"My wife and I went to Jake's Famous Crawfish for Valentine's Day. Our reservations were for 7:15 and we were not actually seated until around 7:45. We were guided to the very back of the restaurant by a hostess who had provided comemorative roses for that evening to couples before and after us, but somehow failed to provide one for my wife. We waited for another 15 minutes before anyone came to offer us drinks and no one offered to bring us bread until our appetizers had arrived almost 40 minutes later. The main courses, when they arrived almost an hour after the appetizers, were very fresh, but hardly worth the price in light of the terribly slow service. The is very little chance that we would return here to dine."

"We went on Valentine's day... I have worked in several five star restaurants and consider myself a foodie and we completely enjoyed our food. But the service was nothing short of lousy. Although friendly, our server was unattentive at best. We had to wait 25 minutes for water and then another 20 for our drinks... and then the refills took another 25 minutes. We were done with all 4 courses long before our drinks and we were there for about 2.5 hours- longer than we expected. On holidays, it is necessary to overstaff to be ready for the large crowds of people and I do not believe Jake's attempted to do so, which will probably keep us from going back, unfortunately, in a city like Portland where there is so much more to choose from."

"Seating with reservation was quick and appreciate. Space was really crowded, hot and humid in the back. Waiter was kind, but took too long to bring bread and abetizer (felt like 20 min) we were hungery. Food tasted excellent. Price seemed just a bit high for what was provided. "I took my mother and father there for a combined birthday. They are from a small town and a little scared of the "big city" and strange food that we have. "Valentines Day at 5:30pm the lobby was packed. I think they overbooked like and airlines for that evening. Many upset people made reservations and were still waiting for tables 15 minutes past their time.

The food was awesome. The waitress had to be reminded multiple times for simple requests and I sat with an empty beer glass for 10 minutes. Most higher end places don't let your beer glass get below half before offering another. Probably just the Valentine's Day rush. We will visit again, but never on Valentine's Day."

"We were there for an adult birthday dinner with one child in the dinner party. We were set at a table tucked back away from all of the bustle of the rest of the restaurant. Our wait person was spectacular and helpful. The wine and the food were excellent. The New Zealand mussels, crab bisque, oysters on half shell were delicious. As were all of our entrees and desserts. Personalizing the menu for our birthday guest was icing on the cake as well as the chocolate cheese cake with a candle. All thumbs up!"

"To be honest waiting for 30 minutes with a reservation was really disapointing! I do understand it was valentines day but it shouldnt have taken that much time with a reservation. The service was ok the food and drinks not so much. The Portland City Grill is 100 times better even the Riverplace Seafood Grill is much tastier. Very disapointed for a Valentines dinner. Had to try it once and wont return."

"We have been to Jake's Famous Crawfish restaurant three time now, all for special occasions, and each time we love it. The food is amazing. The stuffed salmon is incredible. We always request a booth so that helps make it even more romantic although the dark wood and "days gone by" feel of the place makes it a wonderful setting. The bar is fun, a great place to have a cocktail and wait for a table (although after the first time we got wise to calling a few days ahead). Valet for 8 bucks is reasonable if you don't want to hassle with parking although the street car runs close and street parking can be found if you look. The neighborhood is a little "off beat" with Powell's bookstore a couple blocks away and some alternative bars nearby."

"The food was amazing! The restaurant was nice and romantic. My only complaint is that there is nowhere to stand while waiting to be called for your table. It was uncomfortable to be squeezed in with the other customers waiting for their tables having to move every minute for servers to get by. It would be nice to have stood outside, but the host/hostesses call you by name instead of with those light up discs that some restaurants have, so you had to stand inside to be within earshot. Other than that, I can't say anything bad about this place. Wonderful waitress, wonderful food, and an overall wonderful night!"

"I couldn't eat all of my salmon stuffed with crab, shrimp and brie so the waiter took my plate to box it up. They were to bring the box back at the end of the meal. When that time came, unfortunately the plate had been accidently discarded so when they brought my go-go box...it had a whole new meal in it! Nice...."

"We went to Jake's to celebrate my husband's birthday, which I mentioned in the "special information" box when reserving with OpenTable. We had never been to Jake's before. My hubby's a seafood lover, I am not! We started with Dungeness crab bisque & spinach salad. Entree's were filet mignon & twin lobster dinner, and a small filet mignon. We had a cocktail(ok, I had two!). A margarita & 2 Bellini's. We planned on dessert to take back to the hotel for a midnight snack, but beacuse it was his birthday, our server brought him cheesecake with a candle. That was it..no embarassing singing or silly hat, just a nice, classy acknowledgement of our celebration. Impeccable service, incredible food, romantic & wonderful!! HIGHLY recommended!"

