"Our second time at Vignola did not disappoint. Began the meal with a cheese platter which is always fun to indulge in. We both had a pasta entree which did not sacrifice taste for the ample portion that was served. The only issue with Vignola is the noise level can get high and private conversation can be difficult. Our server Wendy was a delight. Overall, the experience is excellent and we will return."

"We've been eating at Cinque Terra and now Vignola & Cinque Terra for years and you can always count on a good meal. The staff is friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is lovely and the food is some of the best in Portland."

"The restaurant has a front and back room which feel like youre on 2 different planets. We asked the hostess if we could dine at the bar Instead of the lonely table in the back room which housed a private party; she rolled her eyes and scornfully brought our menus back to the front. Outside of Katelin at the bar who is a fabulous one woman band, the other servers left us feeling like we were a burden for having sat down. I stopped counting the number of times they bumped into my chair without acknowledging me or offering us another table when the night slowed down."

"i have been to Vignola several times int the past and always loved the food and the service. But my son and I went for lunch last Sunday and the service was interminable slow and the food was not up to the level we experienced in the past. They couldn't do an egg white omelet, the pork in the omelet was dry, the drinks were watery and the bread was very dry. Several people just left after sitting for an hour and not getting their food. Not sure how much of that is new chef's or new manager or the combining of Cinque Terra and Vignola, but the little gem Vignola is off our list of go to restaurants."

"Vignolia use to be a great restaurant. They use to have a fantastic beer list which is now horrible. The menu use to be inventive and exciting. And the pizza options were always delicious. Our table of 4 ( foodies) could not find one thing we wanted to eat;( So bummed. Great location, but with the amazing restaraunt scene in Portland it is no longer worth it. We ended up having drinks and leaving to have dinner somewhere else. Also the hostess was incredibly rude. Never going back."

"Recently took friends from out of town to dinner on a Friday evening. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we knew it was going to be too noisy. We were seated in an upstairs corner next to a brick wall from which all sounds reverberated. All agreed that the food was excellent but also agreed that we would not return soon because the high noise level was a big negative."

"I took my mother here for Mother's Day. The food was delicious and the service was great. Our only complaint was that the food took a while. This surprised me since it seemed like it wasn't that busy. Other than that, I willl be back!"

"This was our third meal in Portland over a long weekend, and by far the best. We dined at some of the other highly recommended places before this, but Vignola was exceptional. Service was very good but not hovering - it really bugs me when someone is there too much, tells you more than you want to know, asks more times than they should if everything is ok - but that was not the case here. Friendly, helpful, but not over the top.
The food was just spectacular - squid, berkshire sausage on polenta (who would have thought a sausage could be so exceptional), duck, cornish game hen, good wines at fair prices, a decent vinsanto to finish the evening - just lovely! The food matched the best I've had in the northeast - Brooklyn, Philadelphia, etc."

"Atmosphere is great, I really liked the space, but the food was a complete disappointment.We started with the prosciutto & pheasant mushrooms and beef carpaccio salad--while the prosciutto was bland, the beef carpaccio was delicious-the flavors combined beautifully. The mussels & shrimp in the Trenette were cooked perfectly but we both were stymied by how al dente the pasta was--I needed to saw through the ravioli with my knife. The waiter was surprised when I asked for a knife, but I explained that I couldn't get a bite with just my fork. Same with the Trenette-which my companion called a bowl of cement with great flavor. We expressed our disappointment to our waiter, but he had no response.Needless to say, we went elsewhere for dessert."

"On our recent visit to the Old Port, we had an excellent meal at Cinque Terre! Our party of four tried everything from the pasta to seafood to meat and each was excellent. Ingredients, were fresh everything was cooked to our liking and the spicing/sauces were tasty but not overbearing. If you prefer a quieter dining experience, ask for a table in the back room."

"This was our first time in the combined restaurants. The food and service were just as great as Cinque Terra. If your looking for a quiet dinner this is no longer the place to go. Seated next to the bar, we felt encroached on and though energetic, it was way too load for a romantic dinner. We will probably come again but we will certainly be more selective of a table. And we had reservations! Why should we not have gotten a better table?"

"We arrived at 4:45 for a 5:00 reservation. Someone from the bar yelled over that seating does not start until 5:00. I yelled back we had a reservation at 5:00. Someone finally walked over so I asked if we could just sit at our table and wait for the other party. Finally, we were taken to our table. Staff was not as friendly as they could have been (busy trying to put on airs). Food was good but not as spectacular as the staff pretended it was."

"I have been to the restaurant a number of times and was coming back while on a visit to Portland. I had made a reservation. When I arrived we were seated in the back room where there was no one but us while there were tables available in the front section with better light. I did not like that.
I am not a "regular" and perhaps they were holding the other tables for others with reservations.
Food was very good."

