probably go there again. I know I will."

"It looks like a strip mall from the outside, but inside you find a sleek restaurant. They have exotic meat skewers. The Spocy Waygu was delicious. Service was gracious. They have an excellent Sake selection. What an excellent experience and surprise this was. They service from 11 am to 2 am, so it is a giant cut above other late night dining establishments in the area. I wish I could keep it my secret restaurant, but it was too good for that!"

"Nice decor arrangement of restaurant, some items can be salty for my palette, Did not care for dressing on complimentary cabbage salad a good japanese mayo or ponzu would be better. Thus not a good prelude to the meal. Would definately reccomend to try Mokutanya .Great place to go for a drink, chat and nibbles."