"i have lived in portland for fourteen years and have worked a few blocks away from jake's for about ten years but had not really frequented the place until recently -have no idea why! when i am wanting a diverse selection of quality seafood -jake's is where my husband and i now go. the service is ALWAYS top notch and the entrees are always delicious. the dessert tray always looks enticing though by the end of the meal i have a hard time eating anything else."

"We had a very enjoyable meal with good service. This place was jumping like Saturday night on a Wednesday. The staff was crazy-busy, but were sincerly concerned with our experience. The wife had a special menu salmon. I had the shellfish stew and we shared bites. My selection was the winner with HUGE and tasty prawns, a variety of shellfish cooked perfectly, and a delicious sauce base, served and overflowing in a lightly toasted sourdough bowl. Her fish portion was a little small... but it tasted good. The wine menu was a little too pricey, but the selection, especially of local wines, was very good."

"Jake's has a lot of memories for our family. We took my mother, who is 89, to dinner. She loved it. So did my husband and I. It is definitely the place for seafood and fish. "We were there for our anniversary and my birthday. Our server (didn't get his name unfortuately) was just wonderful, very patient and attentive with a great sense of humor. When we go back we'll try to get his section. Our daughter always has the crab tortellini. I had a delicious rockfish with crab and a garlic sauce. My husband's mussels were very large, plentiful and fresh. Even though it's a noisy restaurant, the booths are pretty good at lowering the volume. Drinks were excellent."

"Not up to par for Jakes Crawfish. It was only a fair experience. I was on a first date and she treated me. That was really special. We both ordered the filet mignon and twin lobster tail. $49.95 per meal. We both ordered the steak medium and both got the steak totally rare. The twin lobster tail was lukewarm. The waitress, while polite, was only average. We had drinks and desert, therefore a big tab. That added to the disappointment to not get top notch service/food I have had at Jakes before. This makes me reconsider Jakes. To be clear, we are not mad, just disappointed."

"Overall experience was good. There was 5 of us and we went to enjoy the happy hour and cocktails. I made an online reservation and noted in the special commnents box what we were coming for. Despite having my phone number and email, for several hours, the restaurant never got in touch with me to let me know they didn't do reservations for happy hour. Our group spent 30 min crammed in a corner waiting and when we did get a table, it was a table for 2. Seating was very tight, but the food was good and the service was great. I just wouldn't bother making an online reservation, if you have any special comments or requests; they won't pay them any attention, in fact they didn't even see them until I pointed out I had written them."

"When I was a child growing up in Eastern Oregon, we would eat at Jake's when we went to the "BIG CITY." It has a fond place in my heart and it never disappoints. We were celebrating my birthday with my brother and sister-in-law so it was all the more enjoyable. The food was wonderful. My husband is not a vegetable eater (except corn) and when we mentioned that to the server - guess what - he got corn instead of other veggies that he would not eat. It was great."

"I have been dining at Jake's for a good 40 years, since I was a kid. I do believe it has hit an all time low. The hostess was rude, she stuffed our party of 5 into a booth barely large enough for 4, all the while having the audacity to act arrogant. The waitress was passive-aggressive, and overly patronizing while in between visits, our drinks stood empty as did the bread basket. The food was marginal at best, such a disapointment since I remember how great Jake's has been in the past. I'm not sure I will try Jake's again for quite a while, especially since everyone in my family has no desire to return...very sad."

"Well, we have been driving from Seattle to have dinner with family there for many years during the holidays. In this economy I find it hard to pay such high prices for rather fair dishes. Menu has become less appealing over the years and so I gave it a median review.

Appetizers are getting so expensive and very high priced pasta dishes make this above most folks budgets even for special ocassions. After 15 years we are finally moving on next year to another location and keep the tradition change the place basically.

Our waiter was very efficient, coffee was excellent, tables were ready on time and we were not rushed in any way."

"We had a wonderful time. Dinner was everything we expected, after all it's Jake's! Classy and classic. Our cocktails were tasty and the calamari was very tender. The scallops and salmon were perfectly cooked. Mom raved about the scampi. One regular desert was enough to share. My husband opted for a small desert and felt it was plenty for one. How smart to have 2 size options for desert! Our food was well timed and the service was very good.

We were seated nearer the door than I have ever been. It's a little noisier and congested with the people waiting to be seated but not enough to make table conversation difficult(be sure to have reservations!) We enjoyed the energy but would ask for a quieter table for a romantic dinner."

"I am going to grade this restaurant based on that it should be more of a fine dining experience. The food quality and presentation are excellent. The service was poor. The drinks sat empty for the majority of lunch. Ice Tea and water refills I mean. When the food came I expected them to know where each entree goes. They instead they auctioned them off. Ie who has the salmon. I know this is picky, but in this caliber of restaurant i expect to get more than I would at applebees. The food is worth it , but if you need to impress a client or new date I would try somewhere else."

