Washingtonians know their routine wouldn’t be complete without a jaunt to Dupont. Just steps from the circle, our second US outpost has as much energy as the neighborhood. Choose between indoor or outdoor dining, sit back, and enjoy!
Ping Pong restaurant is a modern take on a very ancient Chinese tradition - the Tea House. Hundreds of years ago, merchants on the Silk Road would stop at tea houses enroute to rest their weary feet, relax and drink tea with their fellow travelers and share Dim Sum - baskets and dishes of little sweet and savory snacks, usually steamed, baked or fried. Ping Pong may be a Twenty-First Century Tea House, but we’ve kept all the best bits of that ancient tradition, like meeting to relax and share appetizing food and fragrant tea. We just thought that after the first thousand years or so it would be OK to add cocktails to the menu.

"I dined at Pig Pong on a Friday night outside, and while the food and Prosecco was delicious, we had a hard
time flagging our waitress to take our order or get her attention for other mid-meal and check requests. The outdoor seating was great and I have been here before with groups and it makes a great location for parties!"

"My friends and I, 8 in total, went there and enjoyed the food but the problems were evident since we arrive.
1) My wife asked if someone had arrived, they said no at the door and, actually our friends were already waiting for us. Similarly, they had asked if someone was there and they said no to them too.
2) The waiter was slow to take the orders and usually walked away when we were trying to order. My wife also asked if he could do something to speed up the food process especially since we had kids, and the answer was a flat "no"
3) Our coffee arrived 10 minutes after our dessert
And so on...."

"Our party of 5 got settled at a table, served drinks and then asked to move. Strange!! The restaurant was practically empty so it was doubly strange! We were happy with our table and having a good time prior to the move.
This definitely put a damper on the brunch as we were now at a too large table in the middle of the restaurant.

"I brought my mother to brunch for Mother's Day. The place was wonderful, they had a complementary dumpling for my mom. The service was super attentive and helpful. I was actually really impressed. I couldn't believe how great our waiter was and the fact that the manager surprised us with a, according to my mom, delicious sea bass dumpling was so sweet. I also noticed that they had a room that could be sectioned off for parties. Each part of the place was sectioned making our experience there seem private and special. My only negative comment is a personal dislike of the golden vegetable dumpling, it had a werid spice to it that I didn't enjoy. Other then that ping pong's dim sum was wonderous."

I had to cancel a few of the items off my order because it was taking them more than a hour to prepare and bring the food. Advice to the restaurant. "I didn't expect this to be the traditional dim sum experience, so my expectations were adjusted accordingly. The selection was OK, the food itself was very good. Unfortunately, they were out of about 7 things, including a couple of items we wanted. The service was at best fair. After a loooong intro explaining everything, we were immediately presented with the question, "do you want the fixed brunch or a la carte?" I don't know, can I have a minute or two to actually read through the menu and decide? On more then one occasion, the server returned to ask a question which we had just answered. After ordering dessert, he returned twice to ask about dessert - what the heck? In the end, go where the Asians go."

"It was a dissapointing end after a Easter Weekend with great meals including Komi,Blue Duck Taver, CityZen, the Pig, jaleo, Bens Chili Bowl, and 2 food trucks. The serveice was very slow although the place looked very hip..cocktails were bland...it took 15 mins for a bowl of rice that was half full and cost 3.50, and they served the endamame at the middle of the meal. The dimsum sounded and looked better than it tasted ( we ordered 15 different dishes )....not recommended .."

"Innovative take on dim sum, works really well most of the time. A lot of fun dishes, a lot of small dishes to try. There's some interesting technique going on in the kitchen. Several good dishes (the bbq ribs, the tempura-like eggplant) seemed to be cooked one way and then briefly deep fried (in a deep fryer, not a wok) to finish. It takes many small dishes to make a meal and the cost adds up. We were there on a Friday night; the tables were packed, the noise level super high. Our waitress was working hard and briefly overwhelmed (food started arriving before drinks); it was crowded and chaotic. But the food is fun, and good."

"I really loved the food and experience when I was having lunch with my friend. Bartender was amazing. She knew her stuff.
I know I rated the noise aspect as 2. But it is not a restaurant's fault. DC is unpredictable and it can spoil everything. They were having a construction right outside and it wasnt an issue because it was not a restaurant's fault.
The music I thought was a bit low. But I can understand that matter of building issue.
Overall I will definitely come back. You guys have an amazing staff and great food. Nothing can spoil that fact.

"Service was well-timed and friendly! Staff are the best! Great for all age groups. Food and drinks are delicious! My favorite items on the menu are the vegetable sticky rice, golden vegetable dumpling, and pineapple coconut lime cooler! Would highly recommend to all looking for a cool vibe, great time and yummy dim sum!"

"Don't go here expecting a standard dim sum meal. The dishes are inventive. We had a quiet brunch on a Saturday. Our group of 4 ordered the pre-set "dim sum for 2" menu for everyone. That approach eliminated the challenge of making choices. For me it was, overall, a bit too much food, and a couple of the early courses came out nearly simultaneously -- namely rather too quickly. The restaurant wasn't crowded. For a birthday they put a candle into a dish of three flavors of ice cream. It wasn't comped but still a nice touch. The teas are fun to order, and the flowering tea was quite pretty."

"Love Ping Pong Dim Sum. It has some of the best cocktails in Dupont and one of the best happy hours around. (Love the Ping Pong cocktail and the frozen grapes and champagne drink.)
I've had several group dinners here, and each time has been fantastic. Great ambiance. The portions are generous for small plates. Be sure to save room for their ginger cake-- it's delicious."

"I have to say that this is becoming a regular place for us! The Sumday brunch is fantastic. The champagne doesn't end and being able to make your own mimosas using the great juices is fantastic. And the dim sum is so tasty and has a great variety. I also have to say that they really hire some good servers. We had Edwin this time and if you can get his section -- do it! He was super friendly and attentive and made it thoroughly enjoyable! We are going to keep going! Hit this place up or go to the one in China town."

"Unfortunately, I attempted to eat at Ping Pong Dim Sum during my 1 hour lunch break. The restaurant was deserted; nevertheless, I waited over 40 minutes for my food and it did not come before I had to leave to return to work. When I alerted the staff they asked me to wait an extra 5 minutes so that they could give it to me in a to go bag. Since I was already running late to get back to work, I had to pay and abandon my food. I don't know if its just that Dim Sum takes a long time to prepare or what was going on but my friend got his Dim Sum in good time. I ordered the set "power lunch". I would not recommend this location for anyone who has a strict lunch hour."

"If you are looking for traditional dim sum, don't come here. But if you are looking for dim sum-inspired deliciousness that has been artfully localized for the urbane city-dweller looking to enjoy global fare with Chinese roots + matching cocktails with friends, this is definitely your place! If you are familiar with the Hong Kong-based brand "Shanghai Tang" which normally focuses on radically modern Chinese-clothes in brights colors with a wink to retro flair, this would be the food to match the aesthetic! Great place for a group of mixed eaters too since vegetarian dishes are well-labeled and plentiful! Fun, delicious, and can be great for appetizers or a family-style meal!"

"While the restaurant is nicely decorated and has nice lighting, the rapid nature of the wait staff and the continuous hustle makes it feel more like eating at a cafeteria. The food is pretty good which makes up for it, but it's not that cheap despite the cafeteria-like rush."

"My father was in town with some colleagues and wanted me to take them to a place with good food that was close to their hotel. We decided on Ping Pong and had a great time.
