In 1984, Rosa Mexicano set a new standard for Mexican cuisine when it first opened in New York City. Playing a leading role in defining what was then a "new" cuisine to American diners, Rosa Mexicano delivers authentic Mexican cooking in an accessible, stylishly festive atmosphere. Rosa Mexicano's menu features a range of award-winning signature dishes, including our Guacamole en Molcajete, prepared in a traditional lava rock mortar. Described by Time Out New York as "green ecstasy in a stone bowl," it is prepared table side and served with house made chips, warm corn tortillas and condiment salsas. Rosa Mexicano is also known for the Frozen Pomegranate Margarita, as well as the stylish and festive ambiance that includes the 15 foot water wall.
"I would say that this restaurant would be great for dinner. the menu that was selected for brunch sounded really good but overall wasn't that great. I would recommend this restaurant just for dinner and or even just to have a drink."

"I love this place! I always went to this place in New York City and it never disappoints. I have been to this location quite a few times since moving out here a year ago. I have always had great food and the service is great as well."

"The food was good, but a bit over-priced (as is standard for the Sunset Strip). I had the fish tacos, which were delicious. The chicken enchiladas were lacking a bit of flavor. The margaritas come in small child-sized cups, that was disappointing. The service was good, but not great. The atmosphere is the best thing this place has going for it. Great location with a really cool vibe inside; almost has a lounge-feel to it. Love the lights behind the bar. Rosa Mexicano is a great place to hang out with a group of friends if you're looking for over-priced Contemporary Mexican-American food."

"Like other Rosas, the food here is good and unique for Mexican. But the last two times I've been there, the service has been poor despite a relatively empty restaurant and apparent surplus of waiters. The place also feels dead. It's right off Sunset in West Hollywood, but someone manages to capture none of the Hollywood vibe. Too pricey for product."

"So disappointed....love this restaurant chain, go to it everytime I'm in NY, but this was not a great experience. I (unfortunately) recommended the Filet with Tequila Mushroom Sauce to my friend (which I've had many time in NY, and LOVED). It was horrible...sauce was nothing like what I've had before, and the steak was overcooked. However, my dish was very good, much more what I expected at Rosa Mexicano! I continue to be a fan of the concept, but likely wont return to this location."

"The food was decent, but certainly overpriced. The margarita was really great as was the service. It was pretty empty when we went (on a friday night... yikes!) so everybody had time to pay attention to us and it wasn't too noisy. Overall it's not bad, but not anything particularly special."

"This was a bad experience from start to finish. We chose to dine at rosa Mexicano because of previous good experiences at the New York restaurant. But there's no excuse for being told, in a Mexican restaurant, that they are out of cheese! After a very long wait in an almost empty restaurant, they did eventually find enough cheese to make quesadillas for my two daughters. As if that wasn't enough, by the next morning, the 3 of us at the table who had eaten the guacamole had severe stomach issues. Maybe a bit too reminiscent of a trip to Mexico... My best advice about Rosa Mexicano Sunset is stay away!!!!"

"This was recommended to me by a coworker for a romantic Valentine's Day dinner. Everyone was warm, courteous, helpful and the atmosphere was, indeed, very romantic. A guitar player, who serenaded, was perfect; not too loud or intrusive, just right. The disappointing thing was the food. The fresh guacamole dip and chips were exceptional, but I wasn't thrilled with our entrees. I had one of the iron skillet dishes and my date had the salmon. In fairness, my date loved the salmon; said it was the best he'd ever had. I tasted it and thought it was fair. I barely touched my meal; doggy bagged it and gave it to my date. So A+ for Atmosphere and Guac, but a C- for Food. I'd return for cocktails and appetizers."

"I am not a big Mexican food fan but I loved the place. The food was amazing and service was great. They got a great bar. I will go back for sure. One thing make sure you are not more than party of 4."

"The food and drinks are amazing I would go back if it weren't for the bad service. Our waiter took forever to take our order. We asked specifically no cheese on a certain plate and it was covered with cheese. We were never asked if we needed a refill on drinks and when I asked for water it never came. Yes, I understand I'm not getting my food for free, but I am a paying customer; therefore I should get what I'm paying for. At one point I want to say the manager walked up our table just to pick up plates and left. I would think twice about going back or even telling a friend to go there for dinner."

"Our first time there, the staff was outstanding in making us feel welcome. The chef came out with a treat for us. She introduced herself and was very personel. We sat outside in the patio. Had a very relaxing lunch. No one rushed us as we were there for 2 1/2 hours. Wish they open up in Pasadena or Glendale."

"Having first eaten at Rosa Mexicano's Manhattan location, I was eager to try this one closer to home. It meets the design and ambiance standards of the New York restaurant, but the food had one major miss. Tortilla soup and skirt steak were very good. The chicken flautas appetizer was enormous and tasty with two spicy sauces, both delicious. The one failure was shrimp brochette served on brown rice with a red tomatillo sauce. The sauce was great but the shrimp were overcooked, that is to say rubbery. Ordinarily, I would have sent it back, but because I was taking a friend out for his birthday, I didn't want to ruin the pace of the meal and said nothing. Their light flavorful flan is a great dessert. Service was attentive and friendly."

"The host did not record our arrival in Open Table, so we were categorized as a no-show, even though we gave our name and she consulted the computer. Our guacamole person was great, and it was delicious. The sauce for the chicken enchiladas was too sweet. Our server did not know much about the DineLA menu. She was very sweet, but seemed a bit underdressed. I didn't see any other servers, so I don't know if this is the general attire. However, the hostess was dressed nicely, while our server looked like she should be working at an outdoor taco stand. Also, our reservation was at 7pm, and there was no ambient music. But at about 8pm, they suddenly turned on very loud music. Other patrons seemed to notice, as well."
