"Our party of six and were seated in a corner of the restaurant with partitions built along all sides of the table. This made it very difficult to get up and leave the table as there wasn't enough room to walk; everyone had to get up so one of us could pass by. The restaurant was empty at this time, we could have been seated in several other locations. This arrangment made it difficult for our servers to place plates and glasses on the table. We had to hand our plates and glasses around the table to each other. Twice we received food that was supposed to go to another table. The rice was so old and over cooked that it was inedible. It was disappointing to pay so much for a meal that we had to serve to each other and was not fresh."

"We had a party of 10 dining before a family event. We had planned a full 2 hours for dinner but were late for the event. Our server forgot to come take our dinner order once starters were served. He neglected to refill drinks. The show stopper was when we found wax paper in the bread (in not on) and no one apologized in any way"

"All of our food was absolutely delicious!
The noise level was too high during dinner to be able to carry conversation easily with our group.
Timing of our food and beverages was not good. We did not receive waters for a long time after we were seated and our drinks from the bar took a long time to come out. We had to ask for water. We were asked to order salads when our appetizer hadn't come out yet, making me feel rushed."

"I've been a longtime patron of M&S and it continues to be high on my list of favorites. The food is always great and the service above par and the staff is usually very attentive.
My only gripe is an issue I have with all upscale restaurants nowadays. They no longer have a dress code and it's annoying to go to such a venue and see people dressed like slobs. It very much detracts from the ambiance. I don't think a dress code would cost upscale restaurants business and might actually gain them business. If folks want to dress like slobs, there are plenty of casual restaurants around."

"M & S Grill was listed as a great spot for Mother's Day brunch. We found the service to be slow, including our waiter having a "tea situation" as he described. It took him about 20 minutes to locate the box with the tea. We had to keep reminding him to bring our drinks and clear our plates from the buffett. The buffett was mediocre at best. They kept running out of items and did not have an omelet bar. I expected much more for a place claiming to be an excellent Mother's Day brunch choice."

"My family took me to M&S Grill for Mother's Day brunch for the 2nd year in a row. However; I was a bit disappointed with the food selection this time around. I would have preferred there were more breakfast type of options as it seemed most of the food was more the lunch side of brunch. The waffle station was the bright spot of the experience. I was also disappointed that I was charged $10 for my 20 month old son to eat about 2 bites of a roll. Seems to me that children under 2 should be free as they really probably eat less than most people waste at a brunch. Overall, the brunch was good, and the mimosas and truffles were good too."

"Did not advise on their website or open table this would be a buffet brunch. My party was looking forward to eating off the menu and were not told this was the only option until arriving at the restaurant. $26 buffet plus you need to pay $3.95 for ice tea is a little outrageous with no advanced warning when you even searched out information. Service was really bad as it took a lot of time to clear plates and I had to ask to have my beverage refilled. He spent more time pitching the members program than he did serving the table. Overall I was very disappointed and will not return to this place for any type of holiday event."

"When we first arrived at 6:30pm it took more than 10 minutes for the server to come to our table eventho the restaurant was less than 50 % full. Them it took another 15 minutes to get the wine & cocktails ordered.
Been to M&S 6 times in past three years. Today grilled chicken and salmon on 3 entrees was overcooked & dry. Had it not been 7:30pm we would have sent it back but at that point hunger overcame the poor food."

"Have been to McCormicks and Schmicks several times but first time at M&S. We had a secluded booth but it was Prom night so full of High Schoolers. Food was good and reasonably priced. We had probably one of the highest priced entrees (Mixed Grill) but we shared it and was more than enough for the both of us. The BBQ Shrimp Brochette was good but needed to be hotter. I love wedge salads and had their BLT version. Very good. Our server Zach was good. Service was a little slow from the kitchen but like I said, it was Prom night so am sure they were busy. Luckily my wife and I have not been able to go out to dinner without kids for a while so we didn't mind the pace. Was in no hurry to go home. Will try again but not on Prom night."

"I would have to say that our experience was okay. Our waiter was really good, but to be honest, we spent more time talking about whatever loyalty card they were trying to sell. I don't fault the waiter as I understand the importance of loyalty cards, repeat customers, and they probably were also offering an incentive program to sell the cards. It felt a little bit like having to purchase a Major Saver card from someone selling door to door."

"I was disappointed in their wine. While they offered some gems, the reds are not tempered, nor did the server know what I was asking. A $150 cabernet should be stored and served at the correct temperature. My steak was rare instead of medium rare and I never saw the server to ask him to correct the cooling temperature. Will definitely not return. The O'Pear coctail is delicious as is the calimari."

"We got off on the wrong foot early. The waitress was very sweet. But, she did not know the menu. I would have expected a restaurant of this caliber to train and test prior to allowing someone to wait tables. I blame front of the house management for this. I worked my way through college waiting tables and was never permitted to serve without being thoroughly tested on my menu knowledge. I ordered an 8 ounce filet medium rare. It came out well done. Another steak at the table was also over cooked. She took my entire plate back to the kitchen including the sides (purchased a la carte) I had placed on my plate. Again, poor training. When the replacement steak arrived, it was cooked OK but was hot in the center. That means microwaved."

