Using local and seasonal ingredients is the most important element in Japanese cuisine. It also has become the primary principle for the international culinary community. With commitment to that philosophy, Tamura features seasonal ingredients of the Pacific Northwest in authentic Japanese preparation.
Tamura is a Kappo style restaurant where food is prepared in an open kitchen and served quickly in a lively environment where staff and guests talk about the food and beyond. Our goal is to become the very best restaurant to our guests by getting to know them and serving them in a personable yet professional manner.
"Visited for dinner on Mother's day. Service was excellent, and the food was fantastic. After having read several reviews which recommended omakase (chef's choice), but only seeing it as a footnote in the menu, I had to ask about it. I found out it is 7 courses and $100 per diner. A little beyond our reach. We went for the "tasting menu" instead, which was still 5 courses and more than enough food. The mustard greens and albacore with almond wasabe sauce was a fantastic opener, the duck was wonderfully tasty, and the sushi exquisite. The honey quince yogurt panna cotta at the end was just divine. Overall, not the sort of experience we can afford often, but worth it for a special occasion."

"I do not go to japanese restaurants very often due to so many disappointments in Seattle area. Then my friend took me to Sushi Kappo Tamura the other day. OMG! I am so happy to discover this one. So I wanted to share the happy experience with my friends who love good food. 4 of us went for their mother's day, special Kaiseki set. Wonderful food, we did not leave one single grain of rice on the dish!"

"Took my family out for a special occasion. We had been here before so knew the food was good. Had a variety of things: the duck breast, assorted tempura, chawan mushi, oysters on the half-shell. Most memorable for me was the braised wagyu beef shoulder. It might not be the biggest menu but they definitely do everything really well, the only downside is its definitely on the expensive side so if you're prepared to splurge, this is definitely a place to try."

"While the atmosphere is minimalist and the restaurant has no view, the service was very good and the food was outstanding. My friends enjoyed the sashimi while I savored the black cod, which was buttery tender and delicious."

"We chose the tasting menu. While the sushi was merely good, all the other dishes were exquisite. The duck was melt-in-your mouth and the dessert brilliantly citrusy. Our server was poorly informed and indifferent. When we asked her about the omakase menu, she gave a non-answer and shrugged. She plopped each course down on the table with a one or two word name and disappeared. after a lengthy discussion regarding beverages, she forgot to bring it until we inquired near the end of our meal. I asked for more tea to go with the dessert course and she never came back, except to deliver the check. But if your are looking for a splendid Japanese food experience, sushi kappa tambura delivers."

"For our first time at Sushi Kappo Tamura the tasting menu provided a delicious and interesting variety of offerings with 8 different sushi selections including tasty seared scallop, melt in the mouth hamachi and a grouping of salmon nigiri. The starter of mustard greens & WA albacore tuna dressed with almond wasabi sauce and the honey yuzu yogurt panna cotta were notable beginning and ending to a fine meal."

"Enjoyed a dinner that my friend and I shared. The black cod and spider rolls were delicious. Was a little disappointed with the vegetable tempura as it had a limited number of items although what we had were lightly battered and crisp. Parking was a problem on the Saturday evening so allow time for circling the block. Our waitress was friendly and efficient although we had to wave to her a couple of times for dessert ordering and our bill."

"Took my wife to Tamura for b-day dinner it was great food and service. The Black Cod Belly melted in your mouth. They were very accomodating by allowing us to change our reservation to a later time without any hassles."

"My wife and I had the omakase dinner (8 courses) and a couple of drinks and the total was $300?!? Though, the food was good and tasted very fresh it was not as exciting or interesting as i would have expected based on the reviews. Also, I left still feeling hungry. I have had the omakase at Nishino on multiple occasions and feel It is a better experience (more creative dishes) at about $100 less. Also, I have always left there full. Also, I don't understand why sushi restaurants creativity stops when it comes to the dessert. They offered mochi ice cream (like every sushi place)and creme brûlée (boring, just like in 1990). I guess I expect more from the "best" sushi in the city. 2nd time here, and again feel over charged and unsatisfied."

"Since our reservations were before 6, we had trouble finding parking for this restaurant but it was well worth the trouble. The sushi was masterfully made and each course we had was perfect and delicious. I also loved their lychee martini as well as their lychee lemonade. This was the best sushi I've had in a while."

"Our second time there, we had to go back for the chestnut creme brulee which is oddly addicting. The tuna this time was awesome--melt in your mouth--perfect. The toro was rich and delicate. We had the Washington albacore and mustard greens with Wasabi almond dressing. It was delicious. We also had tempura which was very good but my wife and I both agreed that we weren't big tempura fans so next time we'll skip the tempura and go for more sushi. We also had French 75s for cocktails. Yum. The only thing I would change is to have the restaurant about 10 degrees warmer. Bring a sweater and you'll do fine."

"As a foodie from New York (who visits Seattle twice a year), I have been searching for a good Japanese restaurant in Seattle. I had high expectations for the restaurant after reading the recommendation in Travel and Leisure. Well, I was sadly disappointed. Six of us went on January 4, 2013 as a new year's celebration. Let me start with service, there seemed to be only two servers and a bus boy for the whole restaurant so service was not good. I thought it was strange as we were leaving around 9PM, I saw our server leave. As for the food, the cooked food was nothing special and really small portions. The sushi was just ok, I did like octopus leg sushi though. In the end, I was sadly disappointed and would not go back."

"Parking is going to be tough; there is very limited street parking and no parking lot near by. This is a Japanese style menue meaning the dish is meant to be small so you will need to order additional side dishes if say ordering sushi dinner plate. I had the larger sushin dinner and a plate of oyster on half shell which was a very light dinner. The "neta" (raw fish) was of sufficient thickness and fresh although I've had much better cuts and fresher in town. The 6 oyster half shell was tasty flavored with a shoyu based sause but pricey at $18 if I remember correctly. My family ordered sashimi dinner and that had a better selection and cut of neta. I will mention the hot green tea was excellent although this is more of a "isakaya"."
