Alexander's Steakhouse - SF
San Francisco is the second installment of Alexander's Steakhouse. Located in the SOMA district of the city, near AT&T Park, and under the direction of Executive Chef Marc Zimmerman, Alexander's Steakhouse is a welcome addition to the city dining scene offering a fine dining interpretation of the classic American steakhouse with hints of Japanese influence throughout the menu. Alexander's boasts the largest and most diverse selection of Japanese Wagyu in the country, for domestic beef we offer a variety of classic cuts such as Porterhouse, T-bone and New York, we specialize in Prime Certified Angus Beef grain-fed from the Mid-West. We also highlight dry-aged steaks and offer the finest and most luxurious products available including a tasting menu and an award winning wine list designed by Wine Director, Johnny Slamon.

"Alexander's Steakhouse in SF is excellent and easily matches their other locations.
Definitely on the pricey side, but we went for a business dinner so all is well :-)
Long gone are the fois gras goodies they used to have, but the bone marrow is a must-have excellent substitute - we all had one on the side and never looked back.
Steaks were great, of course, as were the cocktails (nice bourbon selection!). Desert was yummy and the service was fantastic.

"Alexander's Steakhouse has now become my favorite steakhouse. The meat was delicious and the desserts were out of this world! After the main course and before dessert, they served us orange-flavored cotton candy. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I'm going to start going here rather than the steakhouse on Van Ness or on Embarcadero!! It was worth every penny!!"

"I had an opentable gift certificate and thought this would be the perfect place to redeem it. It was! The food was amazing, and there were a lot of little unexpected extras that made the evening even more memorable. The Hamachi shots are a must try, we couldn't stop eating the truffle fries, and of course the filet melted in your mouth. Definitely would go here again for a special occasion. There were a coup,e of tables with kids, but I wouldn't recommend bringing them."

"We had dinner here last week. The service was impeccable and the food was very good, but not outstanding as one would expect for the prices charged. There were only a few occupied tables. The outside of the restaurant is poorly lit and in a rather rundown area. We came out around 8:30 pm and walked three blocks to the condo we were renting and literally saw no one. It was rather eerie. We are not sure we would return. We expected more from a very expensive restaurant."

"We had an amazing night at Alexander's. We were celebrating our 15th anniversary and the staff made it a very special evening. Everyone is so polished and professional and they hit you with loads of little special touches throughout the night. Champagne, little bacon rolls I could go on and on. I told our server Jeffrey we were saltaholics in hopes that he would bring us the salt trio I read about and he brought us a twelve salt tasting!!! The pastry chef made us this amazing plate which we took pictures of in short we were completely blown away. The food was delicious too Bibb salad with bacon, 15oz dry aged ribeye and truffle fries yum!!!"

"Greeted warmly we were brought to a quiet and elegant booth. Since our reservation was at 5:30 PM, the large, high ceilinged dining area was very quiet. I was entertained by the open kitchen. The 'cooks' created a very positive ambiance. Our wait staff was knowledgeable, naturally warm, but professional.
Both of us ordered the Prime Rib and shared an appetizer and salad. The Prime Rib was perfect. The meat was incredibly tender, and very simply dressed with chopped chives as a garnish. Three types of horseradish 'traditional', harissa=flavored, and garlic infused complimented the meat. The yukon gold potato- creamily delicious.
We were served complimentary cotton candy (!) and 3 delicious amuse bouche! Terrific!"

"Husband and I went as an anniversary gift. Service was outstanding. Ordered hamachi shots-delicious! Also tried broccoli cheese soup, very tasty. Both ate steaks, dry-aged ribeye and ny strip, flavorful and huge portions. Sides were ramps, mac and cheese,and truffle fries. Liked them all, but favorite were truffle fries. Had chocolate coconut for dessert, also very good. Loved that we could see beautiful kitchen in. Overall an incredible dining experience."

"This was an excellent dinner. Our server was extremely helpful in describing to us the attributes and relative merits of each cut/style of steak with all manner of class with very little pretension. "We have not been back to this restaurant for while, and found that several dishes have been changed by the additional of the Japanese citrus spice Yuzu. We actually liked the original mushroom side dish better than its newer incarnation. The steaks were cooked to perfection though the dry-aging seemed to have resulted in a slightly firmer meat."

"Alexander's used to be my favorite restaurant, but the food quality seems to have gone downhill lately. My latest experience was disappointing. Appetizers and drinks were nothing special. I also ordered a "surf and turf" special, and when it arrived, my steak was luke-warm, and the plate had two very tiny pieces of lobster.
The food at Alexander's is still good, but I consider it to be way overpriced now for what you get. Service is now the star here, but food is more important to me, and I think you can find better value elsewhere. Time to find a new favorite restaurant."

"A real disappointment! We will not return! We were warmly greeted by both the Valet and the Host! We had a reservation and were seated
promptly! It was all down hill after that.
We ordered a very nice bottle of Pinot Noir. We thought it interesting that our wine had been decanted and then brought to our table.
It is customary in the finest of restaurants to first offer the bottle to the guest (for approval) followed by decanting. Our wine was poured for tasting.
We believed our selection was not what was poured. We questioned our wait person. He stepped away from our table and returned immediately to apologize that the wrong wine had been decanted. He proceeded to provide what we had ordered. We then moved on to the menu. Als"

"We discovered Alexander's through Open Table. We are really not steakhouse people, but the ratings were so good, we thought "Why not?" Turns out it was perfect for us. It really isn't just a steakhouse. It has a major Japanese influence, which thrilled us because it is our favorite cuisine. We were greeted by a very kind, informative waiter. He was so helpful. Then the sommalier came by and helped us choose a lovely wine. The wine list was really outstanding. We ended up ordering the Prix Fixe menu, which was a great choice. We had the rightfully famous Hamachi shots (OH MY WORD). The best part was that the manager took over our table, and gave us extra special treatment. The whole night was amazing, and one of the best dining experiences."

