Ursino
The name Ursino was inspired by the rich history of the colonial era Liberty Hall Estate (previously called Ursino), located on what is now part of the Kean University campus. The estate boasts a 4.5 acre farm, from which we harvest many of the ingredients used on our menu. Chef Peter Turso and his staff use these ingredients to create a menu that embraces Modern American cuisine. We also support local producers as much as possible; not only in our menu selections, but in our wine, beer and cocktail offerings too.
Our goal is to provide a memorable, quality dining experience for every guest that arrives at our door. With knowledgeable and attentive service, along with expertly prepared food second to none, we aspire to be considered by our guests as one of the top restaurants in New Jersey.

"Almost everything on the menu is made or grown in New Jersey, much of the harvest is from the Ursino farm itself, a very well tended setting of fields that we strolled by on the grounds of the Kean mansion. Servings were moderate size and beautifully presented. The food was deliciously flavorful. Comfortable seating on banquette or chair in. Modern ambience with one wall of glass. Shared starter of seared Barnegat Bay scallops very good. So was Arctic char with Swiss chard etc. and my pasta dish with mushrooms And house made ricotta."

"The food was only fair the fish was overcooked the service was poor and the table was near the entrance to the bathrooms. At least 60 times during dinner the door was opened for someone to either go to or return from the bathroom and a swift breeze would hit you in the neck or face depending on which way you were facing. It was extremely disruptive and uncomfortable. When I complained to the manager he told me the building isn't perfect! He was extremely unprofessional and not accommodating. We waited 30 minutes for dessert which was gelato and they brought the wrong flavors. They ended up not charging us for dessert due to poor service they explained. We won't be going back there!"

"We expected Ursino to be great since it has been recognized as one of New Jersey's top restaurants. The restaurant is striking, the menu is inventive, and presentation is beautiful. The food itself ranged from good to excellent. Gnocchi had a wonderful flavor but were overcooked. A creamy, artichoke soup was the table favorite. Scallops were tasty. The miniscule beet salad was nothing special. Entrees were good but could perhaps be more flavorful. Our table preferred the meat entrees to the fish entrees. Desserts were groan worthy. The wine list is extensive but severely overpriced; consider ordering by the glass instead. The restaurant was quiet on a beautiful Thursday evening. At these prices, we expected consistent excellence."

"This was our first time there so not sure what was going on but it took almost an hour for us to get served at 9:00 pm at Ursino when the restaurant was half empty. The hostess barely looked at us when we asked her questions about the restaurants being on or off campus and she has no knowledge on the subject either. I was surprised for such a "high end" place. Food was pretty good, my dish wasn't great (falefel) but my husbands fish and the appetizers were excellent."

"The food was delicious, however it may not be enough to get me to come back. The red wine by the glass list was short and not good. The Cab was not full bodied, the Pinot was a watery version of grape juice and the Merlot was just OK. The restaurant was very loud. The restrooms were outside the restaurant, into the academic building lobby and around the corner- not ideal. The waiter was very knowledgable and helpful. The hostess, however, would not seat us until our exact reservation time even though there were tables available. I'm not sure the good food would be enough to get me to go back. There are many other "Great food" restaurants in the area with a much better atmosphere."

"We have visited Ursino's on a number occasions and always enjoyed spectacular meals and outstanding service.
This Mother's day was a little disappointing as there was a very large party in the private room which was
very noisy. Even after we asked if the door to the room could be shut, the noise level was unacceptable.
Ursino's is a wonderful restaurant. I would suggest better sound insulation for the room or to make sure tables that are adjacent to the room remain empty when hosting a large party.

"Ursino is located in the technology and mathematics building at Keane University! Don't let the location fool you. The new building its located in is very nice and offers free valet parking when you arrive. Ursino takes up two floors. You enter on the bar level which is very nice. A great place to have a drink or a light bite from the bar menu. The main dining area is downstairs. Ursino has a great upscale modern decor. The menu is very inventive. I believe it changes regularly which is nice. It offers a nice assortment of appetizers and entrees followed by a dessert menu later. Cant say enough about the food! The staff is very friendly and helpful though a bit slow the night I was there. Ursino is one of the best restaurants in NJ!!"

"We had an 8pm reservation. Arrived at 7:15 with the intention of getting a drink, checked in and enjoyed a drink. 8pm came and went and no table, another drink, 8:20, no table, 8:30, no table - finally were seated at 8:45. Nothing more was said other than the people ahead of us lingered at their table and the restaurant was sorry. Disappointing. But once we were seated the food and service was great."

