"We were looking for a nice place to go prior to catching a late night movie at the Mall of GA, but wanted something nicer than "mall food". Sperata was the perfect choice! The dishes this chef creates are truly one of a kind. Even the salads are innovative (try the Sperata salad with a grilled portobella mushroom and poached egg on top). The service is wonderful, the food is delicious and prepared perfectly (my halibut was fantastic as was my fiance's lamb) and the molten lava-like chocolate cake we had at the end was to-die for. I would highly recommend this place...although leave plenty of time...you'll want to savor every bite."

"Sperata has been a favorite of ours for a while and never disappoints! The food is always delicious, and the wait staff is very attentive. I will try more unfamiliar foods and dishes in this restaurant, as the chef is very talented. We love sitting in the front window and people watching in the quaint downtown area."

"We went for Mothers' Day. This is not typically a good spot for young children (nice, quiet atmosphere), but they had a special menu and pricing for the occasion. The food was superb, and the service was terrific. The price is not exactly budget minded, but for the quality of the restaurant it was quite reasonable."

"You don't have to drive to Buckhead to get great food and service. It's as great as any downtown place and the staff is wonderful and friendly. It's niceto have a nice place to dine that isn't a chain and offers dishes that are nice and diferent from other places. And the desserts are the best!"

"What a delightful dining experience. Can't say enough about the food and service at Sperata.
The 'starters' are to die for and the bread is a buttery and delectable taste sensation............would love to get their recipe.
The menu offers a little something for everyone....satisfying to the most discriminating palate.

"We arrived for a 5:45pm reservation. The restaurant was mostly empty, but by 6:30, was nearly completely full, and noisy. We were seated at a rather odd table - it was a four top (there were two of us) directly in front of the door. There is no hostess station of merit, so folks entering the restaurant would basically stand around our table until the staff would seat them. Generally this didn't take too long, but there was always enough activity around our table that it was distracting.
The food was delicious - the lobster and crab bisque was great, as was the Carpaccio. The main courses (I had the cornish hen, my date had a seafood dish that was a special of the day) were large portions and tasty."

Our waiter(Michael) on evening of April 19, 2013 was simply great. He was attentive to all our needs, but didn't crowd us. The salmon for myself and wife was prepared to perfection. Wine list was excellent. Only shortcomming that I have experienced at Sperata's is the absence of Tanqurey gin on cocktail menu. Recommend this restaurant highly."

"Excellent place to have dinner - especially for those special occasions. My wife & I visit Sperata 3 - 5 times a year for Birthdays and with out of town visitors and just about any other excuse we can come up with! Always very good food, friendly professional staff, and a good overall atmosphere. On this visit, I booked thru Open Table and ordered flowers to be delivered for my wife - it was her birthday. The staff were ready for us with the flowers on the table and they really helped make it a special occasion. Even a free desert - not just a small piece of generic cake, but a choice off the menu. Small things, but it's that sort of gesture than keeps drawing us back.... and did I mention the food...... also, wait staff......&.....&....."

"This is one of the few restaurants well north of Atlanta that lives up to the standard of "fine dining". The service was great, and the foot excellent. I had the filet, and it was one of the best (and largest)steaks I have had in a restaurant the past year. All too often, fine dining restaurants give you portion sizes leaving you wanting more. This is not the case here. If you are looking for something better than the endless chain restaurants in upper Gwinnett County, Sperata is the place to go."

"Buford is a good litle town with the potential to be great.With gem's like Sperata the neighbourhood should excel in attracting locals and visitors.The Owner and Chef Chris Hope brings some international experience to our doorstep.The lamb shank and the seafood pasta dish would compete extemely well on a top table in any City around the world. I would encourage the local community to use your doorstep specialities or risk loosing them to the bigger Towns and Cities. "The food was ok but not great. I ordered Chicken Piccata and it came with a marsala sauce instead of a piccata sauce. We requested a taste of a wine we had never heard of and were told "I'll see if we can do that". They did give a tasting but after we ordered the bottle and the wine had been poured, I noticed that it was not the wine we had ordered. The response was "We are substituting this wine for that one." No discussion with us about it or chance for us to order a different bottle - guess they hoped we just wouldn't notice. I guess now I know why the place was more than half empty on a Saturday night. We will not be going back."