"The restaurant was very crowded, but we had a reservation & arrived right at the reservation time. Took about 5 minutes to get us settled. For as busy as they were, this was amazing!! The waiter (Keith) promptly took out drink / appetizer / dinner orders and was more than friendly. Food was excellent, arrived on a timely manner... couldn't have been better. Keith is a real asset to the business, & plays well with his customers. Fun to have for a waiter.

"We visit Portland about once a year, and always dine at Jake's Famous Crawfish. It reminds me of Joe Muer's in Detroit, another top seafood restaurant, where my family dined regularly when I was growing up. I only wish we lived closer to Portland, or that there were a comparable restaurant in Vancouver, BC."

"The booth selected was perfect, the waiter was witty and on top of things, providing great service a laugh or two along the way. The food was well prepared and nicely presented. I had the grilled sturgeon and she had the sole. Both were excellent. The oysters on the half shell were superb as an appetizer. All in all, a memorable occasion.

"On our recent visit to Portland we had to change the number of diners and the time of our reservation late in the afternoon. Jakes was most accommodating. Once at our table our very patient waitress answered all our questions about the menu and was very cordial about our sharing with our nine year old granddaughter. The preparation of the food was perfection itself and the drinks were fresh and high quality. The wine list certainly suited our taste and budget. Jakes Crawfish ranks up at the top of the great seafood restaurants at which we have dined. Although Jakes is now part of a chain of restaurants it has kept it's individual identity. A wonderful dining experience."

"While visiting Portland, our family enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at Jake's, and had an exceptional dinner complimented by the most courteous service I have experienced. The extensive list of fresh seafood selections made picking an entree challenging, but worth the debate. My wife and I ohh'ed and ahh'ed while sharing the Alaskan Salmon stuffed w/ Dungeoness crab,Bay shrimp and Brie and pan seared scallops while the children made short work of the traditional Thankgiving dinner. "Dining at Jake's is a treat! I look forward to the special occasions that require a lunch or dinner there.
However, I wish that the service had been better this time. Our waiter, who shall remain nameless, because I can't remember his name, was short and made us feel unwelcome and rushed. There were two times that he had come over to say what sounded rehearsed, and then before I was given a chance to elaborate to him about something, he walked away while I was in mid sentence. I felt snubbed. All of the food was AMAZING, as usual. However, my horseradish crusted Salmon was a bit spongy, and might have been slightly undercooked.
The ladies at the front desk were so nice, and helpful!"

"As always the food and atmosphere were great. The waitress seemed less than cordial and not very interested in taking care of us. Maybe it was just a bad day for her. Not a show stopper however.

I asked if a dessert could be delivered to out hotel room later that evening. The waitress wasn't sure and wasn't interested in finding out until I pushed the issue a little. She eventually came back with an answer, but I felt like the request was an imposition on her. Tips I believe are based on service and doing the little extras that a customer requests."

"Fantastic happy hour! Alcohol was pricey, but the happy hour food was extremely well-priced and tasty. Dinner in the main restaurant was overpriced and mediocre. Make happy hour your dinner by sampling all sorts of foods with your drink. Happy hour experience highly recommended: the ambiance, the food, the value."

"This is one of our favorite restaurants and we're repeat customers. The seafood is excellent as is the customer service. It is busy and loud, so go in with your eyes wide open. Great for dinner. "Wow! The freshest oysters & most excellent seafood I have had in a long time. It was fabulous. All four entrees were giving thumbs up, but the crab leg saute won for overall best in show. The service was perfect except for one charge on the bill that was incorrect. We will return (again & again). Our new favorite restaurant."

"Online reservation system worked very well. Waitress was polite, helpful, very professional and efficient. Food was delivered quickly to the table, which seems to be a common theme in Portland, but we weren't felt that we were being rushed. Food was cooked perfectly. We both enjoyed it very much. We were there on a Monday evening and the restaurant was packed. It can be noisy in some sections of the restaurant especially near the bar. Seems to be a local favourite. I wouldn't bring small children to this restaurant; although the waitress mentioned that the kitchen is willing to alter some dishes to accommodate a fussy child."

"Disappointing. Server clearly wishing she were somewhere else, while tables near us were served by an attentive and engaged server.
Food: my daughter had their famous Petrale soul, very oily/greasy

I had a louis salad, basic at best.

Crab bisque good but salty; clam chowder way too thick, like thick stew rather than a chowder.

Overall, a disappoitment for a special night out whie visiting my daughter in Portland."
