Wine list is excellent, food selection is inventive, food is sourced locally and is well prepared, and the service staff is attentive (not obtrusive), well trained, and superb. "Cons: They could not seat us when we arrived on time with a confirmed reservation and they asked if we would wait. We waited 30 minutes and they still could not seat us, again no explanation. I took a look around and there were plenty of tables available, even window tables. We just wanted to eat and told them to seat us at one of the tables in the bar area. We finished up around 11pm. During that time maybe 20 people exited the restaurant - we were right at the door. The food was just average for a restaurant with such an alleged reputation, but I guess this is just a hotel restaurant and they generally aren't that great. After a $600.00 tab, we left full, but disappointed. No comp(s) offered.

"Food was good and reasonably priced. Reservation was for a Saturday - valet parking was full and only available parking was a good 5 mins walk across loose stones and a steep wooden set of stairs. Fortunately I dropped my wife off at the entrance as in heels an a long dress, the walk would have been very difficult. Surprisingly the restaurant was quiet and we got a window seat with a view over the golf course and mountains. Service was very good - out server knew the menu as well as providing knowledge of the area. The food was good - we had appetizers and entree's, bu the dessert menu was heavy on chocolate, so we skipped that. Pricing for a hotel restaurant was reasonable as was the bottle of wine we had."

"We went for an anniversary dinner and it was a great place for that. The view is great if you can get by a window, service was very attentive, and the food was very good, not outstanding. The waitstaff were very obliging, changing a wine out that my wife didn't like. We had the striped bass and lamb, and both were prepared well with good accompaniments. The chocolate almond torte is recommended for dessert."

We were guests at GPI and Horizons was a delightful haven - a quiet respite amidst a full hotel with attentive and congenial wait staff throughout our meal, creative menu choices fit for foodies using local foods, and great recommendations by Cherrie on menu options. "Exceptional food, service and location. David was helpfull, friendly and personable but not intrusive. My wife and I were there for our anniversary and we both agreed it was one of the top five dining experiences we've had. Horizons is a AAA 4 diamond restaurant and lives up to its reputation. Of course the view from the windows is spectacular and only enhances the experience. I had the filet mignon and my wife had the black grouper both of which were perfectly prepared. The appetizers, Vidalia onion soup with crab for me and the crab cake for my wife were delicious. Go there if you can."

It was distressing to see a man dining there at night in shorts and wearing a baseball cap - very inappropriate. Talked to the manager who could have cared less. "The entire property looks worn. Horizons, said to be more upscale, was disappointing. Half the restaurant is covered in carpet while the other half is tile flooring. I'm not sure why we were seated in the tiled area. Maybe because we were not guests of the hotel. Give them credit though, professional photography on their website did make it look inviting. But with that said, we had an exceptional waitperson who made up for our disappointmenting evening."

"I picked Horizon's restaurant at the Grove Park Inn for a special Easter dinner - forget the jelly beans and chocolate bunnies. I expected a delicious meal in a refined setting and that is exactly what we got. Everything was perfect. You'll pay for it, but you will enjoy it. We ordered the chef's special and an entree of scallops. The special has six dishes. The first four are small, but wonderfully tasty, the fifth is a main course, and the sixth is desert. The end result is a filling dining experience with an array of tastes without feeling stuffed. We each had a "full pour" of wine (6 oz)of the sauvignon blanc and it was a perfect complement to the meal. The special was $75, scallops $28, wine $13 a glass. Service was excellent."

"The 3 star review I give this restaurant should be more like a 3 and 1/2 stars. The food was pretty good, but I've had better at similar-caliber restaurants. The dessert was definitely my favorite part of the meal (Sweet potato bread pudding... great!) I'd say it's worth a try, for sure."

"We had eaten here before the new owner and remodel of the restaurant. The modernization is nice but we were seated in the middle of the floor when there were better tables available. The menu was a little limited and when I asked the server for the scallops without the bacon her response was 'well, we are in the south'. They did take it off but after much discussion. BTW - the scallops were in the 'fish' column and I don't think bacon is a "fish" item.
The wine menu is ridiculous. There was one bottle you could get in Atlanta for $100 and they were charging $500.00. For most bottles the upcharge was at least 3 times the cost of the bottle. We opted to order by the glass and after one glass were never asked if we wanted another."

"The staff accommodated our request for a seat in the middle of restaurant. However, the left arm on the chair I was seated in was broken - wiggly. The wait staff was cheerful, but slow. It took a long time for our first drink order to arrive and the place as not crowded at 7pm. The food was so-so. The strongest flavor in the potato soup was the Theros oil, which should have been an accent. In the Benton Shrimp appetizer, I thought the shrimp were overcooked, as they were on the chewy side. 6, not 4 shrimp, strikes me as an appropriate serving size, particularly at the price. More cheese should have been on the plate as well to balance out the yummy ham. The Day Boat Catch was pretty good. The broth was"

"A wonderful restaurant. The chef's tasting menu was exquisite and wonderfully local. Be sure to check the current Chef de Cusine, as the one there in March of 2013 is rumored to be leaving. This means the offerings will and should change to reflect the personality and passion of the new Chef. Hopefully, the food and service will maintain their elegant and delicious nature."

"Excellent dinner with our good friends. The service is excellent. The menu isn't huge, but has a very nice selection. All the food we ordered was well prepared, presented, and very tasty! The extensive (huge) wine list was deciphered with very good advice from the sommelier. You will pay for it though...all the wines averaged 3-4 times the available retail cost, which is at or above the normal fine dining up charge."

"It would be tough to beat the view from this restaurant, especially at dinner time with the sun setting behind the panorama of the Appalachian mountains. The reason to eat at such a restaurant is for the subtle delicacies and flavors the chef takes great effort to create in the food and Horizons delivered on that count. The service was flawless and the ambience quiet and relaxing. My one criticism, as with many similar restaurants, is that while I enjoy and appreciate the gourmet experience, I also need to be fed. I'm not sure I would have been, adequately, without the continuous supply of bread."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Horizons. My wife and I both had the chef's 6-course offering. The food and service were both outstanding. My only complaint was how close our table was to the neighboring table. I felt like I was eavesdropping on their conversation. Other than that, I cannot find fault. "The service was slow, not so much between courses as the initial offer of a drink after we were seated. And after finally ordering drinks, they took a very long time to come. The cocktail I ordered, however ("Ritual 75") was excellent. Wines by the glass were available in "half" or "full" pours and I found the half pour to be barely more than a taste, at the price of a full glass of wine most places."

"Our experience was first class all the way. I brought a bottle of wine from my private cellar and the waitress handled it flawlessly even though it was several years old (corkage fee was $25, not cheap but this is a high-end restaurant after all). We ordered the sampling dinner and were well pleased. It is an expensive restaurant but you do get what you pay for - fine food and fine service."

"My girlfriend and I went here for a late Valentine's day dinner, and we were not disappointed. The food was great, the service was excellent (although our server was, perhaps, a bit too familiar), and the evening was a great success. The only less successful note to the evening was that the ambience was not as intimate as we might have liked. Seating was a bit too 'open,'and the design was a bit too functional. However, overall, that was a very minor point. Highly recommended."