"I set up a client dinner here using OpenTable due to the proximity to my clients house. Overall decent food but everything seemed 1 or 2 steps too much. My risotto was flavored nicely and the sauce was good but is seemed like they put an entire fish on top. A few pieces would have been fine given the serving size (a rather large bowl of heavily creamed risotto.) A good chef know when to stop adding things. I guess I should understand that I was in the south and portion size expectations may be higher...Not mine. The room was a bit loud but the prices were fair. Decor was plain and the bar was small. The waiter was friendly and attentive be he seemed to be a step beyond his capabilities at times."

"Went to Sperata on Saturday night. Had an excellent meal including appetizers (carpaccio and ahi tuna), main course of New York strip and Rib Eye steaks, dessert and coffee. The steaks were done perfectly, including a very rare New York strip. The dessert and coffee were excellent.
The atmosphere was very good, got kind of loud near end of the meal due to a large party dining in the back of the room. Service was good at first but got kind of slow after desset, had to wait on the check.
Overall, a good experience will probably go back."

"Complete Dissapointment. Food was okay until salad, and then steak was complete dry over-done piece of meat. My dessert cake came broken into 3 pieces and ice cream was complete melted all over the plate. our waiter was not rude, but he was very unhelpful and slow on work.

"I found this restaurant on Open Table and very intrigued by the menu especially about the escargo. I was disappointed when I arrived and it wasn't on the menu . "The Valentines special was a major disappointment. The menu was altered from what was published online. Substitutions due to availability or quality is one thing; but an advertised 5 course meal became 4, with no price modification. The main course fish option was bland. The main course lamb option also lacked adequate seasoning."

"We dined here on Valentines day and had no trouble with our reservation. However, the servers spent very little time with us and seemed way to "rushed". We ordered the fish which was excellent, and the beef which came out overdone. We had to send it back but that meant we wouldn't eat at the same time. The bisque, salads, and deserts were also very good. For $200, it seemed very impersonal and rushed."

"The restaurant atmosphere was very nice and charming and the appetizers were very good. We were disappointed with the entrees - the meal was not cooked properly and although this was brought to the waiter's attention twice, no offer to remedy the situation was made. We were disappointed with the dinner course as well as the service."

"Since it was St. Valentine's day, they were quite busy and as a result they had a prix fixe menu. The food was very good, and well presented. Service was excellent and the ambience was delightful. We were seated in the upstairs section, which was probably quieter then downstairs. Overall it made for an excellent evening of dining."

"We went to dinner here on Valentine's Day with a reservation. The service was horrible. One and a half hours into the meal, we still didn't get our entrees. It was not the waiter's fault though. The restaurant clearly overbooked the restaurant and did not have the staff to handle the volume. In addition, they sat us "upstairs" where there is no kitchen or food prep area. The poor waiters had to run up and down steep stairs all night to get anything from the kitchen back up to the patrons upstairs, including water!
There is no way they can justify charging a price fixed menu of $130.00 a couple, not including any drinks, with this type service. Shame on them for being so greedy on Valentine's day and ruining many couple's special night o"

"My wife and I have been to Sperata and had great experiences before but to say that they weren't prepared for Valentine's Day is an understatement. We stood at the entrance door for 10 minutes before being greeted and sat...and we were right on time for our reservation. Once seated, our waiter, who was sweating profusely took our drink order after sitting for another 10 minutes. After another 10-15 minutes he asked if we would like bread...since when do nice restaurants ask if you would like bread? After we said yes, we watched a plate of bread sit on the bar for about 10 minutes before he actually brought it to our table, and this was after we asked him about it two more times. The food was good but the service ruined our experience."

"Valentines day... wanted an extra nice place to take my girl... they were understaffed, the service was poor, the waiters were apologizing to every table (we could easily hear)the food was bland (the filet was flavorless with a simple beef gravy poured over the top, and this was $130 before tax!"
