"Jake's is a favorite for showing out of town guests the best of Portland's traditional restaurants where the menu is excellent, the service is great and the location is a reminder of the rich history of the Pacific Northwest. Fun and fine dining in one place...is Jake's!
We had a wonderful dinner. The Sashimi appetizer was one of the best anywhere in the world. Crab cakes were out of this world. I liked the casual service that was available but not intrusive and never made us feel like our lingering over dinner and chatting was taking up a table you wanted to turn. Friendly, welcoming, relaxed, excellent!
We had a wonderful time and I will definitely return with family and friends."

"We love Jake's rib-eye steak that you get at dinner time. Had steak and eggs for mother's day breakfast. We were surprised and disappointed. It was a good sirloin steak I guess but expected more from there. What would be wrong with at least a choice of steak from Jake's at breakfast? We built the place up to be smacked down with a sirloin that any restaurant would serve. Today I would still recommend Jake's for a great steak at dinner (pricey, but worth it). I wouldn't recommend for breakfast, at least not for a steak and eggs breakfast.
I am hopeful that Jake's may add to the breakfast menu:)"

"I've been to this restaurant for breakfast and dinner quite a few times and I can honestly say there is nothing to complain about. Great service (even on a busy mothers day brunch), amazing food, and relaxing/ engaging environment. This is the perfect place for a date night, special occasion, or Sunday morning brunch with the family. Great Mimosas too!"

"I highly recommend the horseradish-crusted halibut - it was very good. I don't recommend the cocktails, however. We ordered three different cocktails and all were very weak and unimpressive. Neither would I recommend the waitress who (theoretically) waited on us. She was hard to flag down all evening and her personality was as watered-down as our drinks.
I have had slightly better experiences here in the past, but I've never been able to rate my evening at Jake's as "outstanding"."

"This visit was a bit disappointing for us. We had made reservations for 4 but they seated us at a table set for 2 with no menus. It took quite awhile to get the other two place setting and menus. Jake's Grill wasn't up to their normal level of service this time but we will be back."

"Bob was a great waiter and you could tell that he really loves what he does. He did not make us feel rushed, and as I heard him interact with the other tables around us, he made personal notes, appropriately, with customers, making it a personalized lunch. The food was very good, although, I would have liked to know that they put green peppers in their country potatoes. It was not listed anywhere, and I don't like peppers at all.
I would return to Jake's. We came by streetcar, which dropped us off about a block away, and picked us up just across the street.
My only complaint was that it was a bit breezy in there with the fans going, but I also did not mention this, or ask them to turn them down. So no fault of theirs."

"The food was excellent....a lot of different choices. Our group ordered just about the entire range of the menu; a pasta dish, seafood dishes, a pork dish and a steak. Everyone loved what they ordered. There was a great wine list with a good range of price points. I didn't leave room for desert which I quickly regretted after seeing what the rest of the group ordered. Service was good, our waiter was helpful with food choices but not super attentive to things like empty wine glasses (I might have had a glass or two more with my meal) but overall very nice. Good spot for a small group!"

"I enjoyed Jakes - have dined there before. I had a light dinner, an appetizer and a salad. The beet salad was outstanding but the crab cocktail was expensive and although the quality of crab was good, the quantity was very small for the price. I won't order that again but I will definitely dine at Jake's again. I also had breakfast there the next day (staying at the Governor) and service and food was fantastic (Yamhill scramble - yummy!)
The dinner saving grace was the excellent host team that took pity on me eating alone and seated me in a small window table - nice!"

"While out service was outstanding both my wife's and my dinners were less then expected. Both of us ordered steaks medium rare and both were over cooked my wife's was closer to well while mine was medium. After the issue was brought to our waiters attention he quickly ordered another steak which was over cooked as well. Even though the manager took her steak off our bill which was very nice but for a restaurant in Portland Oregon with average steak entree of 40.00 plus salads and side dishes I expect much better the 3 burnt steaks. Shouldn't have happened in the first place let alone second and third. Service was great ! Kitchen needs help."

"Our server was awesome! She checked in on us making sure we had everything (server job duties) but the what made her great was she had a great personality. Other than doing her just her job, she dialogued with us, we all laughed and when she said, "If you need anything, just holla." we loved her. The service I received was great and as we all know it depends on who you have to make your experience a great one.
As, for the food, we had the crab and shrimp cake, oysters on the half shell, calamari, we had the steaks and salmon. The steaks were cooked to order and cooked perfectly to what the "rare, medium, well-done" standard (we know each place has its own definitions), they were tender and juicy. Overall Great Experience."

"I took a young business associate to lunch and requested a table where we could discuss matters privately. We had an excellent table, very private and quiet. And for Jake's Grill that is exceptional because they are always busy. The food was superior and tasty. Service was perfect. One of the best dining experiences in a long time. I have often had dinner at Jake's but this lunch was a treat. I will do lunch there more often."

