Inspired by Old Montreal's taverns of the past, Taverne Gaspar welcomes its guests in a warm and lively setting, perfect for dinner and a few drinks with friends. The gastro pub cuisine is inspired by classic French and British tavern fare.
"It was a nice place to go with some great beers on tap. The steak frites we good and cooked to my order. The sweet potato fries were good too. The truffle aioli with the house chips could have been a little more pronounced."

"Can't recommend this place enough. Taverne Gaspar has all of the atmosphere of your favourite pub, but with fine dining-quality dishes. The staff was able to accommodate our group of 20, and even with several other parties present that evening, we did not wait too long between courses, and our dishes arrived together, not staggered as sometimes happens with large groups. The lamb was especially fabulous - well-seasoned, and so tender. Well done!!"

"We had oysters, sweetbread popcorn, shrimp spring rolls for appetizers - all good, original and fresh. However, our main courses were disappointing ... Fish and chips was overlooked - chicken was a bit salty and a tad dry ... But overall good - I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again, but if I'm In the area and want to have a drink and a few nibbles, Definately a place I would go."

"Went again this weekend and it didn't disappoint. Had the salad entree with steak-frites. Cooked exactly as requested. Tasty steak and great mustard sauce."

"I liked the space and the energy in the taverne which the staff reflected. Cocktails and service were great as we're the oysters however the food was disappointing. The beet and goat cheese salad which is now on every menu was very weak consisting of a large pile of greens, 4 of the thinnest beet slices I have ever seen with a small dollop if goat cheese. It turned me off the menue so I went for the burger which was a bit over cooked and average. Good fries though. I'm glad I didn't order a proper meal as I'm sure I would have been disappointed."

"I didn't realize until I got there that this is a hotel restaurant, but that's OK. It is attractive and well decorated, and it's right off the Old Port. I had the steak frites, which was delicious. Their house draft beer is tasty as well."

"The restaurant was rustic, cosy and welcoming--we loved the modern tavern look. Our party of 11 had comfortable seating while enjoying conversation--the restaurant was full but not too loud that we couldn't hear each other. Drinks and appetizers were served with little wait. The waiter was kind to let us know how long until the main courses would be served. The oyster bar was fresh and did not disappoint. I shared with my bf the beef tartare and lobster rolls as appetizers: both delicious and fresh. As a main course, we had the pan seared scallops and the moroccan lamb shank: they were melt in your mouth amazing. And finally for dessert, we had the pudding chomeur and the molten chocolate cake: we practically licked our plates! YUMMY!!"

"It's the second time we go. Both times in a group. The second time we got free shots which really made our night, and the bourbon BBQ burger was amazing. We'd go again."

"Great Tavern scene! Love the decor and the ambiance. The noise level was just right! Ribs were good! Cod fritters were delicious! Beef Tartare was ok!
Would definitely go back with friends!"

"Good ambiance love the cosy atmosphere salad wasnt that great, steak was ordered medium and came medium-rare. had to be sent back. the stuffed chicken was extremely oily and i believe that they forgot to stuff it! lol the menu is good but the chef(s) has long way to go. decent for most average places in the greater montreal but for old montreal scene with all its foodie places and intense competition... for the price also, i would suggest for the chef to undergo some kind of training because menu is well put together. not for foodies at all service was AMAZING!!!! eric was out of this world! great asset to establishment i would still go back but just for perhaps drinks only"

"Ate breakfast here as part of our stay at Auberge du Vieux-Port, and it did not disappoint. The service was very friendly, the food was tasty and reasonably-priced, and the atmosphere was awesome. Also had drinks the night before, and their house beer was excellent, while cocktails were relatively strong and full of flavor."

"Food was ok, nothing super impressive, but good. Service was good, but maybe because we where a group, I haven't really felt the waiter was present, I've barely noticed him. But in general, the place is really nice, great ambiance, will definitely go back !"

"Good restaurant, nothing particularly exceptional but everything is well executed, the food tastes very good, the service is friendly, and the decor is adequate. I ordered French onion soup with a burger, while my girlfriend had oysters and ribs. The oysters were simply delicious. My soup was a bit too buttery but was tasty and satisfying. The burgers and ribs were good, but were also a bit greasy. Still, I would go there again. Finally, they have Sainte Ambroise Scotch Ale on the menu, whichever is always a plus."

"Our dinner for 4 at Taverne Caspar was outstanding. I was looking for pub/bar atmosphere (energetic, not high-end dull), but with excellent food...and that's exactly what we got! Great Old Port atmosphere, with a server who was the perfect combination of attentive and friendly. We chose from the Happening Gourmand menu, and each choice (onion soup, lobster sliders, braised lamb shank, steak frites) was done to perfection. I would go back again, and would love to experience the place when the large doors with a view to the water are open! The hassle free on line booking with Open Table was a first, and is something I would do again."
