A modern vegetable restaurant by Chefs Richard Landau & Kate Jacoby, formerly of Horizons: Located in the historic Tiger Building on Locust Street, Vedge offers classical, elegant dining experiences as well as a sophisticated bar and cocktail lounge. The menu takes a fresh approach to cooking vegetables, presented in a series of mid-size plates. Think: Smoked Eggplant Braciole, Salt-Roasted Golden Beets, Wood-Grilled Maitake Mushrooms.

"Good: competent efficient staff. Pleasant comfortable rooms. Wine was good but pricey. Coffee was very good.
Middling: We came here for the food. It was expensive, so we expected to be knocked out by every dish. Out of the 7 plates we had, 4 were wonderful, sublime, and 3 were -meh. I've made more interesting cauliflower at home, and the carrots- well, neither my wife nor I thought it was worth the effort of the presentation. I forget what the third one was. The chocolate dessert was mostly good, but so thick that it was difficult to spoon out of the glass. And the "stout ice cream" was a mistake IMHO.
Bad: way too noisy, the noise level made conversation more difficult than it should be in any place aspiring to classy, romantic, etc."

"My husband and I just recently visted the Philly area and saw reviews for this establishment. I'm vegan and my husband is not however we both really enjoyed the food and service. We enjoyed every single dish but the carrot and lental dish fantastic! Brussel sprouts lovely, and the deserts are worth trying if you have room left!
This is the best vegan restaurant I've eaten at and I travel extensively across the country!"

"i can't say enough good things about my first meal at vedge! i'd been looking forward to eating her for months, and it did not disappoint. every dish was beyond expectations, and the service was wonderful. my favorite dishes were the braciole, fingerling fries, and shaved brussels sprouts. the seitan was also amazing. my friend was talking about the brussels for the entire weekend! we also loved the saffron cheesecake and were impressed with how well the seemingly odd pairings (basil and olive especially) worked SO WELL together. i am definitely bringing more people back here when they come to visit philly."

"This was a long awaited and highly anticipated visit. We were not disappointed in any way. Everything was delicious and most exceeded our expectations. Great food, beautiful presentaions, and lovely atmosphere!!! We will not wait for another special occasion to return. We want to come with at least one other couple so we can try everything on the menu!

"An amazing restaurant, period.
The carrots shawarma style were inspired. I liked the dhal more than the carrots. The fancy radishes were intriguing.
Tofu and seitan are far less prominent on the menu than at Horizons. Diverse vegetables are front and center. All the same, my fave may have been the korean seitan tacos I ordered off the bar menu before we were seated.
An amazing anniversary dinner, including a drink or two per person, will run you around $100. Speaking of which, their beer list is short but remarkable.
Speaking of price though, their happy hour menu at the bar includes some excellent $4-$6 beers and the aforementioned korean seitan tacos for $4. Definitely possible to spend $10 on a light dinner at the bar after work."

"Went here for our anniversary. The food is amazing. My only dislike about the whole experience is that the restaurant is a little on the loud side and we were there on a Tuesday nigh,t so I imagine it only gets worse later in the week. I'm recently curbing myself toward a vegan diet but would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting delicious gourmet food. We went here because Philadelphia magazine rated it #3 for restaurants of 2013 AND because of it being vegetarian/vegan. Great food. Highly recommended."

"Artful food to please all types of foodies! My son is vegan and my wife and I try to be supportive and are frequently left a little disappointed. Vedge cured that for all of us. Great drinks and incredible dishes worthy on any menu. Staff were knowledgeable and courteous."

"This is one of the best vegetarian restaurants I've visited. There's not one bit of fake meat on the menu. Instead, their plates are carefully crafted to bring together vegetables and seasonings that complement each other wonderfully. We had the saffron cauliflower soup, the roasted maitake mushroom with celery root fritter, and my favorite, a salad composed of salt-roasted golden beets, avocado, smoked tofu, and capers. Everything was delicious! They also have a full bar with interesting and creative cocktails, excellent service, and a comfortable ambiance. I went for my birthday dinner and had an all-around lovely time. If I'm ever in Philadelphia again, I'll definitely go back."

"I was skeptical when my girlfriend wanted to try Vedge, as I am neither vegetarian or vegan, but I was blown away. Everything I had was superb! Aside from being a bit pricey (well worth it) I can't think of a negative aspect of my dining experience."

"I was just blown away by this restaurant. Hands down the best, most-inventive, most-flawless vegan cuisine I have ever tasted. If I could have eaten more, I would have.
Staff was extremely accommodating and knowledgeable about the food, and a pleasure to talk to. Service was prompt and well-paced, though my first few dishes came out in such succession that it almost felt a bit rushed. I was after a slow, leisurely evening, so maybe it was just me.
Landau is a genius for what he puts on his plates, not only for their inventive components, but for the amount of care and careful preparation each ingredient is shown.
I could not have enjoyed my evening more."

"Just a fabulous experience all around. The waitress was lovely, the food delicious although small portions. I loved the ambience of the dining area. Not only is the food creative and like nothing you have ever tasted - but the owner / chef will blow your mind and destroy all your pre-conceived notions of what a vegetable should taste like. "If you love spinach and spinach is on the dirt list, get it. But everything on the menu, from the barely unadorned to the most elaborately dressed, is pure magic. No need for ethical or dietary justifications for a vegan diet after you dine here; be a vegan for the sheer taste of it."

"I frequented this establishment back in its days as horizons and still do till this day. Our last visit was nothing short of amazing! The waitress was prompt, courteous and very friendly. ( her name escapes me, but she had a little Flyers tattoo on her hand,which I loved) she was awesome. Next time I go back, I'll be asking for her! The food was exclent as always, it was my dates first time there, And it's now her favorite spot. The grilled seitan, and the Portabella were two stand outs. Also the sangria was some of the best I've ever had."

"Great experience... and thats coming from a seasoned carnivore and steakhouse aficianado. The sweet potato terrine was amazing and the watermelon sorbet may be the best I've ever had. We will definitely be back soon."

"Our first time to eat here and what a wonderful experience. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable. Having never eaten a vegan meal I will have to say it was outstanding. The lack of meat was not missed because some of the flavors really mimicked it. How they pull off all the taste is amazing. Their cheesecake was the best I have ever had. We would highly recommend for vegans and everyone else."

"We dined at Vedge last Friday, May 10. The sever was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was great and it was amazing that vegetarian cuisine can be so interesting and with a wide array of varieties.
The only thing that I wish for improvement is the noise level. Apparently, the bar area was crowded with many congregating around it and they were LOUD! The audio insulation isn't that great with the bare walls and ceiling just bounced back their raucous voices. I could not hear what my wife said across our small table."

"I've had the pleasure of working for many months in the Philadelphia area, and wanted to try as many restaurants and chefs as possible. I enjoyed Vedge so much that I had to go back with family so they could experience it as well. If I could eat like this daily, I would consider becoming Vegan!"

"As a very long-time vegetarian and former vegan, what an exciting find of a restaurant! The food is absolutely delicious, and it's easy to get lots of different things to try, since everything is small plates (but each is enough for at least two to have a good-sized portion). The brussels sprouts and the potatoes were particularly memorable, but there wasn't a single dish that we didn't enjoy."

"We've been vegan for just a year now, and we are generally pretty happy with the food we cook at home. Vedge is an entirely different level of beauty, sophistication, and execution. Their deserts... there is NO WAY they are vegan, but of course, they are. The oatmeal ice cream rivaled the Ben and Jerry's Oatmeal ice cream, which is my FAVORITE. The Cheesecake, melts in your mouth. Great spot for our 15 year anniversary."
