"I came here with my family For me UT graduation dinner and we all loved it! We sat out on the patio and the views were amazing. The food was excellent, I had the special which was a steak tenderloin with crab meat, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. We had the berrycombler for desert. So good! I highly recommend this restaurant. Oh, and Annie is a great waitress! Overall, great experience"

"I have been to Z'Tejas three times now; each visit has been very pleasant. The atmosphere is light and pleasant, not like a darkened bar.
This last time was pretty nice except that we arrived just as things were getting started and there was some slight disorganization when getting seated. When I asked my leftovers be boxed, I never saw the waitress again and we had to go, so I left the leftovers.
Small things but notable regarding the training that management has provided.
Overall it is still a pleasant experience for the view outside and the food!"

"I fear the quality, at least at the Arboretum location, is not what it used to be. It has been a regular dining destination for my family for a number of years and for a very long time it was a great experience. However, the last three visits have been marginal at best. Service has been slow and inconsistent. And, while there are many attractive options on the menu the quality of presentation is just not what it used to be. Especially for Sunday brunch. Here's hoping the restaurant team restores this neighborhood gem to its previous quality of dining experience because right not it simply isn't what it used to be."

"Two different waiters brought food to our table that did not belong to us. Also, we needed to ask many times for drink refills and finally at the end of our meal multiple people brought out additional glasses of tea plus filled our glasses we we had 9 full drink glasses when we were done with our meal. One time a lady came by with the full iced tea pitcher and filled one glass and walked away from all the other glasses that were about a third full. I'd say their teamwork and understanding of who does what needs to be worked on. Greater observation and focus on the here and now. The lunch was very tasty though and we enjoyed our meal and our personal waiter did a fine job."

"The waiter was not good with service at all. When I went to order my steak he had no clue what I was trying to order. My date also ordered a steak and asked for it med and it was close to rare. I have gone to the Ztejas on 6th street many times and always had great service. This Ztejas was not even close."

"The food is good with some interesting choices. I have been twice now and we have ordered a variety of dishes. We tried to order desert and they did not have our selection. Its a bit loud the way its layed out and the servers are really not what you would expect for a higher end experience. I think if it were about two bucks less a plate and at a lesser location I would give them 5 stars but with such a nice location and higher prices I expected more. I feel that if they added a bit more ambiance to the tables and cleaned up the wait staff a touch it would be a great place. A good place for brunch/lunch but not to impress a date."

"We had booked a party of eight. One part of the group had some car issues on the way and was late. Ztejas did not give us a problem with that. Then when the party showed, we ended with nine. We were easily and cheerfully accomodated."

"Historically z'tejas has a good reputation. I found it to be everything I've come to expect from the worst of chains; loud, unnecessarily crowded with tables, poor waitstaff, assembly line food; all around a very poor experience. I will not be back. By the way, if you have a disability, pass on this one all together. They valet park in the accessible parking and tables are to close together to navigate."

"They couldn't take credit cards because of computer problems. They were out of banana nut muffins very early at brunch (10:45AM). Service was slow though there was no real crowd that early. My entree was bland (scrambled egg & jalapeno bacon stuffed chili relleno). I have enjoyed previous visits for lunch and dinner, but this brunch left much to be desired. This was my husband's first time at Z'Tejas. I don't think I can get him to come back."

"LOVED the food. Our server, however, was not very attentive. I ordered a side of beans, which I never got. My husband and I sat with our drinks empty for most of our meal. I guess our server was really busy, but she completely disappeared for a while. It was a little frustrating. Otherwise, we had a very nice dinner."

"The patio, with its elevated scenic view, makes this location special. Dining on the patio is picturesque and much less noisy than dining inside--if you don't like a noisy restaurant, try for an outdoor table. As far as the food, I have eaten at the 6th street location far more often, and this location does not quite reach the quality of the original. My flank steak roulade (the special that evening) was merely acceptable. The steak itself was excellent but the filling did not impress. The sweet potato hash on which the steak was presented could've been crispier (hashed potatoes are usually browned and crispy, right?). I enjoyed this Z Tejas more for the view than the food."

We were sat at a table near a ramp where staff and patrons walked by very close to one of the chairs (we were afraid that the person sitting in that chair would get a drink spilled on or get accidentally bumped!)
We asked to be changed to a different table due to the proximity to the highly trafficked area, and despite having made a reserveration we were told we'd have to "give up" our reservation and wait approximately 20 mins for a new table. We opted to stay at that table.
Our waitress rarely came by to check on refills of our drinks/etc.
Lastly, our food was "Ok"...nothing memorable."

"Outdoor seating. Wind curtains closed - good. Fireplace burning - nice. Smelled like an exhaust pipe. Fumes from fireplace overwhelming. Server - pretty surly. Best part - someone else picked up the tab. Your valet parking arrangement nearly reserves all convenient parking for the valet and not for the self parking individual who had to park on the busy boulevard. You might consider changing this arrangement since the valet customer isn't concerned with busy street. Would I go back - not on a Saturday night or during SXSW. Noisiest place to eat ever."

"First let me compliment OpenTable Reservations, because even though there was a long line of diners waiting for tables, we stepped into Z'Tejas exactly at our 6:45pm reservation time and directed to a table right away. From there our dining experience was excellent except for the high noise level.
Our server, James, did an outstanding job with good sense of humor & attentiveness. The Tres Chile margarita was too spicy hot. Enjoyed salmon special with diablo sauce, potato pancake & seasonal vegies for me & my husband loved the seafood burrito with chile lime rice & black beans. Oh, and don't forget the deliciously moist cornbread served complimentary before dinner. Peach cobble with ice cream we shared was yummy."

"It was a cold night and they put us at a table on the patio edge and the divider half way open. When we asked to move by fire and asked if they were going to close the divider, we got a shrug. The waitress forgot my salad and was indifferent about it. Then my wife was still eating her main and the waitress was asking her if she had saved room for dessert. All that said, the food was very tasty and we'd try them again for that."

"The food was very good, but it was topped by the service. We were originally seated outdoors (at our request), not on the covered patio but literally outdoors, in Feb. It was cold for us. We requested to be moved into the covered patio area when a table became available. Without even blinking they accommodation us as soon as a table became open. We were seated right next to the fireplace. Nice touch guys, especially for our Valentines Day dinner."

"Noise or rather acoustics is usually a problem here. We sat outside thinking there would be less problem with noise, but that was not the case. The patio was cold and the waiter turned up the heaters so the room was finally warming up as we were leaving. ZTejas has so much going for it, but I think it is slipping a little in the past year. Food has become standardized as in eating at a chain instead of individualized as in created by a person. Love the location so I usually go here four or five times a year."

"If you like large crowds, lots of noise don't have a preference for high quality cocktails, this is a great place. I generally go there because a friend of mine likes the ambiance of a crowded place. Food is pretty good, menu selections are appealing but very little is available for vegetarians and fit conscious types like me.I had a cosmopolitan at the bar which was served right up but the drink was a bit bland and lacking in quality. Overall, service is good and though the parking lot was packed, I was able to find a spot within 5 minutes. Love the fact that you can reserve table online."

"Our experience was pretty good by and large. We were a large group and having to pay with only one credit card was a problem. It would be helpful if customers could pay with a credit card for whomever is in their smaller group. Other restaurants will do that. The next time we have a large gathering we will probably go elsewhere for that reason. Otherwise, it's still a fantastic view and the food is delicious. Thanks!"