"I had asked for a quiet table good for conversation and that is exactly what we got, a roomy booth with a great street view, a much appreciated touch. The food and service were good and our out of town guests were pleased. Even though crab Louis was not on the menu, the waiter and chef produced them for two of us. The hangtown fry was excellent. All in all,we had an extremely pleasant experience and I would recommend Sunday at Jake's Grill to anyone."

"My girlfriend and I decided to go to Jakes because we heard that it was the best place in town to get good seafood. We knew that they were on the more spendy end as far as restaurants go so we expected to get what we paid for. We were sadly mistaken. Problems: The food wasn't hot, the seafood lacked in good flavor (Costco has better fish than Jakes), the waitress was short with us, rude and said no when we asked for a salad in place of our sides. I would only recommend this place if you want to go get a drink, not eat food and don't want to be bothered by a sever. Would not reccomend!"

"Steak was great! Unfortunately, the pot roast was so dry that it had to be sent back. Our table was next to the kitchen, but the restaurant has taken care to make sure that was not an issue. The server was very good and fun too. Hopefully the pot roast was an anomaly. Overall, it was a good experience."

"I had been in the restaurant before for dinner and the service had been very good. This was my first time there for lunch. The service was very slow: the food cold, the drinks arrived in the middle of the meal, and the bread was brought by the time we'd finished eating. My guests were unhappy. I was disappointed."

"Ultimately the flatiron steak, roasted potatoes, and onion rings were fresh and tasty. That was after I sent the plate back to the kitchen and they started over. The first delivery included a steak cooked "rare" (I had asked for "medium"), and dried-out potatoes and onion rings that seemed to have sat under a warming lamp for too long. The manager had come by asking for feedback, and was asked to take the food back. Graciously, they did, and made good on the meal. My wife was done with her meal before I started into mine.
Service was spotty. The wait staff looked stretched. It being Valentine's Day may have had something to do with it."

"The restaurant was great but the food was not so great. I had the chicken stuffed with lobster. The chicken was dry and it sat in a sauce with to much other stuff around it. It was over plated. We had the prawns for appetizer which were to die for. Very good. Over all, I don't think I would eat here again if I was paying the bill. Over priced for not a good meal. I guess you could say I was disappointed be cause it was nothing compared to Jakes Crawfish and it was Valentines."

jakes can be a romantic place or a party place. That night at a quiet table for two it was romantic.
Good food, good wine, good service. After dinner,thanks to jakes great location, I had a pedal cab waiting and we enjoyed a lovely open air tour of our beautiful city.
My wife, who usually does not like going downtown,later in the week remarked how nice it was at jakes and how we should go there more often."

"Extremely disappointing experience this time - have been to JG many times-always have had wonderful dining experience... not this time. First... menu incredibly limited compared to other visits... 4 of us arrived at 2pm on Sunday w/reservations-were given menu which was 1/2 breakfast & 1/2 lunch w/breakfast concluded at 1:30 which, in essence, left us with 1/2 a menu. Couldn't order haystack onions which we have had on EVERY other occasion... supposedly, our waiter even asked and was denied... then when we did order lunch, our waiter came back telling us that they were out of two of our choices... so ordered something else. Asked for bread... two of us ordered the salmon entree rather than a sandwich... never got the bread... and so on."

"The food was good, but our experience was ruined with unacceptable service. The server was visably flustered and continued to forget to bring items requested to us and the tables around us. I said something to the management and was told the servers are learning a new system and are having issues with it so for a month or so the experience won't be what is was. I wish someone would have told us this prior to our reservation as I would have chosen to go elsewhere. As a former server/bar tender I am extremely understanding and patient. This was beyond that. The server had four tables. He should have had one with a more experienced person shadowing him. Wasn't a pleasant evening."

"Went to Jake's with my girlfriend for a belated Valentines Day dinner. We had reservations for 7:30 we were seated around 7:45. The restaurant has a very nice feel and look. Our waiter was attentive and provided excellent service. However the food was not great in my opinion the food was over priced and not high quality."

"We are big fans of Jake's Crawfish, and Jake's Grill. However, this most recent experience was not up to the standards we typically experience. The biggest issue was how slow the service was. Our waiter was fantastic, but it took forever to get started. We were there for 20 minutes before there was even water on the table, 35 before anyone in our party actually had a drink. After finally ordering, salads and entres came within reasonable time, but it was frustrating starting out. Maybe short staffed that night? Food was fantastic as usual."

"I came with a group of friends before a show at the Schnitzer. Overall, the food and beverages were great. But one friend and I ordered steaks and even though the preparation was good we thought the quality of the meat was subpar, e.g. there were tough spots of gristle in it. Our server got busy and we had to scramble at the last minute to make it to the show on time."
