Hugo's Restaurant
Located at the edge of Portland’s historic Old Port District, Hugo’s is just steps away from Casco Bay. As such, we are committed to New England seafood, produce, livestock, and wild flora, our kitchen offers a menu that is both an expression of region and personality. Bar snacks and à la carte offerings greet diners with the opportunity to navigate for themselves between whimsy and refinement. The ever-changing blind tasting menu, offered in both six and eight courses, forgoes the burden of choice: it is the purest distillation of Hugo’s cuisine.
Whether it is an evening of gastronomic indulgence, or a casual cocktail and a board of craft charcuterie, Hugo’s staff welcomes the occasion. Abandoning the stiff formality of fine-dining, we cultivate a sense of warmth and hospitality measured not by a mission statement, but in an interaction, a conversation.

"Although their Prix Fixe was 1/2 price - $45 per person - and it was tasty, I rated the food as only "good" for the price. My husband explained he was lactose intolerant and was assured that his plates would be suited to his diet, but that turned out not to be the case. Timing was off on both cocktails and coffee service, leaving one person waiting 5-10 minutes after everyone else each time."

"Loved Hugos. Very good and creative food preparation. Excellent and professional staff, very friendly and accommodating. My only complaint is that the food was salted on the heavier side. I think this is easily solved by requesting in advance to go lighter on the salt. Knowing this I don't think you can go wrong with this choice. Parking also seemed to be pretty easy to find which is important when in the city."

"We had a lovely evening at Hugo's with the six-course tasting menu and the wine parings. We loved the inventiveness of the food, the fact that everything was delicious. the obvious passion of the kitchen and waitstaff for their work and the dining experience. We were lucky enough to dine when they were offering a two-for-one midwinter deal for the tasting menu. Much as we loved the meal, I'm inclined to agree that at full price the tariff is a bit steep."

"The meal my wife and I ate at Hugo's the other night was by far the best dining experience we have ever had. While the portions are small (for a reason), the quality of the products were so fresh and delicious it did not matter. We had the six course meal and I was perfectly content afterwards. The service was impeccable and the waiters were friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend Hugo's to anyone for any special occasion. Delicious!"
