Gary's on Spring is a casual fine dining restaurant set in a two story brick building built in 1885. We have dining on the main floor with a walk-out covered patio. Moving upstairs you will find a bar/lounge with couches and exposed brick walls, accompanied by an open air deck to enjoy alfresco cocktails and dining.

"It doesn't get much better than the upstairs patio at Gary's, I always come in and have a Bourbon at the bar then meander out to the patio for dinner. The wine list has something for everyone, the bar is well stocked with bourbons and the menu is spectacular. I had the Grouper, the portion was small but appropriate. I try something new every time I go and they have not failed me yet."

"This was one of the worst dining experiences that I have ever had. My date had soap in his water glass. Both of our entrees were burnt to the point that all I could taste was burnt flavor. I thought, "Well, at least dessert should be ok." None of the options available on the online menu were actually available, so I ordered the lemon cream puff that tasted like is came from the frozen food section at Kroger. The fruit was obviously from a frozen fruit medley, and tasted of freezer burn. Furthermore, the service was on the slow side. Friendly, but very slow, especially considering the place was almost empty.
I was so embarrassed that I brought my date here. I've never written a bad review before, but this experience was really bad."

"There were several places in Louisville I wanted to try while in town for derby and settled on Gary's because it wasn't Downtown. Everything I tried was better than average with the oysters Rockefeller just short of great, and I was really pleased with my pork chop as the main dish. My dining companions enjoyed their food as well.
Only complaint is that the server went between aloof and overly aggressive. It didn't ruin the experience, but it was awkward."

"Had a fantastic dinner at Gary's on Spring Derby evening. The food was out of this world - especially the Eggplant! The Mussels were outstanding as was the Grouper. The service was exceptional. "Went right after Oaks Race and were very early for our reservation, but they took us right away & we had a lovely table outside. Got a few nice appetizers and then the rain that blew in sideways, came all of a sudden. We tried moving in closer to the door, but were still getting wet so we went in to a very crowded restaurant that didn't have any seats for a party of 6. They were hustling around trying to get us something while we stood by the door for about 10-15min. The rain quit luckily and we went back out & they set up a new table. Our food was very good, even though we were delayed much later than we hoped to be(through no fault of the restaurant). Great place to go!"

"Everything was perfect on a night before the Kentucky Oaks. There were 8 of us and they served us attentively . The Great Chef stopped by to say hello. What a dinner. Bison ribeye was superb, as we're the mussels and potato encrusted grouper. Highly recommend. We will return."

"I love supporting locally owned restaurants especially when the food taste great. And the atmosphere matches the food quality. Gary's is very relaxing, quaint spot off the beaten path (just a little). The servers know the menu, and provide impeccable service. I've been there twice and I plan on going back."

"We ate upstairs around 5:45 pm. Seats at the bar were nearly all taken, but only a few of the tables were occupied when we arrived. Liked the club-like ambiance we first felt. Unfortunately, mid-way through the meal a large family arrived with a young child, who got into a couple of crying spells. Nothiing the restaurant could do about this...and the parents did ultimately satisfy the child's needs."

"I've been to Gary's numerous times and I've always enjoyed each visit. On my reservation, I requested a four top table for the extra elbow room to review some papers, since this wasn't a date or anything. However, the hostess presented us with a small, two top table. I asked for something else, and it wasn't available at the time even though several tables appeared to be open. Just as I expected, once the drinks, bread and salads arrived, we had a crowded table and no space to look at some needed papers that we wanted to review. The meal and drinks were good, however, we left a little frustrated since had to review our papers in the car."

"Four of us dined at Gary's on Spring Friday night. I was my pick because of the chef's reputation in town and reviews I'd read. We all were grossly disappointed with our dinner. Three of us ordered the scallop entrée at the suggestion of the waiter. The scallops were blackened so we knew to expect spicy but the spice overwhelmed the dish and the scallops were gritty. Yuck. One of us requested it prepared less spicy, which was no doubt dismissed in preparation as she could not eat it at all. The other person tried the Bison ribeye that was eatable but overcooked. We frequently enjoy upscale/casual dinning in town and comparatively we could not recommend Gary's. It was overrated and overpriced."

Two of us dining, we had scallop dish that was amazingly flavorful & scallops were seared perfectly. We also had pork chop with grilled peaches & glaze that was yummy-licious! Only problem was we had one bone & 2 dogs at home. Mgr checked on us & found us an xtra pork chop bone for our 2nd dog which kept us from having a huge problem at home. Planning another trip to Gary's to check their upstairs bar, outdoor deck & entertainment!"

"We went to Gary's for my 32nd birthday, we decided to take our 2 year old (who was very well behaved thankfully) but the only downfall was that they did not have children's cups/ lids, so this cause a bit of a problem. But other than that we enjoyed every last detail of the evening! Very nice service, yummy food, and relaxing environment."

"We love the overall ambiance and service from Gary's on Spring. The wait staff is very attentative. The lobster bisque is exceptional, the chicken fritters were a bit bland without the tangy sauce. Our two entrees could also use more spices - salmon had a lot going on with many vegetables, however the taste of the fish itself, bland. The chicken fricase has a wonderful blueberry sauce on top, however, again, the chicken seemed to lack some spice."

"Was there Friday night for first time. Staff very frendly. Two margaritas from the bar were very good. Hot Brown Appetizer was wonderful. The Ceasar Salad was disappointment - small plate of not so fresh salad that was very dry. Not worth the $8 price. Husband ordered Scallops and was very pleased. I ordered the shrimp..very tasty except my pasta was swimming in the sauce. Little too much. Overall good dinner and nice place to go. Maybe its just me....but I wish that restaurants would ban using fake whipped butter that comes with bread. Sometimes its the little things with me :)

"I have been here before and everything was great but on last visit the service was poor.. After waiting for a looong time for a server to appear, I asked someone passing if we could get cocktails and she said she would get our waitress. Time passed. The same person came by again and I said can we just go to the bar and get a drink then and she told the bartender( we were sitting close) and he came over to take our drink order. The waitress eventually showed up and gave an excuse of how everyone had come in at the same time and was hard to serve everyone. We had reservations so there should have been no element of surprise there!! It was game night so management should know when the masses will appear and have adequate staff ."

"The restaurant was very nice. The food was exellent. Other than the upstairs area being dark and smelling like smoke, we had a wonderful exprerience. "We went to Gary's on the recommendation of an acquaintance from work. The atmosphere and service staff were very nice. Our server, Taylor, was exceptional, and we were extremely pleased with her timing of our courses, her assistance in wine selection, her attention to our needs, and she was genuinely interested in taking care of us.
The cuisine was disappointing. The lobster bisque had a skin on the surface when served, so had obviously been sitting under a warming light too long and the lobster bits were too salty. My sea bass was OK, but not exceptional. My partner's lamb was overcooked, and the potato served with it was raw. I strongly doubt we'll return."