"I was very disappointed in the Easter buffet. For a restaurant of the caliber of M & S Grill there should have been a carving station and maybe an omlet station. All they had was fairly mediocre buffet food. There were several empty pans when I went through the line and when I went back for dessert there was almost nothing on the table. It was a good 5 minutes before anyone even started to fill the dessert table and they were out of at least one item that was there originally."

"Went for Easter Brunch, which is our family tradition at M & S Grill. Positive, seated us right on time at 11:30 a. Negative, no food during the time we were there! Never kept the buffet up, people were complaining constantly, Mgr was using the excuse that they had 790+ reservations and it was their first big brunch under the Landry "umbrella". That has nothing to do with food in the buffet bins! Went up there on three different time and no food. For kids, only pancakes that were colored pink & green. M & S has done many buffets and there was no excuse for them not to have food in them - it's not that hard to scramble eggs! This year, no waffles, no omlets, no cereals for the kids. All for $26/pp! Left after 45 mins & still hungry!"

"Food was acceptably good. Salad was great; we shared. My Mahi-mahi was well-prepared, but who enjoys fish over mashed potatoes?
The green beans for a side were not undercooked or overcooked or crunchy. Rather, they were hard as concrete. Not a good selection for good fish.

"Nothing negative to report. Pleasant meal with spouse and two grade school age kids on a Friday evening. Good service. Ample portions. Food was delicious. Discerned no difference between quality here and the big sister restaurant. We had reservations, but did not need them; there was no wait that I could see."

"We had a group of four and it took a long time in between visits from the waiter. Therefore drinks were not refilled in a timely manner at all. As far as the food goes two dishes were good and two were just okay, once again it took a long time for our food orders to come out. The restaurant was not busy so we were not sure what the hold up was. We have visited this restaurant a couple of time before and while the service has never been stellar this was slower than usual."

"I was truely disappointed in the entire experience! the service was only fair and the food was poor - the steak tasted strange, the "butternut squash" didn't even taste like butternut squash and the seafood taste like fast-food seafood. it was way over priced for the quality and quanity of food.

"We went on the Sunday after Valentine's day for dinner. The restaurant was not busy at all but it took quite a while for our food to arrive. I had the special-filet and lobster tail. The lobster tail was good but my steak was overlooked. I ordered it medium and most of it was well done. My husband had the ribeye which was better but he said it was a little tough. For the price, I expected more (service, ambiance, and quality of the food). I would only go back to M&S grill for happy hour which is good, but there are better dinner options on the Plaza for that price."

"My companion and i ate there on a Friday night. We shared the "crab tots" appetizer, which was delicious as always. He had scallops and i had the mahi mahi with crab. Both were delicious. The service was excellent, polished and professional. But for the first time, it felt like a chain restaurant. A very nice chain restaurant, but a chain just the same. The menu seemed somewhat pared down, the selection wasn't as broad or as imaginative as it has been in the past. I got the red velvet cake for dessert, and while i can't be sure, i think they've tinkered with the recipe. it was good, but not spectacular. Make no mistake, the food was well-prepared and well-presented, service was excellent, but it felt "mass market" for the first time."

"Overall, M&S Grill is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always good and the service is always at least good to excellent. That being said, I have to say that I was a bit annoyed this time around. In the past, whenever I've made reservations, my table would be ready at the appointed time. Not this time. I'd made reservations for 7 pm and we didn't get seated until past 7:30.
One other thing that's bothering me more at fine restaurants is the lack of a dress code. When dining at a nice venue, I and my companion dress accordingly but it's becoming ever more common to see people at these establishments wearing ripped jeans, motorcycle jackets, and backwards ball caps. Such totally changes the ambiance of a nice restaurant."

"As a steak house they need to learn to cook steaks as ordered. I ordered a filet chared and medium rare. My wife ordered chared and medium. The degree of cooking was proper but there was no sign of charing. Just because the menu says steaks are char broiled does not mean they are chared. Either the waiter or the kitchen did not seem to know. The quality of the beef was very good. We dod not appreciate being charged for dinner rolls."

"All of our visits prior to this have been outstanding, great food, nice romantic atmosphere and wonderful service. This most recent visit was a letdown. "Disappointing experience. Have previously visited this establishment several times, but not in the last couple of years. Past experiences were generally quite good, but it appears things have dropped off substantially. From top to bottom, the staff was overwhelmed. The kitchen was no exception. I sent my $35+ steak back because it was substantially overcooked. The replacement was thin, tough, and gristly. Definitely substandard for the price, and quite substandard for the level of restaurant to which this one aspires. The manager seemed distracted and inattentive. Perhaps he had endured a long night of similar complaints?
A great steak can be had at numerous KC locations. This restaurant should not be counted among them."

"A bit of a Disappointment compared to McCormick and Schmick's. My steak was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The appetizer and sides were mediocre at best. The food came out quickly enough once ordered, but the waiter was slow to take orders almost to the point I was going to ask him if he was going to take our order.
To many good restaurants to go back. Will leave this one off the list."