"Our server was friendly and helpful, the food was very good. A couple of small details were missed (no syrup came with my pancakes, I had to ask for it, and the amount brought was miniscule). The coffee could have been hotter. My friend ordered a side order of toast, which was not needed as his entree came with toast.... the server could have "caught" this and suggested he order a different side. The sides for meat choices were limited (bacon only). Overall, we had a very good experience, despite these small issues."

"Great local, neighborhood place. But go before May, after October, so you can get in. Very Good bar. Tasty. Pricey wine, but they'll help you and are all quite knowledgable. Kitchen works hard. "Strong sense that this restaurant has declined over the past two years or so. The back room (Cinque Terre space) smells like a dishwasher, not terrible but not optimal. Also, portions are too large and quality a little low. Service is rushed although when you get face time with the waiter or waitress, they are nice.
The biggest problme for V/CT is that other options in Portland are so good. I plan to avoid V/CT in the future."

"We had brunch here on St. Patrick's day and it was very quiet. I think it's more popular for dinner, and on that particular day everyone in Porland was in Irish pubs! The food was excellent. I had lemon ricotta pancakes with Maine blueberries - delicious. My daughter had shirred eggs with vegetables that came piping hot in a small cast iron skillet; she loved her dish., too. They have an incredible cheese program, so we started with a trio of the special cheese offering that day. Nice brunch cocktails and wines by the glass. As to service, well...the young man who waited on us seemed to have celebrated St. Paddy's the evening prior. He spoke so quietly we could barely hear him and had zero energy. Would definitely try dinner here next."

"I really enjoy the space that Vignola occupies - exposed brick, big windows, great lighting - it's really beautiful. The service was good, very prompt and courteous. The coffee was great, and the food was very good."

"Dissapointed! There is not feel of anything above average. Although the food was delicious! Waited fair amount of time before waitress acknowledged us and then took a long time for cocktails. Unacceptable! Nothing that would bring me back with the choices in Portland where if you arrive at a table you are welcomed immediately by waitstaff."

"Went for restaurant week and was seated in the old Cinque Terre loft area. Service was terrible; waited a ridiculous amount of time for drinks. Staff continually walked by to bus tables but they should have been serving the current patons. Received our bill and then waited again far too long to close out. The waitress' excuse was that she thought she had already closed us out. Food was good but service was terrible."

"My sister's birthday conveniently fell during 'Maine Restaurant Week,' and we were most interested by the specials here. As with all past experiences at Vignola and Cinque Terre, everything was top notch. The food was exceptional, the service attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere was elegant without feeling pretentious. A wonderful night from start to finish. Highly recommend."

"This was one of the best dining experiences that we've had. The food was perfectly prepared and was one of the best meals that we can remember. Hands down, one of the best steaks that I've ever had. I almost didn't let my wife try a bite for loss of that bite. Her pork loin was amazing, which she let me taste, without as much hesitation.
We were seated promptly at the time of our reservation. Our servers manner was what you hope for at a restaraunt, attentive but not rushing anything. Also, her knowledge of the menu and all that goes into it was very helpful in our meal selection.
Finally, the dessert was the ultimate end to a perfect meal. Two thumbs up is not enough for this restaraunt!"

"The food was exciting and absolutely delicious. The burrata cheese, the ravioli, and the creme brûlée were out of this world. The only disappointing thing was having to wait for our table for fifteen minutes when we had a late 9 pm reservation and it seemed there were several tables open. The pappardelle was stuck together as well. But overall the food was fantastic and great for a special occasion. Would go back!"

"I live in Maine. I saw Vignola & Cinque Terre on the Food Network with Chuck Hughes. A business associate and I tried it last Friday (March 1, 2013). The lunch menu is a little limited, but it does not lack for variety. There were 5 items I wanted to try. I decided on the rigatoni. I was originally from NYC. I am a snob about Italian food. Vignola' rigatoni was fabulous. My business associate tried their specialty pizza. He gave me a piece. It was perfect. Along with the food, our service was great. Our waiter was perfect. Good suggestions ... very knowledgeable about the menu ... there when you needed him ... left us alone when we were talking business. Finally, the price. Very affordable. I will go back"

"After being disappointed with Vignola several years ago I decided there was no need return. Now that they have combined restaurants with Cinque Terre I decided to once again give them a try during Restaurant Week. I'm glad I did. All three courses were extraordinarily flavorful especially the monkfish entre. My wife thought her pork loin was a little tough, but that was the only complaint. I'm so glad because this is one of the prettiest locations in town. We'll go back for sure."
