Sugo opened its doors in November 2001, with the mantra of creating a unique Italian dining experience focused on regional ingredients with an emphasis on freshness. Our first menu was created on November 14th 2001 and since then we have had more than 1,000 different menus, each designed with love and using the best product available.
I found the food to be absolutely excellent, but the appy portions are a bit of a puzzle to sort out. The brushetta was excellent and enough for four to share but something like calamari is more fit for one and it includes a small bread portion to help absorb the sauce. We had planned to order 4 appys + the brushetta but the waiter said the portions were large and talked us out of it. We cut this down to two appys - Calamari and the braised prawns. The latter only came with two (large) prawns. He must have meant the mains were large..... but that is not quite what I had taken from the conversation.
The mains were large and I have never had a better piece of hallibat anywhere."

"Service was really quite slow and we eventually had to ask another waiter if we could order some drinks and food as our waiter didn't show up for some time. We probably waited a good 20-30 minutes before we got some drinks!"

"First time to Sugo and our group (4 of us) without exception loved it! The food was absoultely fantastic. From the beet soup to the bruschetta and fried buffalo mozzerella to our entrees and dessert. Each dish was raved about and shared... "you've got to try this!" Atmoshpere is lovely and the music - while quietly in the background - was great too. Why this wasn't a 5 overall is that we sat for some time before we even were able to order a drink and we had to ask for bread to be brought out. Service was a bit slow to start off but it was busy and did improve as our evening went on. Will definitely go back."

"Great Italian food without being so traditional. Traditional Italian is good (and they definitely had it with antipasto and bruschetta ) but it is refreshing not to see veal and chicken Parmesan on the menu. We shared the wild boar and it was tender and flavourful. A great savoury taste without being to powerful. They were great about sharing as well. Our server was friendly and attentive. Looked like lots of regulars too"

"What an amazing dining experience from the second we got there....greeted by charming chef/owner Angelo (thanks for the Prosecco to start - nice touch!!)....on to the amazing wine, starters (try the bruschettas!) and amazingly delicious entree (I had the halibut - yummy!!). I will have to return to try the mozzarellas which are apparently hand-made by a local cheesemaker! Scott, our server, was fantastic... attentive (but not overly!) and very helpful :) Loved the limoncello...perfect ending to a perfect meal! I'll be back again on my next trip to Calgary! Best meal I had all week :)"

"Their antipastos are very small but good selection, then the bruschetas are really tasty and creative. Loved the roasted beef sirloin with aged provolone. For main dish I had the pan seared halibut with goat cheese and was delicious it was crispy and very moist and the marinated peppers were very tasty. I paired it with a white anselmi garganegga '10 and it was very good too. For dessert i had the vanilla panacotta and was delicious I wasnt able to finish it because the portions are quite big. I really liked also the concept of clean and plain decorations .. and the service good as the food."

"8 pm reso on Fri night, got there on time, tables were turning over more slowly than anticipated. We were given bar seats and prosecco while we waited, which was welcome and made the table wait a non-issue for us. Staff is friendly and professional, got a great table right by the window, food and wine were both delicious. Had the sirloin bruschetta, rib-eye for me, pork main for my husband, both lovely. It's pricey for a regular Friday night out, but we really enjoy going there occasionally. Love the room. Recommended."

"My boyfriend and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary at Sugo. We didn't hesitate when selecting the Chef's Tasting Menu, which was 4 unique & beautifully presented courses. Our server - Gordon, was very attentive and his twist with the Prosecco and pear sorbet was a nice surprise.
Looking forward to our next fabulous evening at Sugo!"

"As always the food was decadent. The wine was good and my wife and I always love the make your own Antipasto platter. I had the chicken wrapped in bacon and the portion was HUGE. I have a hearty appetite and couldn't finish it all, which was appreciated as I feel $34 for a chicken leg, was a little expensive. The service was good, and as always we will be coming back in the future.
Cheers,"

"Sugo had a great atmosphere and a friendly (although not overly attentive) staff. I was disappointed in the pasta, which obviously came from a box. If I go for italian food, fresh pasta is a must!"

"My husband and I have been there once before and have been wanting to come back for a long time - finally we did. It was perfect for what we wanted; the food is never disappointing and is above average; it has a wonderful romantic vibe; the prices are incredibly decent; and our waiter was most pleasant. I think it'll be easier for us to come back now more often with a great, fresh memory still in our mouths."

"We celebrated our 18 year wedding anniversary in the front window with the bench seats. The food was spectacular, the service was exactly the same as every other time we've been there, outstanding. We had such a great evening, never rushed to get out of the best seats in the house - just left to enjoy our evening. It was perfect. Thank you Sugo!"

"I loved it. Everything was perfectly prepared and the fresh. My friend was a vegetarian and they prepared a special meal for her which was amazing. I would recomend this restaurant to anyone and cannot wait to go back.
And with the menu changing everyday, it makes it all that more exciting as it is guaranteed to be fresh!"

