"The food was great, the experience was not so great.
This is a hidden gem on the campus of College of DuPage. It's part of their Culinary School and the students run it. For $22 you get an appetizer, soup, salad, entree and dessert. They have soda and wine for beverages and they are extra. They have red and white wine. You get what they have and it's a bottle or red or white, no choices. You NEED a reservation.
Our food was really good. There were 5 tables seating 10 each and then our table of 2 by the kitchen door. This was a terrible set up for us as well as the servers. The servers couldn't really access the tables well and we kept getting knocked by the servers."

"The Wheat Cafe is a restaurant run by the culinary students at COD. Everything from food preparation to kitchen clean-up is done by the students. This includes the making of the bread, bread sticks and dinner rolls, and the entire dinner from appetizer through dessert. The salmon entree was cooked to perfection although it could have been a tad warmer when served. For dessert, I had the tiramsu and my husband had the poached pear with a napolean. Beverages were refiiled often. Our wait staff person, Ashley, did a wonderful job describing the menu. This is a good place to "test the water" and taste the food budding chefs are preparing. A throughly delightful experience. We will be back."

"I wish more people knew about this! The food is fantastic, the servers extremely professional and attentive, and it is all bargain priced. We have attended the culinary dinners a few times every year and are never disappointed. A five course dinner with dessert for under $25!"

"The food selections and service were wonderfully excellent as always. The ambience is as good as possible considering the place's physical constrictions and lack of an inspiring outside view simply due to its location. I had the cuban sandwich, mushroom salad, senate bean soup, and cheesecake with figs. My husband had the tilapia with poblano sauce, the same salad as my wife, the corn chowder, and the profiteroles. With but one exception the foods were truly excellent! That single exception was the profiteroles which, because of having been frozen, had the pastry somewhat rock hard and decidedly more so than the few others I've experieced elsewhere. The taste was fine, but that oversight made the profiteroles only average at best."

"I have come to the student run luncheons for many many years since they first began on West Campus. I have to say that this one was really disappointing. First of all iced tea (2 glasses?) we're spilled on one of our group. This can happen anywhere. Not fun. Then her order was mixed up. Another guest ordered hot tea and when the wait staff poured ht water into the tea pot it splashed out alitte bit. When the soup was served, the bowls were smudged with soup on the outside. Ick. In all, the meal was great as always and after 20 years or so of coming to these I can't complain. I think the messy soup bowls was the crowner. I have and will always support our students. Please remind them to wipe off the smudges and splatters in life. :-)"

"This restaurant is run by students in the culinary arts program at COD. They prepare a limited menu of 5 couses with a choice between 2 items in each category. The menu changes every 3 weeks and we have not been disappointed. The students do a very good job in preparing and serving. This gives them first hand experience in working in a restaurant that is more than a family style type restaurant. The meal costs $22 and a 6 ounce glass of wine is $6. S

"Hospitality and culinary students run the restaurant as a class. The positive energy exhibited was contagious! The students (and a very professional teaching staff) provided a wonderful four course luncheon at a very affordable price! Other luncheon and dinner opportunities also run by students are available ---schedules are based on classes--so dates of operation do change. I called to be put on an email notification list."