"Dining at Ursino was a wonderful surprise. Upon entering, the layout, spaciousness, colors, and overall vibe were welcoming and conducive for a positve dining experience. To get to our table, which was located on the first floor, we descended down a semi-sprial staircase that revealed a cleverly appointed room. The view of the crisp manicured lawn, flowers, and fountain, was beautiful as seen through the grand floor-to ceiling windows. The food at Ursino was delicious, delivered with careful presentation. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. After this dining experience, I would definitely return"

"We heard great reviews on Ursino so couldn't wait to try it out. Overall it was a positive experience but neither of our roasted chicken entrees was fabulous-our appetizers of market salad and beet salad were good, and the bread pudding was delicious but I am not sure my husband would drive the 40 minutes and give it another try."

"I have been to Ursino several times now and have always had a wonderful dining experience. While I do think it is a bit pricey, the menu items have always been unique and the service impeccable. The servers (including the bartenders) have always been knowledgeable and solicitous without being overbearing or "hovering".My friend and I enjoy visiting Ursino every 2-3 months as a "special" dinner out and plan on continuing to do so."

"The restaurant was great. During the meal we(2 people)got the impression that we were being rushed out. Several servers kept asking if we needed anything, and had duplicated their efforts. The seating arrangements are comfortable ,except that the best tables are by the windows, and are only allowed for larger groups (6). The tables for four are in the center of the room and were empty early in the evening. The tables by the back wall were full and somewhat small. I asked as we were leaving, if we could be seated at the larger tables ,and got a song and dance routine. They were good and not cheap , but I would have liked a larger table ,and would have lingered longer with a glass of Port. Dinner was 90 minutes."

"was beautifully prepared and presented. Each item had a deliciously unique flavor that relied upon the freshest of ingredients. The pastas, salads, fish, both as appetizers and entrees, were exceptional. I sampled the artichoke ravioli, scallops and cod, and would re-order each upon a return visit, except that there are so many other items I want to try! The service was friendly, effcient, accomodating and caring, from the moment we entered the restaurant until after we left, several hours later. We even received a call the next day to inquire about our experience!"

"The food was great, however it was quite slow. If it was faster I would say everything about this place is perfect. "Heard wonderful reviews and couldn 't wait to go. Extremely disappointed in every aspect. Bartender young and not polished in his presentation. Limited ability to make anything but what they have on menu. Food was beautifully presented, but minimal flavor. Salad over dressed and tasteless with barely any cheese in it. Choc hazelnut cake was dry and flavorless and I love hazelnut-but couldn't taste any! Wouldn't go back or recommend Ursino's."

"While I don't recommend this restaurant for anyone under the age of say..18-20, it's a great "fine dining" experience for adults. The food is catered to a certain palette for sure and the menu is quite pricey. It's great for special occasions or a date night splurge. The food was fantastic and the service was top notch."

"Very memorable dinner. Probably the best dining experience we've had in NJ. Appetizers and dessert were very unique. Service was exceptional and we look forward to going back to try more things on the menu. Was not crowded at all on a Fri night, probably because it's on the campus of Kean Univ and not many people have heard of it. Highly recommend!!"

"well as we were the only people in the restaurant hard to tell atmosphere..but..the food was good..I wish they spent a little time telling you about the ingredients in as much as it is a "farm to table".like the hummus and oil immersion for the bread.tasted great but no idea what it was til we asked .I liked all the food.we had the winter greens salad which had a great vinaigrette and I had the special short ribs.tender and tasty..my wife had the rigonette also very good.I think the restaurant has the right idea of Farm to Fresh but there is no marketing as such..like on the menu or even by the wait staff..I hope I'm wrong because the food was good but I do not think it will be around long unless they do some better marketing"

"Went to Ursino for my birthday, and loved it! Food preparations are exciting, but not pretentious. Tough making a choice. Loved the duck in broth with soba noodles. Reminded me of ramen. Serving sizes were perfect. Not left starving, but didn't leave feeling stuffed to the brim. Even the suvi lobster special that passed by looked like a generous portion of meat. Definitely check out the open kitchen after you make it down the spiral staircase. I took one service star away because the hostess had us come down the stairs, not letting us know about the elevator. While my mother does not appear handicpapped, she has trouble with her knees. Elevator would have been easier on her. Overall, great experience and eager to return!"

"Was excited to check out Ursino for my birthday last month. Experience could not have been better -- wonderfully inventive food, beautiful setting, attentive and knowledgeable servers who seemed eager to make the experience top-notch. Interesting selection of craft beers and wines by the glass. Looking forward to their "tour and dine" event when it returns this summer."

"Good place to get something to eat. Food was good but like mentioned in other reviews it takes a long time to get your meal. It took 30 mins from order to get appetizers and then an additional 30 mins after that to get meal. We were there for about 1:45 hrs and didn't even get dessert. Had to leave as didn't want to wait any longer. And by the way we went on a Wed night at 7ish... The restaurant was about 1/2 filled..."
