An upscale, casual bistro with many dining areas; one with a beautiful fireplace & a lively year-round outdoor terrace featuring approachable, Southern French cuisine.Outdoor seating is not guaranteed at the time of your reservation. The name Vin de Set comes from the phonetic spelling of the French number 2017, the address on Chouteau Avenue. Situated on the roof of a national historic landmark just minutes from downtown St. Louis, Vin de Set offers an expansive open-air deck for dining and outdoor bar, indoor dining rooms and a breathtaking indoor bar. The design is inspired by 19th century architecture which features vaulted ceilings, exposed brick and towering arched windows with panoramic views of the arch, Union Station and downtown St. Louis. The marriage of the existing structure, modern finishes, seasonal classic cuisine of southern France which creates a distinctive atmosphere & culinary experience.

"We were celebrating a birthday and had a wonderful experience. For a slight up charge we could have brought our own homemade birthday cake.
Three of the four people are on a gluten free diet. The restaurant had a separate menu that offered enough choices to please everyone. The white salmon dinner was OUTSTANDING!!"

"Rooftop dining on a beautiful evening. Very busy place. Service was slow. Food was a mix. Most of my group enjoyed their food. Fish and prime rib were very well liked. Mine was okay. Not outstanding. The heirloom tomato salad had little tomato and doused in too much balsamic vinegar. My steak was very bland with no seasoning. I have dined here three times and seem to make the wrong dining choices."

"Slightly Disappointed!
The experience was challenged! The trout did not have sear marks and the first food delivered was not ours! Recommend that the food servers be tested on pivot points and the correct tables numbers to avoid confusion! I will be back but I can pay for better service at a less expensive restaurant!"

"Vin de Set has an awesome rooftop seating area and seemed to have plentiful parking.
We started off with the bread and yummy rosemary butter. The stuffed zucchini appetizer was okay, if not a bit bland. I had the coffee smoked pork which was good; the accompanying gnocchi was good too. My wife had the homemade roasted pepper noodles which she liked but didn't think they were spectacular. We finished with the cheesecake and coffee, which we raved about for the next few hours.
The service was just awesome. Our water glasses never got close to empty, and the servers appeared to work together to clear tables. The waitress was friendly and enthusiastic."

"Sea food was old and smelled bad. Every time sea food was bright to a nearby table, we were engulfed with the smell. Staff was friendly and worked hard. Did a good job. We had a toddler with us, and they were great with her. We were there to celebrate a family milestone with our son and his family, wanted to give them a great meal. Everything was good except the food. They advertised that they specialized in fresh seafood cooked by a gourmet chief. Not true. Not worth the cost!!! We paid for gourmet."

"I have been to Vin de Set many times and unfortunately was let down at dinner last weekend. I had the Moroccan spiced prawns (a special). I knew that they would arrive with the shells and heads on, however you would think that if they are going to serve hands-on food that they would provide you with wet towels/towelettes. No such luck. Fail. I could have gotten past that mistake if the prawns were good, but they were overlooked and dried out. Too bad. My fiancé had the eggplant Napoleon. They served it to him with the tower having either fallen over in the kitchen or on the way to the table. Sloppy. Again, if the flavor had been fantastic we could have ignored that detail, but it lacked flavor and was just okay. Disappointing."

"Was in town for a conference and a friend recommended Vin de Set. Had a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Food was appealing to the eye and palette; server was knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairing and unimposing. Since this was my first time eating there, my only thought was to wonder how often the menu changes. Fresh catch Thursday lived up to my expectations. Definitely good eats!"

"Loved the entire dining experience. We were not rushed through our meal. Unlike most restaurants, we finished one course before the other was brought out. The dining area was exceptionally clean and attractive despite being outdoors. Our service was outstanding. The food was good, although, I only had an appetizer, soup and salad. Next time I will order an entree. Mainly, I was impressed by the laid back dining experience."