"First visit to the restaurant. Had been watching the menu as it changes daily. We ordered fried mozzarella to start (tasty, but cold) and then rabbit two ways and orichette pasta with house smoked bacon. Both main dishes were satisfactory but unfortunately not stellar. May visit again depending on the menu options available."

"We tried Sugo for my husbands birthday and were not disappointed. A romantic setting, amazing food that changes daily and delicious wine. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and the wine. You could tell that the people working there were like family. Great service. The food is made to order, so you have time between each course to enjoy the company."

"Great food, but service got super slow at around 730ish on a Saturday night.. Looked to be only 2 servers for the entire restaurant. Our dessert order took about 15 minutes to take after the server dropped off the menu. Food was great though. An added bonus for diners is they change their menu daily."

"Holy was the service slow! My friend took me out for a nice treat, we arrived promptly at 6:30 and wasn't offered water until at least half an hour later.there was about a total of 5 tables on a weds night and the waiter seemed like he couldn't be more annoyed that we decided to visit this restaurant. Bread didn't come until appetizer was done, we asked for ahi tuna (both of us) which is about the easiest main you can get (it's half raw for god's sake. 3 hours for one shared calamari appy and 2 ahi tunas. My friend was about to fall asleep! We skipped desert and just asked for the bill. Water wasn't topped once during dinner and he didn't once come over to ask how the food is. Just seemed like we are the biggest inconvenience of his evening"

"We arrived at Sugo expecting an Italian atmosphere and friendly staff.
Then our waitress arrived. She seemed reserved until we asked her about vegetarian options. When I had called the resturaunt a week prior the chef had told me it wasn't a problem - they could make a nice pasta with roasted veg to accommodate the vegetarian at our table. She was snarky and tried to force the vegetarian to order off the menu. For the prices on the menu we expected the kitchen and waitstaff to say "no problem we'll figure something out for you". So in the end we decided for wine and appies. This apparently infuriated the waitress - she got really snarky and threw the bill at my husband. We will not be back - it was one of the worst experiences I've had."

"Not great. Olives were good and dessert was pretty tasty, however, the lamb and chicken was overcooked. Service was super slow, even though the restaurant was not at all busy. It's seriously overpriced for the quality of everything it offers."

"Had a most enjoyable evening with 4 friends. The service was attentive and the meals were tasty. We were seated close to the bar, which was noisy on a Friday night and made it a little difficult to have a conversation a times, but to be expected in a busy spot on a Friday night. The seafood dishes were especially good, and the rolled mozzarella appetizer and beet bruschetta were good appetizer recommendations from our waiter. Although the meals were filling, a couple of small shared desserts (there's an outstanding shortbread/pistachio creme brulee combo)finished the evening nicely. Lots of on street parking in the evenings."

"The best tasting pork I've ever had in my life, and I love pork! So tender, juicy, flavourful with pear slices. Orecchiette pasta had great texture and saltiness from the pancetta, but too much leftover olive oil, tiramisu delightful with berries on top. Must come here again! Attentive touch for our server to turn down the cold air that was blowing on us."

"We dined out with friends who recognized a red wine from an area in Italy they had visited so we enjoyed two bottles of it - delicious! The antipasti, we ordered four items, were a little small I thought. The main courses were delicious and I had the pistachio creme brulee for dessert. It was fabulous!"

"Feb 15, 2013: very busy. Stood at door for 10 mins, while right next to us was an empty table for 2. Waitress came by with free Prosecco, finally I said, "Can we just sit here?" reply: "I don't care if you don't care". This happened all night, service staff not acknowledging people standing at the door. Watched people go from happy, excited to annoyed. Most of the food was very good. I had the buffalo mozzarella w/ basil and heirloom tomato and my husband had the soup, which was cold. He didn't finish it and told the waitress he didn't want another. She apologized and our main courses came: chicken and seafood dish which sadly had bits of shell in it. Waitress apologized again and gave us a $25 token for another meal, but we won't back."

Good - Most dishes were exellent, especially the tenderloin. Only miss was the creme brulee which was still liquid underneath - Decent ambience and noise level, which is welcome in this new age of ridiculously loud restaurants - Price for the set menu was acceptable; not a fantastic deal but not a horrible gouge either
Bad - Tables were a little too close together, but maybe they wanted to have as many seatings as possible - Service was very slow, and not very friendly. We can deal with this on a normal night, but on Valentine's Day, that pretty much ruins what could have been a really good meal"

"Service was some of the worst I've ever had. Waited 30 mins to get a table, even with a reservation. Took an additional 30 mins to get our first drinks. Waitress was sloppy, cold and didn't seem to care at all. Table next to us was fighting and being obscene, a server/manager(?) came out and joked with them as opposed to doing anything about it. Fine dining prices (we spent $200 on our dinner) for decent food and the kind of service you probably wouldn't tolerate at a fast food chain."