"We loved Alexander's-- from the cocktail to dessert, everything we ate was excellent to really good. You MUST order the Hamachi shooters-- they were great. The Hummingbird cocktail was also excellent. I wasn't a fan of the first amuse bouche-- it was a scallop gelee/flan although the second one (a citrus one) was very good. The meat was top notch-- I ate my entire 10 oz filet mignon even though I'm not much of a meat-eater. It was melt-in-your-mouth amazing. The dessert was mind-blowing-- sticky toffee pudding with a thai iced tea ice cream-- genius! We spent a lot of money-- even though there were only two of us and only one of us drinks (ordered 1 cocktail and 1 glass of wine)-- but for a special occassion we were very happy with our meal"

"Went to Alexander's with my boyfriend on a random Saturday evening. The service was phenomenal, the food quality was exquisite, and the ambiance was divine. We will definitely be returning. "Alexander's ticks all the right boxes, and includes a few that I hadn't even thought of. From the moment you walk in the door, you know you are in good hands. Our party was seated promptly, and from there on out every need was attended to before we could even think of it.
My bone-in ribeye steak was up there with the best I've eaten, and everyone else raved about their dish as well. Our server was professional, friendly, and helpful as were the rest of the staff.
We'll definitely be coming back!"

"I had a great experience at Alexander's. Why the 4-star? My partner and I had a 6pm reservation but was not actually seated at our table until more than 15 minutes after. I can understand if it was a packed house, but there were empty tables. I can also understand if the restaurant wanted to give us a chance to have cocktails at the bar but neither of us really drink so it was a waste of time for us. Overall, the food was nice and the service was outstanding."

""Steak House" does not begin to describe Alexander's. We were served hors douevres, surprise little snacks, breads, and vegetable dishes of a quality and appearance usually seen on "Iron Chef"!! The service was incredible. The choices of meats ranged from what one would expect at a steak house to a whole section of Waigu beef (did I spell it right?). Very expensive dinner, but worth every penny!"

"My husband and I celebrated our 7th anniversary there. It was absolutely amazing. My husband had a beautiful flower arrangement deliver before we arrived. They were set up and waiting for us in a great booth location. Our server Jayse was superb! I highly recommend this experience. Thank you to the team for making our night so special."

"We came to Alexander's Steakhouse to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was the best experience. Eric, our waiter, and Jason, his assistant and barman were fantastic. My wife, not the drinker of Gin, was told by Jason that Gin would love her. The drink he suggested was right on the money. The food was perfectly cooked. Edemame was to die for as well as the filet mignon and the ribeye steak. Our brussel sprouts were superb. Even the macaroni and cheese consisted of 4 different cheeses that was made to perfection. Even the selection of bread was magnificent fun-rolls with bits of bacon, who would have thought of it? We topped off our evening with a coffee souffle and a coffee our barrista passionately appreciated our choice."

"Service was really fine and "Hamachi shooters" sashimi appetizer recommended by waiter was excellent, pleasing even member of party who "doesn't like fish": he ate three. We ordered prime ribeyes and were very pleased; steaks were flavorful and tender. We looked at (costly) Wagyu beef choices-- be careful, Wagyu menu prices are per-3-ounces, not per steak-- but decided to come back for those another time with more friends. We appreciated little complimentary treats between courses.
Carmelized onion side dish was definitely too sweet for our taste and a bit mushy; needed less sugar, more character. (If onions truly were that sweet, chef should've considered cutting in some sharper ones.)
The bar/lounge was very nice."

"One of the best meals we have ever had. Also one of the most expensive , but totally worth it. Their regular steaks are wonderful but we also sampled a bit if the wagyu items and it was definitely worth trying . It's a whole different experience . And the sides of Brussel sprouts and fries were both great! The service was excellent and the whole experience was very special . It was my birthday , and it was a great way to spend it."

"The portion is great, but both the steak and the appetizer tend to be too salty for me and my friend, which I tend to not to wanna go back again. It's actually disappointing to compare to what we had at the one in San Jose. "A fine dining experience worth doing once.
Steak, which is their specialty was under cooked - asked for medium, got medium rare. Steak was room temp by the time it arrived at table. Side dish of mashed potato was bland, but roasted baby brussel sprouts, and mac&cheese sides were tasty.
The eclectic desert menu was not appealing to me - so I passed. But the Chef's complimentary chocolate treat tastes and cotton candy were nice alternatives.
Good/attentive staff.
I don't think the name and the reputation deserve the 2 times cost over other good American restaurants/steak houses."

"Staff were welcoming and friendly. Food was great, except the dayboat scallops we ordered for appetizer was a bit salty. However, the lobster dish and the filet mignon were amazing! The filet mignon was the best I've had in my life! It was tender and cooked to perfection. We also had the amazing truffle fries and a bottle of Pinot which complimented our dish. We also loved the small dish surprises compliments of the chef. Other than the luxurious prices, we would definitely come back!"

"This is a tough one...if the prices had been half - and I do mean fully half - of what they were, I would've thought it a nice place. But the prices were borderline silly, which in my book invites a higher level of scrutiny. So: cocktails were good, but considering it took a full 25 minutes before they were delivered (on a not-busy Tuesday night), and when they were, it was without apology or even acknowledgment of the delay, I think that qualifies as poor service. Our waiter (at the table) was terrific - professional, knowledgeable, unpretentious - and the food was fine, but again, at these prices (three figures for a steak?), I would've expected a molecular gastronomical extravaganza. No dice."
