"Our group of 5, including two guests from out of town, had dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was extremely busy when we arrived at 7:15 (to the point that menus were in short supply!), but that did not impact the excellent service we received from the waitstaff. We each ordered something different, and the food was outstanding across the board. I will be returning for Mother's Day brunch next week!"

"I love the relaxed feel of this place. All the food was delicious as usual, from perfectly cooked steak to the special bread pudding. The service was terrific.. The only thing I would change is to have the jazzy music a little less energetic."

"Tastebuds is one of our very favorite Richmond restaurants so, when we saw they were participating in Restaurant Week, we took 2 other couples to share the joy! Happily, they liked it as much as we do! The specials on the menu were wonderful - pork and flounder were especially well received! I am always impressed when a restaurant uses RW to showcase its talents in the kitchen and provides the same quantity of food as it does during regular business days. Tastebuds qualifies on all counts."

"Tastebuds is the BEST restaurant ever! We live in the neighborhood and always bring people to Tastebuds. I had friends from Midlothian there the other night and they said it was the best meal they had ever had ! Andrew and Val are the best, polite , friendly, very accommodating. I have never had a bad meal there. It is always delicious. We just ate there two nights in a row and thats not uncommon!"

"Brunch at Tastebuds is very good - the fruit stuffed french toast is always a treat.
My friend ordered the Pork Adoba dish and loved it, and I went simple with poached eggs,their special root vegetable hash (not just potatoes thankfully!), and bacon.
Valentina, one of the owners, is always kind and gracious. She generously honored a discount! The young woman who is their Sunday server is a delight! I ordered the bacon to be not crispy, when she brought it she said, "this isn't quite right, let me have them redo it". Coffee was good (Blanchard's). Wish they had fresh squeezed juice and an expresso machine and it would be PERFECT!
Brunch with an old friend from N.C and we were there for 2 hours, so I greatly appreciate their patience."

"We were celebrating our older daughter's birthday. Our party included five adults and two children ages 9 and 11. Appetizers were perfect and easy to share. We all ordered something different and each entree was absolutelly delicious. Two of our favorites were the shimp stuffed with crabmeat and the Rockfish. The younger children ordered pizza and enjoyed that too. The wait staff was friendly and very accomodating. We will definitely come back. This restaurant is a little gem tucked into a small neighborhood."

"Stopped in for dinner while on a road trip from DC to Charlotte, NC. The restaurant's location in a small shopping strip caused concern but the internal decoration was nice enough and we were especially pulled to seats at the bar, which had a warm and classy vibe. GREAT cocktails made with care (Southern Sidecar was the cocktail "special). I had potato pancake with salmon as a starter and veal special - great flavors (even though the veal was tough) and hubby had duck spring rolls and pork chop - again, the flavors were VERY good. Servers checked in on us frequently, water was kept refilled and second round of cocktails just as good as the first. Dessert was bread pudding and coffee. GREAT! Highly recommend!!!"

"A cross between neighborhood secret and very nice, but not upscale, restaurant. A menu some new foodies might consider a bit boring but containing a number of things I actually want to eat. Food was well prepared. Only small issue was my wife's steak was a little over done based upon her order. They were very busy on a Friday night and so service was a little overwhelmed but friendly and trying to accommodate. Hard to go wrong here."

"The regular menu has a variety of wonderful choices and the specials are numerous and are, indeed, special. It is not unusual for Tastebuds to have several large parties (more than 4) and, so, it can get loud. But the tables are not as close together as some places (Stella's comes to mind) so you can carry on a conversation with your dining companion!
In some places it can be difficult to find something on the menu that appeals to you - at Tastebuds, it's the opposite - trying to decide between the many appealing offerings."

From start to finish everything was excellent - our waiter was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, entrees were varied, totally fresh, delicious and beautifully presented, great wine choices and full bar, and the Desserts were scrumptious! We ordered the Thai beef & shrimp, the rolled veal special and the salmon and all were outstanding. Desserts were absolutely scrumptious - we totally cleaned our plates! Will we be back again? You betcha!"

"Really, my only complaint was slooooowwww service. We went for brunch on a Sunday at 1 pm (one of the only time slots available; I would have preferred earlier). There was a long wait (at least 10 min?) for our drinks, once we placed our order. I can't even tell you how long the wait for food was... 40 min? Luckily, we all loved what we ordered, everything was delicious and well-put together. I'd try them again and hope for faster service"

"I live in this neighborhood and love having a great place to eat. The food is so good and creative and everyone is so nice.

Stuffed French Toast is divine - want to try the Salmon or Pork brunch entries which I'm told are two of the most popular. Wish they had one or two other egg creations - special omelette with shrimp or a creative eggs benedict, maybe on Billy Bread toast?

"My 2nd trip here, 1st time for brunch. Hardest part was deciding what to order, each of us made a different selection and all of us were very pleased. My butternut squash crepes were a delicious combination of flavors, light texture and marvelous taste. Others sampled the short ribs, potato cakes w/salmon, and more standard breakfast fare of eggs, hash and bacon. Absolutely no complaints! the service was excellent, despite being filled to capacity. They even moved us to a larger - and more ideally situated - table to accomodate an extra person (above our reservation).

"My parents were visiting from out of town so I wanted to take them to a good restaurant and a part of town they hadn't been to before. We ALWAYS have great food at Tastebuds. We first went to Tastebuds during Richmond Restaurant Week and have been back several times since. They have a lot of delicious choices and the service is always great! We will definitely be back. "We have been here many times. With enormous relief we returned to Tastebuds on St. Valentine's day after a couple of really mediocre meals at other more pretentious Richmond restaurants. As always, we were not disappointed. Tastebuds' menu combines a series of regular items with really thoughtful specials that never fail to delight and surprise. For example, the crab nachos special appetizer reached a new height not normally associated with the word "nacho." I had the spicy vodka, cream and tomato pasta special entree. Tastebuds' version beat any I have ever eaten by a mile, including mine. Light and perfectly spiked sauce. Excellent management and wait-staff. Outstanding chef. Memorable cocktail recipes, too."

"I stumbled on to this place on the Internet. My husband and I wanted to have a nice meal for a little celebration. The daily specials were on their website so I already knew what I was getting before we even got there. The "stuffed cabbage" was excellent. My mother used to make it when I was young. Tastebuds was much better than hers! It has a gourmet spin on it.
