"Hands down the best food you'll find on San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf" proclaimed Sunset Magazine. An extensive renovation has revitalized the Franciscan Crab Restaurant, a Fisherman's Wharf institution since 1957. White tiled walls, beautiful marble bar and twenty foot windows overlook the bay and Alcatraz. Terraced dining affords views from every table: hand blown glass shades and chandeliers dazzle, black and white photos of celebrity patrons adorn the stairs and walls.

"Fantastic! The service was great and the view of the bay is phenomenal! Food was fantastic. I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Also, I had the surf and turf and it was the best filet I've ever had. The seafood was really good also...calamari, spicy shrimp, Dungeness crab legs. I can't wait to get back there."

"We stop by the Franciscan Crab Restaurant each time we come to San Francisco and are never disappointed. We began with a shared cup of clam chowder which we both enjoyed immensely. For dinner,I had the sea bass in the lemon butter garlic caper sauce and my wife had the crab louie with a generous serving of fresh dungeness crab. My sea bass was delicious. For dessert, we shared the lemon torte. Our wait person, Jade, made our visit to the Francsican all the more enjoyable with her outstanding attention to our well-being during our most recent visit."

"This is a tourist restaurant in a top tourist spot along Fisherman's Wharf but the food is delicious and well-prepared. The outdoor seating deck is equipped with heaters and affords a stunning view of the piers and a sweeping view of Alcatraz and the fog-enshrouded sunset. Our seafood linguine did not skimp on the fish and shellfish all tossed in a spicy tomato sauce that did not overwhelm. Crab is the house specialty and lived up to expectations. Our server was attentive but not overbearing. Fresh loaves of toasty bread were so tasty we skipped dessert."

"The Franciscan is a San Francisco treasure! Most think of it as a "Tourist Spot" due to location on Fisherman's Wharf, but it's not!! The views are incredible, the menu has a wide variety and the seasonal seafood items are incredible.
If you like a traditional martini, variety of local wines or a cold Anchor Steam on tap, this is the place for you!
This is now our place after a Saturday/Sunday afternoon Giants game."

"I took my fiance here to celebrate his birthday and it was very romantic, sitting by the window looking at the ocean view. The food was exquisite. My fiancee is a salmon lover and he wants the recipe for the salmon dish. I had the filet mignon it was delicious. We also had the Crab Feast for Two which was made with a garlic sauce....mmmm so tasty!! We are back in Massachusetts and still thinking about how delicious was that dinner.... we highly recommend it. The price was a bit high but great things come at a price and it was worth it.

He mailed me a gift certificate so we used it this weekend to give this place another try. "The Franiciscan has been a landmark for many years now (since 1957 I believe). You do feel a sense of history about the place; just glance at the photographs of all the notable celebrities who have dined there over the years. Service was very good indeed and the whole place just oozes class, despite being in what one might call a "tourist" area. I'll go back for sure and bring visitors to a San Francisco gem."

"Food and service were very good, but frankly I was disappointed where we were seated. The reason I chose this restaurant is it is known for the views, but the lights were so bright you couldn't really see out the windows unless you were seated right next to one. Additionally, it would appear the upper "tier" of the restaurant is used for walk up customers or tourist that come in dressed very casually and we were seated there even though the middle "tier" had almost every table available. I'm not expecting preferential treatment, nor was I expecting a lower level table next to a window as I only made the reservation a week in advance, but essentially, even though this was a Friday evening, why bother with a reservation at all?"

"I booked a large table for a family reunion lunch while I was visiting San Francisco. The Franciscan Crab restaurant was perfect. The staff were all really nice and so helpful. Everyone enjoyed their meal, the wine and desert. The manager set up a nice table so we could all talk and see each other and was fine with us lingering over coffee and desert so we could all catch up.
A bunch of us stopped in the following day for a cocktail and the manager came over to the bar to say hi.
I would highly recommend Franciscan Crab Restaurant! I just can't express how much I enjoyed our meal there."

"Was looking for some fresh Dungeness crab. Franciscan evidently specializes in it and takes reservations, also. The crab was steamed and served in a wine garlic sauce. It was good but messy. I prefer cold cracked crab but couldn't find a restaurant that served it that way in the City."

"A must of San Francisco's wharf dining. Great for lunch, dinner and Birthdays, as well, this experience comes with awesome bay views, contemporary interior with a nod to deco decor, and fresh flavors packed with bright notes and loved-over seafood stews. An approachable and enticing cocktail menu preludes an array of appetizers to chose, my favorites are the many crostini, especially the trout. Friendly and attentive staff to boot!"

"Seafood was fab! Didnt have the crab though as too messy. had the mussels, shrimps and calamari. Mussels and shrimps platte was lovely but the Calamari was a bit too fired and small, not really my taste.
Was a bit noisy even in one of the booths. Wasnt romantic but was interesting dinning experience.

"View is best appreciated in daylight--otherwise you are looking at sparse lights in a black morass.Staff was terrific.Lots and lots of crab dishes to choose from--a definite plus--I have been nowhere that offers so many crab possibilities.Franciscan is also part of old San Francisco. "Their sister restaurants, The Crab House and the Dead Fish, execute the food so much better (more flavorful, for instance). The service was lacking. Wait staff knows they work for a popular location so they don't try to make the diner happy. Countless times our server walked past us paying no attention to empty wine and soda glasses, and so on.
As a former restaurant owner, +200 venues, I see with a few improvements that this restaurant could improve their bottom line tremendously. Why not make more money, have happier customers and happier staff? Why not?"