"We have been to Vin de Set in the past and had a good experience. I wasn't impressed this time around. Our reservation was at 7:15. We were seated quickly, but at a table next to the bread station. Food came out quickly - too quickly. Our entire meal was complete by 8:15. I ordered the special of the day, steak and a soft shell crab. The meat was tough and the delicious crab was overwhelmed with breading. My husband ordered the coffee smoked pork. The pork and sauce were great, but the herb gnocchi were bland and rubbery. For a meal this expensive, I would expect the kitchen and servers to know how to pace the dishes so that we had time to enjoy our meal. this was not a great experience and I would hesitate before going back to Vin de Set."

"Always a treat. First time I made the Fish market this year. Too bad it was inside but enjoyed myself as usual. Prices up a bit as well as the size of the fish. 2.5 pound Red snapper for 74 bucks. Should feed 2-3 people but I prefer my own. More filets on the menu, Mostly because people such as my GF are weirded out by the whole fish thing. Overall a treat and should not be missed, they just need to have smaller 1-1.5 pound fish on the menu for 28-30 bucks..."

"What an amazing discovery Vin de Set happens to be, it was our first visit and I promise the next time we are back in St Louis it will be on the top of our list. A wonderful traditional French Bistro menu that had some marvelous twist and turns and flawless food preparation combined with a thoughtful wine list and four star service make for an award winning combination. I will say it this spot any way you cut it is cool as they come and taller that the Arch when it comes to doing things right."

"While the food was, as always, very good and the number of choices on the menu made it difficult to choose, this is about the third time we've had Charles as our waiter. His comfortable temperament and congeniality make for a very pleasant experience and actually put the "icing on the cake". He is attentive and conscientious but does not hover. We know from previous experience that he can make savvy choices to pair wine with food. We were all very happy with our experience and Charles was a big part of it."

"I took my 3 kids and wife to vin de set for my daughters 8th grade graduation and we all left disappointed. Flank was tough and hard to chew. Appetizers were very good ( mussels,crosstini, croquettes).Halibut had a sweet marinated tomato that overpowered the entire dish, way too sweet.Bouillabaise lacked flavor punch and wish it had contained other shell fish like those wonderful mussels I had earlier! Rouille was great but served on itty bitty pieces of bread served on top .Great service, great ambiance. 5-15-13"

"Staff was cordial (even with my 8 mo. old son) and flexible with seating requests. The holiday brunch had plenty of options, from the standard scrambled eggs and bacon to smoked salmon eggs benedict and tons of desserts. If it's a nice day, sit outside on the deck. Not a great view, but it's still enjoyable. For what we got in the brunch (which included a mimosa), price was reasonable."

"We ALWAYS go there for Mother's Day!!!!! One year I tried to make resrvations at a place we used to go to but I did it too late. I then made them at Vin de Set. They impressed us SOOOOO much that we've been going there ever since! We also go there for other occasions as well! We love it!!!!"

"Very good knowledgeable waiter. The ingredients in our dishes were fresh and flavorful, for example, ribeye steak from Rain Crow Ranch, you could really taste the herbs in the herb gnocchi, whole shrimp in the seafood special. We were there early in the evening so it was pleasantly quiet."

"It was a pleasant food experience, but the service was horrible, We got there at noon and got our food at 1:15. It took q;uite a long time just to even get someone to our table for water. But once the food did come it was very good."

"This is a really nice restaurant close to the St. Louis Ameren HQ. Very nice decor, open wood framed roof with skylight..
My wife's egg plant skins were a bit tough.
Seating was a bit cramped on the north wall (looking out toward Hwy. 40).
Didn't sit there but the two corner round booths looked really nice.
Also looked at the loft area for small party of 12 and that was very nice.

"We enjoyed our evening at Vin de Set. The Sea Bass with couscous and cranberries was exceptionally good. The best part of our evening was Charles, our waiter. He did an excellent job! We also go to enjoy roof top dinning in a screened in porch. So we got to enjoy the sights of the Arch."
